Pune: Five minors detained on charges of attempt to murder inmate
Five minors assaulted a 17-year-old boy and attempted to strangulate him with a towel at barrack number 2 of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Industrial Training Centre in Yerawada at around 9.15am on June 10.
Santosh Kisan Kumbhar, 49, of Charholi Phata lodged a complaint at the Yerawada Police Station.
According to the police, minors involved in criminal offences are housed at the centre. The conflict began when the victim refused to clean bathroom. His defiance led to an argument with other inmates and the physical assault. A security guard at the facility noticed the attack and saved the juvenile.
Assistant inspector Vishal Takale said action will be taken as per the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

Man accused in two cases involving ganja arrested under PITNDPS Act
The Kochi City police arrested a man accused of being a habitual offender under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act. The arrested is Ramesh Kusuliya of Raiguda in Odisha. He was an accused in two Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases involving commercial quantities of ganja, registered by the Ernakulam Central and Kalamassery police in October and November last year. The police suspect him to be a key accused in smuggling ganja from Odisha and selling it in various districts in Kerala. The Central police had arrested two Odisha natives with over 24 kilograms of suspected ganja from near the South railway station. An examination of their mobile phone call records and their interrogation led the police to Ramesh who allegedly sold them ganja and helped smuggle it into Kerala. The Kalamassery police arrested him along with another six persons with over 59 kilograms of suspected ganja. The PITNDPS Act was invoked against him on the instructions of District Police Chief (Kochi City) Putta Vimaladitya. Narcotic Cell Assistant Commissioner Abdul Salam prepared a proposal based on a report submitted by Ernakulam Central Inspector Aneesh Joy. Deputy Commissioner Aswathy Gigi submitted a report based on the proposal, and it was approved by the screening committee and the government. He was charged under Section 3(1) (detention to prevent engaging in illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances) of PITNDPS Act. Ramesh, who was undergoing imprisonment at the Ernakulam district jail, was shifted to the Poojappura Central Jail in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.

DGP Rashmi Shukla confers 11 state police officers with Union home minister's medal for excellence in investigations at event in Pune

As many as 162 police officers, from the rank of sub-inspectors to superintendents of police, who showcased superior investigation skills, were selected for the honour from around the country. The 11 state officers comprise one deputy commissioner of police (DCPs), two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), six police inspectors (PIs), and two assistant police inspectors. They had detected serious crime cases, including murder, dacoity, robberies, kidnapping, cheating, and cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. DGP Shukla on Friday conferred these officers with the medals at a programme held at the Centre for Police Research (CPR) in Pune. The state CID chief, Sunil Ramanand, Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Pimpri Chinchwad CP Vinoy Kumar Choubey, and other senior police officers were in attendance. Proper investigation always helps the police to improve their credibility," she said. Of the 11 cases, three of the best detections are from Pune rural police. These include a bank dacoity near Shirur in 2021, in which the police recovered booty worth Rs2.51 crore after arresting the criminals. Another case was from Velhe, in which the police traced and arrested a suspect involved in a Pocso and murder case. The accused was sentenced to death by the court. Over 15.46 kg cannabis seized at Amausi airport, 2 arrrested
Lucknow: Sleuths from the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) seized over 15 kg of cannabis from two passengers who had returned from Bangkok at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on Tuesday night. A total of 15.46 kg of hydroponic cannabis was recovered. Hydroponic cannabis refers to a high-grade variety cultivated without soil, using nutrient-rich water solutions in a controlled indoor environment. Known for its higher potency, it is in high demand in illicit drug markets. The estimated value of the seized contraband is approximately Rs 15.46 crore. "During examination of their checked-in baggage, multiple vacuum-sealed packets wrapped in aluminum foil were recovered. The contents—a greenish, lumpy substance—were subjected to field testing and confirmed to be cannabis," said a DRI official.
