Irish IT firm with Belfast base lands NI public sector deal worth up to £150m
Version 1, which employs around 500 staff in Belfast, has won a contract with the Department of Finance for its Integr8 Programme. The deal will include the implementation of an Oracle finance and HR cloud platform, along with an IT service management platform, and managed services. The contract is for an initial five years, but the option for a further five years. The potential value of the contract ranges from £63m to £150m. 'This range reflects the potential scale of the contract and takes into account changes and potential modifications to the contract that may be required,' it says. Recently, Version 1 and the Education Authority were awarded Development Team of the Year at the Belfast Telegraph IT Awards, for their successful collaboration in developing and delivering EA Connect. They were described by the judges as 'a very worthy winner of the Development Team of the Year, more so as it demonstrates the benefit of collaboration between public and private sector teams'. Their collaboration had resulted in 'tangible and demonstrable benefits to communities,' the judges said. 'EA Connect hits the mark in terms of sustainability objectives, data safety and parental enablement and communication. It's a genuine win-win for all stakeholders involved.' Version 1 also recently acquired Farsight Consulting for an undisclosed amount. Farsight Consulting is a UK-based company with a strong track record in delivering digital transformation projects with organisations across the public sector. It will add an additional £17m in annual revenue and 133 staff to Version 1's operations. Version 1 already partners with Farsight on several large-scale government projects, and this move will provide a compelling and powerful value proposition to all customers and prospects in this space. Version 1 is a leader in digital transformation, partnering strategically with global organisations to transform and adopt technology and drive innovation in a responsible way. 'We warmly welcome everyone from the Farsight team to Version 1 and are eager to see the positive impact that this acquisition will have for our customers and potential customers in the public sector space,' the firm said. Casino owner Rank Group set for profit boost from gambling reforms
Casino and bingo hall firm Rank Group has said Government gambling reforms are expected to drive stronger profits. It came as the firm behind Grosvenor casinos reported a significant jump in profits for the past year. Nevertheless, Maidenhead-based Rank Group saw shares tip lower on Thursday morning. The company, which also owns Mecca Bingo, revealed that net gaming revenues (NGR) rose by 8% to £795.4 million for the year to June 30, compared with a year earlier. Meanwhile, it revealed that pre-tax profits soared by 248% to £53.9 million for the year. It said that revenue and profits growth was supported by a strong year for the Grosvenor business, where revenues increased 14%, alongside a 10% rise for its digital division. Rank said Grosvenor was boosted by recent investments to improve its product offering and customer risk management. It expects this to be accelerated further following new reforms for casino venues, which were padded by the Government last month. The reforms include easing restriction on the number of gaming machines and sports betting within casinos. Rank said it expects to bring an extra 850 gaming machines into venues this year as a result. Mr O'Reilly said: 'We have had another successful year, delivering revenue growth and profit ahead of our expectations. 'Both online and in our venues the customer reaction to the investments we are making in our businesses has been excellent. 'We are growing profitability and have a strong net cash position which will enable both continued investment and progressive dividend returns for our shareholders.' Shore Capital analyst Greg Johnson said: 'Encouragingly, the strong momentum has continued into the new financial year, with NGR ahead by 9% in the first few weeks, ahead of our full year assumption of 6%, in what is set to be a transformational year for the group, as the casino estate finally begins to benefit from long-awaited land-based reform. 'We recently revised upwards our estimates to reflect this opportunity, with operating profit now forecast to build to over £100 million by full-year 2029, with today's results supportive.'

Wrexham poised to break club transfer record for Nathan Broadhead
Wrexham are ready to break their transfer record in a deal worth up to £10million for Ipswich striker Nathan Broadhead, according to reports. The Red Dragons have tracked the 27-year-old Wales international for several weeks and are widely reported to be finalising the move after Ipswich signed Chuba Akpom from Ajax. Broadhead is in the final year of his contract at Ipswich, having joined them on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Everton for £1.5m in January 2023. Bangor-born Broadhead was in the Wrexham youth system before joining Everton at the age of 10. Wrexham have broken their transfer record numerous times since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took control of the club in 2021. Lewis O'Brien joined from Nottingham Forest in a reported £3m deal last month, the midfielder one of several signings as Sky Bet Championship new boys Wrexham invested heavily ahead of their first campaign in the second tier of English football for 43 years. Broadhead would be Wrexham's ninth signing since they were promoted from League One last season. He has won 14 caps for Wales, scoring twice, and would join international team-mates Danny Ward and Kieffer Moore at the SToK Cae Ras.
