Fairphone 6 aces repairability test

The Fairphone 6 launched last month with an expanded modular design, a better chipset, and a larger battery compared to its predecessor. This is still no flagship Android smartphone, but its key selling point isn't performance or battery life, it's repairability.
Thus, you might be interested to find out what the folks over at iFixit have to say about it - after all, they've been championing people's right to self-repair their devices for years, and Fairphone itself is also all about giving people that option. It's all good news for the Fairphone 6, as iFixit has found it to be the most repairable handset yet.
So, it was awarded a perfect 10 out of 10 repairability score, something that mainstream smartphone brands can only dream of, but have never achieved. Fairphone has already made parts and repair manuals available for the Fairphone 6, which it promises will get at least seven major Android updates and at least eight years of security patches. That's important because a phone being easy to repair is kind of pointless if its software isn't supported past a year or two.
The entire phone uses only T5 Torx screws, so one screwdriver is enough to get to any component. Speaking of which, obviously all of the various bits and pieces are very easy to replace - this includes the battery, cameras and the screen as well as the USB port. There's no glue anywhere inside, which makes repairs a breeze but means it can only be IP55 rated for dust and water resistance. Fairphone 6 256GB 8GB RAM $ 870.00

Samsung Galaxy A17 4G and A17 5G listed in Europe, here are the prices

Vlad, 01 August 2025 Samsung's upcoming Galaxy A17 has been spotted in some certifications recently, and then it was outed in leaked renders. Today, it's gone one step further, being listed by a European retailer. The listings don't give us any more images, but do reveal the pricing for both the 4G and 5G models, as well as (at least some of) their colorways. The Galaxy A17 4G costs €289.90 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and will be offered in black, gray, and light blue. There should be lower-end options too, with less RAM and storage, by the way. The Galaxy A17 5G is listed at €319.90 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and this one comes in black, blue, and gray. Clearly these are not exhaustive listings though (once again, keep in mind that there will most likely be other RAM/storage combos on offer as well), so we assume more colors could also be launched. According to past rumors and leaks, the Galaxy A17 5G will be powered by Samsung's Exynos 1380 SoC, and will have a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 25W wired charging. It will run Android 15 when it launches, with One UI 7 on top. Its screen could be a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution, while for cameras expect a 50 MP main with OIS, a 5 MP ultrawide, and a 2 MP macro. The Galaxy A17 4G will be powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC. It too will run Android 15. Source (in Italian) | Via

Epic Games' latest court win against Google will transform the Play Store forever

The ongoing Epic Games vs Google legal battle is nearing its end and the Fortnite maker is emerging as the winner. Following its court wins from 2023 and 2024, Epic has now amassed its latest victory as the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied Google's appeal to the previous rulings. This means Google will now be forced to allow third-party app stores to be publicly visible within the Play Store and operate freely with full access to its app catalog over the next three years. App developers can also set up and use alternative billing systems for apps and subscriptions, bypassing Google's own payment system and its 30% app tax. In addition, developers will be able to freely link users to download options outside of the Play Store. Google is also prohibited from offering device makers or carriers any form of money or perks to deter them from pre-installing third-party app stores on devices. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed that the Epic Games Store for Android is coming to Google Play as soon as possible. Google's regulatory affairs chief, Lee-Anne Mulholland, issued a statement following the court decision, claiming it would 'significantly harm user safety' and 'undermine the innovations that make Android competitive'. Google is expected to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court but it will still have to begin implementing the new changes. Source (PDF)
