The players with the most PFA Player of the Year awards
The Liverpool winger has been recognised with English football's greatest individual honour, voted as the Premier League's finest footballer by his fellow professionals.
Salah has been honoured after a record-breaking season for the Reds. He led the Premier League for both goals and assists as Liverpool won the title, with his 47 goal involvements a record for a 38-game season.
The Egyptian's accolade is his third PFA recognition, following previous triumphs in the 2017/18 and 2021/22 seasons. Following Salah's success, we've ranked the players with the most PFA Player of the Year awards.
Mark Hughes (2)
Mark Hughes is one of seven players to have won the award multiple times, and the first to achieve this feat. The Welshman won the award for the first time in 1988/89, his first season after returning to Manchester United after a spell in Europe. Hughes scored 16 goals in all competitions and was voted the league's best player despite an 11th-place finish for the Red Devils.
Two seasons later, he won the award again. Hughes scored 21 times, including both goals, as United beat Barcelona in the 1991 European Cup Winners' Cup final.
Alan Shearer (2)
Alan Shearer twice won the award during a prolific period in the mid-nineties. Shearer first won the award in 1994/95 after firing Blackburn Rovers to the Premier League title. He scored 34 league goals as Rovers edged out Manchester United in the title race.
Shearer is the only player to have won the award when representing different clubs. His second accolade came in 1996/97, after winning the Premier League's Golden Boot during his debut season at Newcastle United.
Thierry Henry (2)
Thierry Henry was a cut above the competition during his time at Arsenal and became the first footballer to win the PFA Player of the Year Award in back-to-back seasons.
Henry won his first award in 2002/03, after scoring 23 goals and providing 20 assists. He remains the only player to have reached 20+ on both metrics in the same season, with his 20 assists still a single-season record (shared with Kevin De Bruyne).
Henry retained the award in 2003/04 after scoring 30 goals in Arsenal's 'Invincibles' campaign. The Frenchman won the Golden Boot as the Gunners lifted the title without losing a game.
Cristiano Ronaldo (2)
Cristiano Ronaldo repeated Henry's feat after PFA successes in 2006/07 and 2007/08.
The first of those seasons saw Ronaldo become the first player to win all four major PFA and FWA awards in the same season, as he was awarded the PFA Player's Player, Fans' Player, Young Player of the Year awards, and the Football Writers' Association's Footballer of the Year award.
A year later, he scored 42 goals in all competitions to lead Manchester United to Premier League and Champions League success. Alongside his second PFA award, Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or for the first time.
Gareth Bale (2)
Gareth Bale emerged as the Premier League's leading light with PFA awards in 2010/11 and 2012/13. His performances during the second of those campaigns attracted interest from Real Madrid, who broke the world transfer record to sign the Welsh winger from Spurs.
Kevin De Bruyne (2)
Kevin De Bruyne was honoured with the PFA prize for the first time in 2019/20, after equalling the Premier League's single-season assist record (20).
He retained the award the following season after a crucial role in Manchester City's title success.
Mohamed Salah (3)
Mohamed Salah has become the first player in history to win the PFA Player of the Year award on three occasions.
Salah's sensational debut season at Liverpool earned him his first award in 2017/18, after scoring 44 goals in all competitions for the Reds.
He was recognised again in 2021/22 after leading the Premier League for goals and assists, before adding a third for his record-breaking feats in 2024/25. Last season, he was directly involved in 47 goals in just 38 appearances for title-winners Liverpool.

However, his career in Ligue 1 is seemingly drawing to a close, with the player already searching for a new club. Despite Rabiot's elite status in European football, his age could prove fatal to his ambition to sign for Inter.

Villarreal set to break their transfer record
Villarreal set to break their transfer record originally appeared on The Sporting News Villarreal had a pretty good season last year as they finished 5th in La Liga last year and qualified for the Champions League. They started off their league campaign with a comfortable win against Real Oviedo and seem like they're on track for another good season. It seems like Villarreal are also expecting to have a good season as they are reportedly looking to improve their team by making a record signing. Renato Veiga to Villarreal Portuguese centre back Renato Veiga is heading to Villarreal on a seven year deal according to Fabrizio Romano. The club is set to pay Chelsea 29.5 million euros with a 40% sell-on clause that helped entice The Blues to complete the deal. The Portuguese centre back spent last season on loan at Juventus as he had struggled to settle in with Chelsea falling victim to the constant buying and selling of young talents that have become a staple of the new regime. Now, the talented centre back has the chance to settle down and develop and could become one of the best centre backs in the league. Villarreal Ambitions Villarreal fans should be ecstatic with this signing as their club is showing the ambition to build on last season and improve the team. They improve on their centre backs and should be able to make the starting eleven. It's the right move to make when the club is competing in multiple competitions this year. Villarreal will hope to make a significant push in Europe and push to be the best of the rest in La Liga.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer expects Micah Parsons to play in season-opener amid messy trade request
Though there hasn't been much movement publicly, Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is confident that star Micah Parsons will be out on the field for their season opener in a few weeks. Whether or not that means Parsons and the Cowboys have a new deal in place, however, is a different question. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] 'I feel good about that, yeah,' Schottenheimer said on Wednesday when asked if he thought Parsons would be taking the field in Week 1, via The Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins. 'I feel good that Micah is going to be out there against the Philadelphia Eagles.' Parsons is entering the fifth-year option of his rookie contract this fall, which is set to pay him about $24 million this season. He has undoubtedly proven himself to be one of the best defensive players throughout the league already. He had 12 sacks and 43 total tackles in 13 games last season while dealing with an ankle injury. But despite having months to get it done, Parsons and the Cowboys failed to reach a contract extension this offseason. That led to Parsons making a trade request early in training camp, something that owner Jerry Jones said he doesn't plan to honor. Parsons has been with the Cowboys throughout the entire preseason, but he's been limited in part due to a back injury. Jones and the Cowboys don't appear to be any closer to a new deal, either. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, things have gotten 'personal' and each side is 'dug in.' 'I don't know if necessarily talks will [pick up], but we've got a game coming, and he's under contract,' Jones said last week as the team wrapped up its California portion of training camp. There is plenty of time to go before the Cowboys take the field against the Eagles on Sept. 4. Jones, who has been in this position plenty of times before in his time with the franchise, could easily reconcile with Parsons in time and strike a new deal. But at least for now with negotiations looming, both Jones and Schottenheimer are clear on one thing. They expect Parsons out on that field in Week 1.
