Top firms bid for Oman's Musandam Airport construction works
Around 20 companies, including some prominent names in Oman's infrastructure development, submitted their bids before the deadline to do so on July 28. The final design of the proposed airport has been completed. The tender was floated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
As per earlier reports, Musandam Airport is expected to be ready in 2028, and the project assumes significance due to operational challenges facing the current Khasab Airport, especially the possibility of operating services for 24 hours.
The project will be divided into phases. The first stage will include a 45-metre-wide runway. A passenger building (to handle 250,000 passengers annually) will be constructed in addition to an air traffic control tower, runway (2,520 metres long and 45 metres wide), taxiways, a fire station, equipment repair shops, a marine rescue station, and parking lots for aircraft.
There will be a new road 7-km leading to the airport. In the second phase, the runway will be expanded to 3,300 metres, capable of Airbus 330s, 350s, and Boeing 787s and 777s, in addition to increasing the number of taxiways and parking lots for aircraft, an aircraft isolation yard, and the terminal building (if required).
It may be noted that CAA has plans for specialised companies for site selection studies, master plans, design, and supervision for the proposed development of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, Masirah, and Suhar airports.

Oman issues consultancy tender for Duqm fisheries and food industrial zone expansion
Oman's Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has issued a consultancy tender for the Oman Fisheries & Food Industrial Zone at the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD). The contract covers technical review and detailed design of roads and utilities for the zone's master plan. 'Bids must be submitted by 28 August 2025, with an award anticipated in November 2025,' a source aware of the details said, adding that the project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2027. Pre-qualified bidders include Almanarah Engineering Consultancy, Haskoning International Engineering Consultancy, ISAG Consulting Engineers, Surbana Consultants (Dubai branch), Ibrahim Jaidah Architects and Engineers (IJAE), Khatib & Alami, and National Engineering Office. In November 2024, the state-owned Oman News Agency said in a report detailed master plan for the first phase of the expansion of the Fish and Food Industries Zone has been finalised, and work is underway to award contracts for internal roads and infrastructure development. Renewables make up 11.5% of Oman's electricity production
The share of renewable energy in electricity production in Oman has risen to 11.5 per cent as of last May, as part of the national strategy to increase renewable energy's contribution to power generation to 30 per cent by 2030 and 60 per cent by 2040. The Directorate General of Renewable Energy and Hydrogen at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals stated that Oman has witnessed significant growth in renewable energy adoption in recent years, marked by the launch of several major solar and wind energy projects. These include the Dhofar 1 Wind Farm, the Ibri 2 Solar Plant, and the Manah 1 and Manah 2 Solar Plants, all of which support national energy transition plans and boost renewable energy's role in electricity production. The Directorate added that key renewable energy projects slated for contract awards this year include the 500 MW Ibri 3 Solar Plant, the 100 MW Jalan Bani Bu Ali Wind Farm, and the 120 MW Dhofar 2 Wind Farm. Additionally, several upcoming projects are set for implementation, including the 90 MW Sadah Wind Farm, the 300–400 MW Mahout 1 and Mahout 2 Wind Farms, the 280 MW Al Kamil Solar Plant, and a 220 MW solar energy project..
