Johnny Depp recalls abusive childhood at the hands of his violent mother and reflects on moment he was axed from Harry Potter movie after being 'dumped' by Hollywood amid ex Amber Heard's allegations of abuse

Daily Maila day ago
Johnny Depp has reflected on his abusive childhood as well as his 'dumping' by Hollywood in an emotional new interview.
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star, 62, recalled how his mother Betty Sue Palmer, who died in 2016 aged 81, was volatile, unpredictable and often violent.
He told The Telegraph: 'She beat me with a f****** stick, a f***** shoe, an ashtray, a phone, it didn't matter, man. But I thank her for that'.
Johnny, who shares daughter Lily-Rose, 26, and son Jack, 23, with ex Vanessa Paradis, continued: 'She taught me how not to raise kids. Just do the exact opposite of what she did'.
Johnny previously spoke about his traumatic childhood when he took the stand in his $100M defamation trial in 2022 against ex-wife Amber Heard, 39, who accused him of abuse, which he strenuously denied.
The couple's alleged violent relationship sent shockwaves throughout the industry and both parties were dropped from work projects at the time.
Johnny was recast in the Fantastic Beasts series by Mads Mikkelsen and has now recalled the moment he axed from the movie amid his Hollywood 'dumping'.
Despite already filming one scene of the franchise's second film The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018 he said 'It literally stopped in a millisecond,'.
Telling the publication: 'Like while I was doing the movie. They said we'd like you to resign. But what was really in my head was they wanted me to retire'.
He remembered his response being: 'F*** you. There's far too many of me to kill. If you think you can hurt me more than I've already been hurt you're gravely mistaken'.
Speaking about his mother in court back in 2022 he said: 'In our house we were never exposed to any type of safety or security, the only thing to do was stay out of the line of fire,' he told lawyers from the stand. 'My mother was quite unpredictable. She had the ability to be as cruel as anyone can be with all of us,'
The family moved from Kentucky to Florida when Depp was seven years-old, where they lived in a motel for nearly a year before his father John Depp found a job.
'Physical violence, physical abuse. That was a constant. We were all somewhat shell-shocked. She'd walked past, you'd shield yourself because you didn't know what would happen,'
'She could become quite violent, and she was quite violent, and she was quite cruel,' Depp said, chuckling at the memory of his mother's beatings, 'There was physical abuse, certainly, which could be in the form of an ash tray being flung at you, or you'd get beat with a high heeled shoe, or a telephone, or whatever's handy.'
But Johnny said that his mother's physical attacks were easy to handle compared to the psychological abuse she filled their home with.
'The verbal abuse, the psychological abuse, was almost worse than the beatings. The beatings were just physical pain,' the actor added. 'The physical pain, you learn to deal with. You learn to accept it. You learn to deal with it.'
Last month the actor spoken out about how he was 'deserted' by three of his closest friends after he was accused of abuse by his ex-wife.
Johnny married Amber in 2015 after the pair met on set of The Rum Diary (2011). However, she filed for divorce the following year, and it was finalised in 2017.
As well as being axed from jobs, Johnny has now claimed he was also let down by some of the people in his inner circle who attended his children's birthday parties.
Speaking to the Sunday Times, Johnny criticised the actions of three of his close friends and claimed he had been a 'crash test dummy for the #MeToo movement'.
He said: 'I'll tell you what hurts. There are people, and I'm thinking of three, who did me dirty. Those people were at my kids' parties, throwing them in the air.'
'And, look, I understand people who could not stand up [for me], because the most frightening thing to them was making the right choice.'
Johnny's agent of 30 years who was sacked in 2016, Tracey Jacobs, spoke out against him during the highly publicised defamation trial.
Tracey claimed that studios were 'reluctant' to hire Johnny because of his reputation for being late to work.
He said of Tracey: 'My loyalty is the last thing anybody could question. I was with one agent for 30 years, but she spoke in court about how difficult I was.'
Johnny (L) was recast in the Fantastic Beasts series by Mads Mikkelsen (R)and has now recalled the moment he learned the news
As well as being axed from jobs, Johnny has now claimed he was also let down by some of the people in his inner circle who attended his children's birthday parties.
During the Depp v. Heard trial that came to an end in June 2022, Johnny received a rally of support from fans at the Fairfax County courtroom in Virginia.
Johnny and Amber's publicised legal issues began when he filed a libel lawsuit against The Sun's publisher and it's executive editor Dan Wootton over a 2018 article which included claims that he was a 'wife beater.'
But in 2020, the High Court of Justice ruled in favour of The Sun's publisher and Wootton, but Johnny later sued Amber in 2019 for defamation over a 2018 op-ed article she wrote for The Washington Post.
She countersued her ex-husband in 2020 and the trial officially began in April 2022. Two months later, the jury's verdict was in favour of Johnny.
At the time, the star had offered his reaction to the ruling and expressed that the 'jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.'
He star also expressed, 'Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children and to all those who have remained steadfast in their support of me. I feel at peace knowing I have finally accomplished that.'
Amber has since moved and settled in Spain - where she raises her three children, a daughter born in 2021 via surrogacy and she announced in May that she had also welcomed twins.
Johnny has also made his return to the big screen following the trial, such as Jeanne du Barry (2023).

