Suspect arrested in San Jose New Year's Eve shooting
Police in San Jose on Wednesday confirmed the recent arrest of a suspect who fired at a rideshare vehicle on New Year's Eve, injuring one of the car's female passengers.
According to
a press release
issued by the San Jose Police Department, at around 11:15 p.m. on December 31, 2024, officers responded to a report of a shooting that happened in the area of Don Alfonso Way and Entrada Cedros near the Blossom Hill Home neighborhood. Arriving officers learned that three adult female victims had entered a rideshare vehicle when an adult male suspect approached their vehicle and produced a firearm.
As the driver began to drive away, the suspect fired on the vehicle, striking one of the female passengers. The driver quickly took the victim to an area hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to authorities. Police said he suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of the responding officers.
SJPD detectives began an investigation and were able to identify the suspect as 19-year-old San Jose resident Erik Enriquez. Detectives also discovered that Enriquez had been arrested shortly after the Dec. 31 shooting for an unrelated crime in San Jose. He was taken into custody while in possession of the firearm that police believe was used in the December 31 incident.
Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Enriquez and a search warrant for his associated residence. On Wednesday, police executed the search warrant at a San Jose residence, where detectives found an un-serialized assault rifle. Enriquez was arrested and subsequently booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on multiple charges including attempted murder, discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle, vandalism, and possession of an assault rifle.

The fifth day of anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles has already resulted in demonstrators being ordered by the LAPD to disperse from the downtown L.A. Federal Building. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass against President Donald Trump and his top advisors whose focus remains on high-profile, high-visibility deportations and immigration stings. The L.A. protests have led to nationwide calls for participation, with many slated to take place in major metropolitan areas in the coming days, including Austin, Seattle and Boston. Protests also spread into Orange County when ICE raids were confirmed in Santa Ana. Gov. Newsom has attempted to stop the Trump Administration from unilaterally mobilizing troops in the city center, an effort that hit a roadblock Tuesday afternoon after a federal judge rejected his emergency motion to stop the deployment. Some of the illegal immigrants detained in the ICE-raids that sparked Los Angeles' riots are convicted criminals with rap sheets for sexual assault, gang activity and even murder — including a Vietnamese national convicted of carrying out a mass shooting at a high school graduation party that shocked Southern California. Cuong Chanh Phan, 49, was among dozens of illegal immigrants ICE arrested in LA over the weekend in a series of raids that prompted demonstrators to flock to the streets and demand their freedom. Phan is a killer, convicted of second degree murder. After he was kicked out of an LA county high school graduation party in 1994, he returned with his gang member cronies and fired semiautomatic rifles into a crowd of 30 people, killing two teens and wounding seven others, according to the Department of Homeland Security. 4 Cuong Chanh Phan, 49 Another criminal arrested in the weekend raids is 55-year-old Rolando Veneracion-Enriquez, from the Philippines, who was sentenced to 37 years in prison for assault with intent to commit rape, and sexual penetration with a foreign object in Pomona, California. Despite the reality of many of the arrested illegal immigrants' crimes, protestors attempted to block ICE officers from carrying out the raids over the weekend, and surrounded a downtown LA detention center where they thought the detainees were being held. President Trump eventually deployed the National Guard to try to quell the protests. Those alarming rap sheets — and more like them — have left many within the DHS and ICE shaking their heads at what they characterized as blindly misguided motives from protestors. Man accused of pulling out a gun on Lyft driver in South Fulton
SOUTH FULTON, Ga. - South Fulton police are asking for help finding a suspect accused of pulling a gun on a Lyft driver last month. Investigators shared a photo taken from a dashcam in the hopes that someone could identify him. What we know According to police, the incident happened on May 18 at around 4:10 p.m. near Big Boat Drive and Stone Bay Drive. Officials believe the suspect is a juvenile.
