A tale of 2 criminals: Friend-turn-foe is prime suspect in Chandan Mishra murder
The prime suspect — mastermind behind the murder — is said to be Chandan's former associate and once close friend, Onkarnath Singh, alias Sheru.
The duo, who once terrorised the Shahabad region of Bihar, experienced a dramatic turn in their relationship from friends to foe. Their partnership, which began while serving time in a remand home in 2009, dominated four districts — Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas and Kaimur — through a reign of terror lasting nearly a decade.
The gang was involved in the murder of a coaching operator and policeman on jail duty in Bhojpur district among others.
It gained attention after the gang announced to kill Buxar's lime trader Rajendra Kesari when he refused to pay extortion, and the next day on Aug 21, 2011, Chandan did just that. However, a rift occurred in the Chandan-Sheru gang again while serving jail terms, this time as adults, in 2015.
They had formed a gang after coming out of the juvenile home, and became notorious for extortion, murders and brazen shoot-outs.

Their signature method involved motorcycle-borne shootings using 9mm pistols, targeting businessmen, contractors and law enforcement officials.
For Chandan, it all started during a match at Sonbarsa Cricket Ground in Buxar around 2006. While playing, a fight broke out between Chandan and one Sonu Mishra from his village. Chandan went to Sonu's house to complain, but was beaten up instead. After returning home, he took his father's licensed rifle and shot Sonu dead, marking the beginning of his tainted career.
An Inter commerce student then, Chandan was caught by the villagers and handed over to police.
He spent three-and-a-half years in jail, before being sent to a remand home after his family provided proof of him being a minor. Chandan, however, managed to escape, during a court appearance in Buxar in Oct 2010.
Sheru was in the juvenile home for killing his uncle.
The first murder by the Chandan-Sheru duo was of Naushad, the former head of Naya Bhojpur panchayat (Buxar).
According to Chandan's confession, Naushad wanted to have them killed. One Ilyas Mian was acting as a middleman. Although Chandan or Sheru did not know Naushad, they used an associate to identify him. They followed Naushad on a bike and shot him in head with 9mm bullets, which went on to become their modus operandi.
It is said the Chandan-Sheru gang members used to live in Maulabag area of Buxar.
The Chandan-Sheru gang committed six murders in 2011, including of Kesari on Aug 21 that year, and one each in 2012 and 2013.
After the murder of Kesari, both fled to Kolkata, where they were arrested, before being presented in court on Dec 17, 2012.
During this time, Sheru snatched a weapon from a guard in the court, shot him, and escaped by jumping over a wall. However, a few days later, Sheru was arrested in Ara. Once again, Chandan and Sheru were imprisoned in Buxar jail.
But yet another fight led to Chandan's break-up with Sheru. On the evening of July 23, 2015, a fight broke out in Buxar jail between the two friends over the distribution of extortion money, indicating that their partnership had ended. Afterwards, Chandan was transferred to Bhagalpur and then to Beur jail in Patna. Sheru was sentenced to death by the lower court, which was later commuted to life imprisonment by the Patna high court.
It is almost after a decade that Sheru is suspected to end it all by killing Chandan.

Residents want PMC to be proactive in tackling illegal hawkers
Pune: People have urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to remain vigilant and proactive in dealing with illegal hawkers who continue to occupy streets despite repeated actions and cause traffic issues. According to the civic data, Rs95 lakh have been collected in fines from nearly 8,000 roadside vendors in the last six months. Drives against unauthorised hawkers are welcome, but they should be carried out consistently, said Anil Patil from Kothrud. "Walking on the road has become a tough task for pedestrians. Not only hawkers, but also their customers are creating a nuisance," he said. Bavdhan resident Prasanna Balsare said a dedicated team should be set up for this purpose. "Many hawkers are repeat offenders; they come up again within a day or two after the action." "Facilities related to the safety and security of hawkers and their businesses are missing," said Sanjay Shanke of Janeev Organisation, which works for hawkers. Sankhe said PMC should conduct a biometric survey of street vendors, distribute new certificates, and reduc their fees. Clean water supply, drainage lines, toilets, roofs for protection from the heat and rain, lighting, and CCTV cameras should be provided at the zones, hawkers said. Available data shows that there are around 22,000 authorised hawkers. PMC received 38,000 applications when a survey began around four years ago. The administration finalised 525 zones against a demand of 1,900 zones made by hawkers. Who are street vendors? The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, defines street vendor as a person engaged in vending articles, goods, wares, food items, or merchandise of everyday use or offering services to the general public, in a street, lane, sidewalk, footpath, pavement, public park, or any other public place or private area, from a temporary built-up structure or by moving from place to place. It includes hawker, peddler, squatter, and all other synonymous terms which may be local or region-specific; and the words "street vending" with their grammatical variations and cognate expressions shall be construed accordingly. What action can be taken? The law aims to protect the right of vendors but they are liable for action if they flout norms. A fine is charged if a vendor is engaged in activities without a certificate of vending, contravenes the terms of the certificate of vending, or contravenes any other terms and conditions specified for the purpose of regulating street vending. The fine can be extended up to Rs 2,000 as may be determined by the local authority.