Would you pay $80 for popcorn? Movie theaters are betting yes

Popcorn markups have long been a gripe for movie theatre goers, but the latest hit to their wallets will be the container it is served in. Over the last few years a new phenomenon has taken over cinemas across America: specially designed popcorn buckets to accompany blockbuster releases. The bucket due to be released alongside Marvel's 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' is set to cost $80, the Wall Street Journal reported. It will feature a replica of the head of the film's villain Galactus, complete with glowing LED eyes and removable purple horns. It may also need its own seat at the movie theatre, as the enormous bowl is able to hold up to 361 ounces of popcorn, more than twice that of a typical large popcorn serving. Other recent custom popcorn buckets include a Daily Planet newspaper box for 'Superman,' a martial art board bucket top for 'Karate Kid: Legends' and a vault with a special key for the latest 'Mission: Impossible.' These popcorn buckets have tended to cost in the region of $25 to $50. Both film producers and cinema chains are eager to produce a bucket they hope will help generate revenue and excitement about an upcoming film. 'It's very accretive and complementary to what we're doing at the box office and concession sales,' John Curry, senior vice president of commercial at Regal, told the Journal. In 2023, Swifties went wild for the Eras Tour film bucket with the popstar blazoned on the side. The craze took off even more after the release of the popcorn holder for 'Dune: Part Two' last year. The custom container from AMC was designed to resemble one of the giant sandworms from the film. However, fans soon suggested the mouth was sexually suggestive and turned the buckets into a viral sensation. 'Saturday Night Live' even created a skit about a teenager losing their virginity to the bucket. However, the publicity led to more demand and 'now everybody wants to do a popcorn bucket and everyone wants to make it into something that will be iconic,' Rod Mason, vice president of business development at Zinc, told the Journal. Zinc licenses the rights to make its collectible buckets from studios and then movie theatres order them to sell to consumers. Chains such as AMC and Cinemark tend to order between 20,000 and 100,000 of each bucket design. Sometimes the buckets are an instant hit and sell out before being resold by consumers on eBay for hundreds of dollars. Other designs that flop, often along with the films themselves, end up being sold by the movie theatres at a discount online.

I partied with Noel Gallagher in the 1990s and met him numerous times over 28 years - here's what he's REALLY like, and how fame changed him

