Man stole SUV in Butler, led police on chase to Shaler before crashing into creek, police say
The Butler City Police said on Wednesday, around 12:22 p.m., their department was called after someone's 2012 Ford Escape was stolen from the Sunoco parking lot on East Jefferson Street.
Police said that Richard Russell, 27, entered the SUV after the owner went inside to purchase something and drove out of Butler City onto Route 8.
Butler County 911 then radioed out the stolen vehicle information to nearby police departments.
Police said Russell then led multiple departments from Allegheny County on a pursuit that went through several communities before crashing over an embankment and into a creek in Shaler.
Russell was removed from the SUV by medics and taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Butler police said Russell also had an active warrant for violating his parole requirements.
The stolen vehicle was heavily damaged, and some property was damaged along the pursuit route.
The Butler City Police Department is handling the investigation and said Russell will be charged with theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding and multiple charges for criminal mischief.

A deranged New Mexico teenager grinned in his mugshot after he was arrested last week for allegedly killing his Uber driver 'to let some steam off' after a stressful day, according to a criminal complaint. Sheliky Sanchez, 18, was cuffed at his girlfriend's home in Albuquerque early Thursday morning and charged with murder, armed robbery and tampering with evidence. Metropolitan Detention Center The night before, Sanchez had asked his unwitting girlfriend to order him an Uber around 1 a.m. — telling her 'his friend has a car for him and he is going to go get it,' according to a complaint obtained by the Albuquerque Journal. When the Uber suddenly stopped before the ride was completed, the company sent Sanchez's girlfriend an automated call to make sure everything was alright, she told police. She reached out to Sanchez, who insisted he was fine. Around 3 a.m., Uber driver Joseph Andrus was found dead after apparently being shot execution-style on the side of the road. His car, a black Ford Escape, was nowhere in sight. Sanchez allegedly stole the Ford after the murder and drove the car to his girlfriend's house, where it was found by authorities in the morning. When interviewed by police, Sanchez insisted that he had slept through the whole night. He added that he hadn't taken an Uber anywhere and was driven around by his friends, according to the complaint. Sanchez claimed to police that he used cash to buy Andrus' car from someone else and had no knowledge it belonged to the slain driver, according to the complaint. As police poked holes in his flimsy alibi, Sanchez allegedly eventually admitted to shooting Sanchez to 'let off some steam' in a premeditated plan to 'take [his stress] out on anybody he could find,' according to the complaint. Sanchez allegedly told police he parsed through multiple different rideshare apps before deciding on his victim. Sanchez presented a flimsy alibi that authorities quickly tore through until they pried a confession out of him. REUTERS He added that he chose a random drop-off location and ordered Andrus to exit the vehicle upon arrival before allegedly shooting him several times and watching as he bled out on the ground. 'He seemed like a good guy. I don't really go for good people,' Sanchez told police, adding that Andrus was 'really cool and talked to him the entire drive.' Sanchez added that he 'felt bad for [Andrus] a little bit, but just getting that satisfaction out of the way. It's like a relief. Like taking an in and out breath.' The teen is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County, New Mexico.

Suspect allegedly tried to attack officer with hammer: I-Team
HUDSON, Ohio (WJW) – An officer-involved shooting shut down a portion of State Route 91 in Hudson for several hours on Thursday after police said a man with no shoes 'aggressively' confronted an officer while brandishing a hammer. According to a media release, shortly after 4 a.m., Hudson Police received a call about a man walking in the roadway with no shoes, yelling at motorists in the area of State Route 91 andStoney Hill Drive. Alleged nurse impersonator treated 4.4K patients Police responded to the scene and said that when the suspect confronted the officer with the hammer, the officer discharged their weapon in response. In addition, the owner of a nearby Sunoco tells the FOX 8 I-Team that the suspect tried to break into the gas station and busted the door. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation and said no officers were injured. The suspect was transported to Akron City Hospital for emergency treatment, said police. Detroit police search for suspect accused of damaging woman's car at gas station
The Detroit Police Department is searching for an individual accused of damaging a woman's car on Wednesday at a gas station. The incident happened at about 3:26 p.m., Aug. 6, in the 19300 block of W. Seven Mile Road. Police say the suspect allegedly broke the rear wiper arm off the 55-year-old woman's 2025 Ford Escape. Police say the individual then got in a black sedan with a male driver and left the gas station. Police say the gas station is part of the city's Project Green Light, meaning there are cameras installed at the location that connect to DPD's headquarters. Police released photos of the individual and the suspect vehicle. Detroit police did not release any additional information on the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call DPD's eighth precinct at 313-596-5840 or Crime Stoppers at 800-Speak Up.
