Former Saints first-round draft pick Andrus Peat attempting NFL comeback with Steelers
Former New Orleans Saints Pro Bowl offensive lineman Andrus Peat has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Head coach Mike Tomlin announced the move on Thursday morning, per PennLive's Nick Farabaugh. Peat, 31, is expected to fortify a thin and questionable offensive line tasked with protecting veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The Saints selected Peat with the 13th overall choice in Round 1 of the 2015 NFL draft. Despite having played left tackle at Stanford, Peat started just eight games at tackle as a rookie, and he struggled with consistency over his first few years on both the left and right sides. When the Saints moved him inside to guard, Peat responded with three straight seasons as a Pro Bowl alternate from 2018 to 2020.
Peat was moved back to left tackle during the 2023 season when it became clear Trevor Penning couldn't hold it down, and did well over 12 starts. During a nine-year career with New Orleans, Peat appeared in 111 regular season games with 102 starts. Injuries were a frequent problem for him.
Andrus Peat was with the Las Vegas Raiders last season. He appeared in 15 games but made only one start, and played a career-low 6% of the team's offensive snaps. Peat will now have an opportunity to resurrect his career in Pittsburgh and could even compete for a starting role, most likely at guard, while bringing some versatility to play tackle or inside.

New York Giants beat Bills, 34-25: Grading every big-name rookie's performance
Abdul Carter in his preseason debut:🔷 6 snaps played | 3 pass rush snaps🔷 3 PRESSURESThis kid is going to be a disruptive force. The New York Giants won their preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park on Saturday, 34-25. There is a lot of optimism as their 2025 rookie class looks like a banner one for the second year in a row. Let's take a look at how they performed on Saturday and grade those performances. LB Abdul Carter Abdul Carter played sparingly in the first half. His official line was one assisted tackle, but he gave Bills Pro Bowl tackle Dion Dawkins all he could handle. Grade: A QB Jaxson Dart One didn't have to look far to find out how Jaxson Dart fared on Saturday. Sources around the league discussed his success all over social media. He looked confident and capable. There's no question whether he can handle the job as a rookie. QB controversy here we come. The line: 12-of-19 passing for 154 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions. Three rushes, 24 yards. .@Giants @JaxsonDart had himself a fine debut. He saw a lot , reacted well; made smart decisions; and has NFL talent. Excited to see more. #BaldysBreakdowns Grade: A DT Darius Alexander Darius Alexander got to see some action on Saturday but did not make the scoresheet. He was relatively quiet, and the Giants' defensive line was once again not very impactful with Dexter Lawrence out of the lineup. Alexander does not look like the player the Giants' front office advertised when they drafted him, but it's early. In fairness, it looks as if he faced double-teams on many snaps. Grade: C OL Marcus Mbow Marcus Mbow, however, does look like the player the Giants thought they were getting. He is a battler who played both tackle positions in this game, and you didn't hear a peep out of anyone who tried to get past him. Mbow looks like he could be an answer at tackle for the Giants. He's nasty. Marcus Mbow (#71) 👀👀 Grade: A+ TE Thomas Fidone Thomas Fidone's talent has never been in question. He was the top tight end coming out of high school a few years back alongside Brock Bowers. Knee injuries ruined his college career. That's all behind him, now, and the Giants are benefiting from taking a flyer on him. He caught all three targets for 22 yards and had a two-point conversion. Grade: B+ Undrafted free agents Wide receiver Jorday Bly had an eight-yard reception. Juice Wells and Dalen Cambre were each targeted twice but did not have a catch. Cornerbacks O'Donnell Fortune and T.J. Moore each had three total tackles, and linebacker Trace Ford recovered a fumble. Grade: B Incomplete Running back Cam Skattebo, cornerback Korie Black, and UDFA wide receiver Beaux Collins did not play.

