Time of Indiaa day ago

Domestic carrier
IndiGo
on Friday said it has inked an initial pact with
Bangalore International Airport
Ltd (BIAL) to set up a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at the Bangalore International Airport.
Under the agreement, BIAL will allocate about 31 acres to IndiGo for development of MRO infrastructure to support the airline's expanding fleet, it said in a statement.
The facility will be equipped to handle both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, further strengthening IndiGo's maintenance capabilities and operational presence at the Bengaluru Airport.

"Developing broad IndiGo MRO capabilities marks a significant and very strategic step for IndiGo. Partnering with BIAL underlines our shared commitment to drive long-term growth of the aviation ecosystem in Bengaluru", IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers said.
Together with BIAL, IndiGo is further shaping the future of Indian aviation by focusing on innovation, growth and global connectivity that will define India's leadership in the skies, he added.

"We see this collaboration as a pivotal step towards building a significant global presence for IndiGo, as well as for India," he added.
"We have had a very successful, long-term relationship with IndiGo and this collaboration further strengthens our association with the airline. This is a strong validation of the growth potential of Bangalore Airport and the city as a premier aviation hub," BIAL MD and CEO Hari Marar said.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Government of Karnataka for their continued support in making this collaboration possible and enabling us to drive forward the next phase of aviation-led growth for the region, he said.
The initial pact also outlines broader collaboration in areas, including network expansion, infrastructure development, and joint marketing initiatives.
This partnership reflects the strategic intent of both organisations to enhance aviation infrastructure and position Bengaluru as a key hub for domestic and international operations for passenger and air cargo, as per the statement.
With more than 400 aircraft in its fleet, a dedicated MRO facility will give a significant advantage in terms of aircraft availability, greater cost efficiencies and quicker turnaround benefiting the airline and its customers, IndiGo said.
Further, the development of the MRO facility will help strengthen the aerospace and defence ecosystem in Karnataka, it added.
IndiGo already has one MRO facility each in Delhi and Bengaluru.

Indian beauty products retailer Nykaa's profit surges on demand for premium products

Reuters Revenue from Nykaa's fashion apparel business climbed 11% to 1.61 billion rupees in the quarter. Indian beauty products retailer Nykaa, on Friday, posted a fourth-quarter profit that nearly tripled year on year as premium brands continued to attract urban consumers. The company, listed as FSN E-Commerce Ventures, said its consolidated net profit rose to 202.8 million rupees ($2.4 million) in the quarter, from 69.3 million rupees a year ago. Nykaa's total revenue, over 92% of which comes from its beauty products, jumped nearly 24% to 20.62 billion rupees. Sales of beauty products, including from international brands such as Estee Lauder and singer Rihanna's Fenty Beauty, increased 25% to 18.95 billion. The premium segment in India's $28 billion beauty and personal care industry has defied a broader slowdown in urban consumption as upper middle class and richer consumers continued to splurge on discretionary items. Higher sales of premium products helped Nykaa's gross margins expand by 151 basis points to 44.1% in the quarter. The company's net profit also got a boost from total expenses rising 23%, less than total revenue growth, to 20.31 billion rupees. Revenue from Nykaa's fashion apparel business climbed 11% to 1.61 billion rupees in the quarter.

UoM pensioners face delay in payments due to lack of funds

Mysuru: If the state govt doesn't release funds immediately, the University of Mysore (UoM) pensioners, numbering over 1,900, will not receive their pension on time. According to sources, the varsity is waiting for govt funds to pay the pension this month. Meanwhile, pensioners are demanding financial discipline in the UoM to save the institute from bankruptcy. Every month, the university requires Rs.8.5 crore to pay the pension for its retired staff. For the last few months, the UoM has been totally dependent on govt support to pay pensions. According to the pensioners, the pension amount was generally credited to their bank accounts on the last date of every month. "But in recent months, it was delayed to the second or third day of the next month. This month, it is expected to be delayed again as the govt is yet to release funds," explained a pensioner who wished to remain unnamed. "With no funds, the university is totally dependent on the govt for the money to release pensions. So, it is getting delayed," a pensioner explained. "With the trifurcation of the university, the university's revenue is declining. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The need of the hour is an action plan to support the university," he said. Lokanath NK, VC, UoM, informed that the university is waiting for govt funds to pay the pension. "The govt assured us of releasing money in this regard. Once we receive funds, pensions will be paid," he explained. Pensioners Association president K Mahadev stated that the situation is worrying. "The pension fund became empty due to the excess recruitment of temporary non-teaching staff," he alleged. "The university authorities recruited hundreds of excess non-teaching staff. Politicians, irrespective of party affiliation, secured jobs for their candidates in the university. There is no space for these staff to sit in the departments. These excess recruitments resulted in the financial crisis," he alleged.