‘Ambassador' of Saborga and Lodonia: Who is Harshvardhan Jain, and how did he run a fake embassy in Ghaziabad for 7 years?
In a dramatic crackdown, the Noida unit of Uttar Pradesh's Special Task Force (STF) has busted a fake 'embassy' being run out of a residential neighborhood in Ghaziabad. The man at the center of the scam is Harshvardhan Jain , a self-styled 'ambassador' who posed as a diplomat for fictional countries like West Arctica, Saborga, Poulvia, and Lodonia — duping people with fake promises of foreign jobs and international connections. The Bust: How Authorities Caught Him According to ADG (Law & Order) Amitabh Yash, Jain operated the sham diplomatic mission out of a rented house in Kavi Nagar, Ghaziabad, for several years. He used fake diplomatic license plates on his cars, claimed ambassadorial status, and presented forged credentials that included: 12 fake diplomatic passports Four vehicles with fraudulent diplomatic plates Fake documents stamped with the Ministry of External Affairs seal Two forged PAN cards 34 rubber stamps of fictitious nations and shell companies Two fake press IDs Rs 44.7 lakh in cash Foreign currency from multiple countries by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo Officials also recovered documents linked to numerous shell companies believed to be used for money laundering through hawala channels. All about Harshvardhan Jain Harshvardhan Jain is said to be the son of a Ghaziabad-based businessman with ancestral marble mines in Rajasthan. According to a report of India Today, he has an MBA degree from the London College of Applied Science and ITS College, Ghaziabad. Jain allegedly had ties with controversial godman Chandraswami and international arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi. This wasn't, however, Jain's first encounter with law enforcement. In 2011, he was arrested for possessing an illegal satellite phone. His background reveals a pattern of high-level deception and fraudulent activity: Live Events The Fake Embassy Racket For nearly seven years, Jain ran what he called the 'West Arctic Embassy,' luring people in with promises of overseas employment, diplomatic perks, and high-level contacts. He regularly introduced himself as the Consul or Ambassador of non-existent micronations and even issued forged diplomatic documents to create an aura of legitimacy. According to reports, Jain digitally edited photographs of himself with political leaders, including PM Narendra Modi and former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to boost his credibility. He would often be seen traveling in vehicles bearing fake diplomatic plates — further helping him pass off as a legitimate diplomat. SSP STF Sushil Ghule revealed that Jain also used morphed images with well-known dignitaries and operated shell companies to facilitate hawala transactions. He had created an elaborate system to gain people's trust and extract money under the guise of foreign job offers, business deals, and diplomatic benefits. An FIR has been registered at the Kavi Nagar police station, and a deeper probe is underway to expose the full extent of Jain's operations and possible accomplices. Authorities are also investigating the scope of his connections with other international entities.

Govt planning to install CCTVs in schools
1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: The Odisha govt is considering installing CCTV cameras across all govt and private schools, replicating the surveillance framework already in place in CBSE-affiliated institutions, school and mass education minister Nityananda Gond said on Wednesday. "The govt is exploring various ways to strengthen the child protection mechanism on school campuses and the education department is discussing this and related plans for immediate implementation of CCTV cameras to ensure safety and security of children," Gond said. Following the suicide of a college student in Balasore on July 12, govt has asked all schools and offices in the school and mass education department to form Internal Complaints Committees (ICC), in line with the provisions of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. "Instructions have already been issued for setting up ICC committees and ensuring that they are functional. Besides, training of these committees will be initiated soon so that they operate effectively and sensitively address complaints from students," Gond added. The department also issued a directive to all district education officers (DEOs) to strictly implement measures ensuring the safety of women employees at workplaces and create a secure environment for students in schools. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo "The safety and security of students is our priority. Schools will prominently display helpline numbers so that anyone can lodge their grievances without any hindrance. All complaints will be addressed seriously and sensitively," the minister said. However, parents expressed concern about the feasibility of the plan as many schools in the state don't have electricity connections. "In many interior schools, there is no electricity; how can they install CCTVs? There is a need for more teachers in schools instead of CCTV cameras," Rashmi Ranjan Pradhan, a parent, said.