6 Steelers standouts from preseason win over Jaguars
The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-25 in their preseason opener — with several standout performances on both sides of the ball. From outstanding quarterback play to once-injured players making their triumphant returns, to undrafted rookies forging their own path, here are the six best Steelers performers from the preseason opener vs. the Jaguars. QB Mason Rudolph With Aaron Rodgers a healthy scratch in the preseason opener, Rudolph was tasked with leading the offensive charge on the first two drives of the contest — and he did not disappoint. Completing 9-of-10 passes for 84 yards and an opening-drive touchdown pass, Rudolph looked like his 2023 self against the Jaguars. TE Darnell Washington As Jonnu Smith and Pat Freiermuth were dominating the headlines this offseason, one massive Steelers tight end continued to be overlooked: Darnell Washington. The huge 6'7", 265 lb pass catcher has been a red-zone favorite throughout training camp — and it translated to an impressive 19-yard touchdown on the Steelers' opening drive. WR Scotty Miller Similar to Washington, Miller was also turning heads in training camp — but his preseason performance was outstanding in its own right: four catches for 47 yards. If Miller can continue his success throughout the remaining two preseason games, he may be in line for plenty of work with the first-team offense. WR Ke'Shawn Williams The undrafted rookie exploded onto the scene in his NFL preseason debut, catching two passes for 55 yards — the most of any wideout in the contest. Not to mention his viral touchdown taking social media by storm, one in which he all but mossed a Jaguars defender on his way to six points. If Williams' production continues this sky-high trajectory, he could push to make the 53-man roster this upcoming season. LB Cole Holcomb Almost a year and a half removed from a season-ending knee injury, Holcomb reminded everyone watching the preseason opener why he is still one of the most underrated linebackers in the league. His best play of the night was, without a doubt, breaking up a third-down pass intended for RB Tank Bigsby — where he silenced concerns over his explosiveness and speed following his injury. QB Skylar Thompson There was zero chance we could leave Thompson off the list — as the former Dolphins-turned-Steelers QB gave an absolute preseason master class: completing 20-of-28 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns. If there were any Player of the Week awards given out in the preseason, Thompson would receive it hands down — as he all but carried Pittsburgh to their 31-25 victory. New York Giants report card: How we graded Big Blue in Week 1 preseason win
The New York Giants opened the 2025 preseason with a 34-25 victory over the John Allen-less Bills in Buffalo on Saturday afternoon. How did the individual units perform? Here's a quick report card from Saturday's win. Offense The Giants used all four quarterbacks, and all four led the offense on scoring drives. Rookie Jaxson Dart had a solid debut with 178 total yards (154 passing, 24 rushing) and a pretty touchdown pass to wideout Lil'Jordan Humphery. The 34 points would have been enough to win 16 of the team's 17 games in 2024. The offense committed no turnovers, and the offensive line did not allow a sack. Backup running back Dante Miller had an eye-opening day with 102 yards from scrimmage. Notables who did not play: wide receivers Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, rookie Beaux Collins, and Jalin Hyatt, left tackle Andrew Thomas, guard Evan Neal, and rookie running back Cam Skattebo. Grade: A Defense No Dexter Lawrence, Cor'Dale Flott, or Chauncey Golston. Not a great day, but good enough considering all of the changes, especially in the second and third string depth. The Bills were able to conjure up three long drives, and the Giants missed a boatload of tackles. Deonte Banks was thrust into extended duty with Flott, and several other cornerbacks were inactive. The Giants hope he's headed for a bounce-back year. Linemen D.J. Davidson and Jordon Riley each recorded a sack, and rookie Trace Ford had a fumble recovery. Linebackers K.J. Cloyd and Dyontae Johnson made key stops late in the game on a successful goal-line stand. Grade: B Special teams Veteran kicker Graham Gano belted three 50-plus-yard field goals in the first half, laying to rest any doubt regarding the strength of his leg. After two years marred by leg injuries, Gano appears to have returned to form. He had 10 total points on the afternoon, and Jude McAtamney added four more. The return teams were solid on both sides. Ihmir Smith-Marsette had a 40-yard kickoff return. Grade: A Coaching Brian Daboll looked more like a head coach on the sidelines and less like a coordinator. Mike Kafka, the offensive coordinator, called the plays from the sidelines. Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen was without Dexter Lawrence and managed to piece together a strategy to bend but not break. There are too many new parts for them to get into synch so soon. Rookie linebacker Abdul Carter gave Bills' Pro Bowl tackle Dion Dawkins fits in the short time he played. With so many players on the bubble this summer, the special teams were buzzing as players see that as a path to making the roster. Grade: B+