A woman who partied with Noel Gallagher in the 1990s and met him numerous times over 28 years has revealed what he's really like - as Oasis returns for the first time in 16 years. Lily Moayeri, from California has been a music journalist since 1992, interviewing some of the world's most influential musicians at the start of their careers, including Oasis. She first met Noel during a night out in 1992, after she was invited to an after party by Manchester rock band Inspiral Carpets, who Noel was a roadie for. Since then, she has interviewed him many times over the course of his career. They developed a strong rapport, she wasn't afraid to ask the tough questions, and she could both take his banter and dish it right back. She described him as 'a show off' with a 'witty sense of humour', but she noticed a change in Noel around 1997. She claimed things were starting to feel 'different' as she noticed that Noel had stopped 'making eye contact with people' and by 2000 he was already talking about leaving the band. Speaking on the Pictures of Lily Podcast, she said: 'I first met Noel in 1992 when he was a roadie for the Inspiral Carpets, the Inspirals were apart of the Manchester craze which was happening at the start of that decade. 'My interview with their guitarist Graham Lambert was my second ever interview and they were my second favourite band at the time, so I was very excited. 'After the Inspiral's show Graham and the band invited me and my friends to hang out at a nearby bar, it was here that we were first exposed to the entity that is Noel Gallagher. 'Noel was so loud, so talkative and such a show off, he was dominating the whole place, he was very very funny and he had us in stitches the whole time. 'He kept on saying loads of negative stuff about the Inspiral Carpets and he said he was going to have a band "a hundred times better" and he kept on telling us how much they were paying him to be a roadie.' The next time she met Noel was two years later at the Chemical Brothers Heavenly Sunday social, after the Oasis album Definitely Maybe had been released. She recalled: 'I hadn't listened to it, and I had made my mind up without hearing it that I was over it. 'I didn't realise at the time but they were playing Oasis's Live Forever and the whole place was singing at the top of their lungs and the whole place was soaking it up. 'I didn't place him but I knew I had met him before, and I was going over to ask him "where do I know you from?" but I decided against it because I was having a really good time and I didn't want to start a conversation with some random dude.' 'Later that year I was watching MTV News and they were doing a segment on Oasis and they mentioned that Noel used to be the Inspiral Carpets roadie and everything fell into place.' A year later, after the release of What's the Story, Morning Glory, Lily got to meet Noel again, but this time for an interview. In 1995, they at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, Oasis were there to film the music video for Don't look Back in Anger. She said: 'I reminded Noel that we had met before and we had a super fun time during the interview. 'I was recording on cassette tape, I had another interview that week and I was running out of tape so I stopped the recording and Noel thought it was insane that I would stop just to save tape for someone else - in retrospect I see him point.' She said during the interview he went to buy cigarettes and she said they were cheaper down the road and he said "I don't care because I'm f***ing rich!" Noel said: 'I never thought we would get to this stage, I needed the money, well I made good money as a roadie but then I quit that.' In the interview, he claimed the songs Liam wrote were 's***', but he found it to be a 'a lot of pressure' as the main songwriter of the group. Noel wrote the vast majority of the band's songs, including many of their most iconic hits up until 2000. While Liam also wrote some songs for the band, such as Songbird and I'm Outta Time, Noel's songwriting was the foundation of Oasis's success. During Lily's 1995 interview with Noel he also opened up about his drug taking. He said: 'If we don't have an album or a single coming out the article is going to be about drug. I've never told a lie, if someone asks me a question, I give them a straight answer. 'It's not big and clever to take drugs, I'd rather be a healthy person but the culture I was brought up on in Manchester was about drugs and gangs, there is no getting away from it. 'I'd love to give up smoking, drinking and drugs but I'm not going to be a hypocritical, up my own a**, righteous f*****, telling people not to do it when I do it myself. 'Every does it anyway, and there is people who deny it and they lie to themselves, but I can't for the life of me see what the f**** it has to do with the music.' Elsewhere in the interview Noel said 'Oasis won't last forever' he added: 'It will last as it as it lasts, the next album might be the last one, but then we could go for another 10 albums, its as long as I feel comfortable.' The next time Lily saw Oasis was when they were opening up for U2 at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California in 1997. She claimed things were starting to feel 'different' as she noticed that Noel had stopped 'making eye contact with people'. In 2000, when she interviewed him again, Lily revealed it felt rushed and not as relaxed as it did in her earlier interviewers. Noel told her he had planned to leave the band because he 'had enough' and he 'didn't like the people' he had to work with. He said: 'I felt like we weren't going anywhere, it was useless. I felt my time would be better served as a solo artist so I gave up drug, rediscovered the writing bug, it was brilliant.' Nine years after that interview, Oasis officially announced their split days after their V Festival show on August 28, 2009. In her podcast, Lily said: 'The thing that I found with Noel is, he doesn't have deep seated loyalties, he has people who are loyal to him but he could drop his end of it without any explanation or reason instantly. 'There is always that fear surrounding him, I wasn't surprised when they other members of Oasis didn't follow him when the band broke up.' In another interview years later, Lily asked Noel if he wanted to have the same impact as Oasis had as a solo artist. He said: 'I didn't realise what had happened until it was all over, to be honest it' never going to happen again, it's never going to happen for me, it might not ever happen again in rock and roll. 'The music keeps on regenerating, it couldn't happen to me now what happened to Oasis then. I wouldn't be able to deal with that. Well, I would be able to deal with it but I wouldn't be able to enjoy it.' Lisa revealed that Noel has a 'witty sense of humour' and said you can always count on him for a laugh. However she did find it 'a little weird' that he used to always bring up money, how much things cost, how much he was getting paid, how much people should be paying him for things.

Tiffany Trump offers FIRST glimpse at newborn baby after welcoming son with husband Michael Boulos

Tiffany Trump, the daughter of President Donald Trump, posted the first photos of her newborn son's face Thursday on Instagram, showing him off in a number of adorable snaps. Tiffany and husband Michael Boulos welcomed their first child, son Alexander Trump Boulos, in May. In the first of the new photos, Alexander, who has thick brown hair and blue eyes, can be seen sweetly looking at the camera while being held by his mom with his mouth open in surprise. The second picture showed her husband holding the baby, while Tiffany looked lovingly at her son. The new parents were both dressed in white. In another snap, they dressed him up in a knit teddy bear outfit, as he slept peacefully in a wooden basket. Others included Tiffany sweetly holding Alexander, as well as more family photos. Tiffany first announced her son's birth on Instagram, so it's only fitting that she would continue to post more photos of him on the social media platform. When Tiffany shared the initial announcement of her son's arrival, she shared a black-and-white snapshot of the baby's foot, alongside a caption that read: 'Welcome to the world our sweet baby boy, Alexander Trump Boulos. 'We love you beyond words! Thank you for coming into our lives!' Michael was quick to comment on the post, writing: 'He's a blessing!' Mom Marla Maples also shared: 'No greater joy in the world. Michael and Tiffany this Gran Mar Mar loves you all so much!! You rocked it, my girl!' The newborn is Donald's 11th grandchild. His son, Donald Trump Jr. has five children, while daughter Ivanka Trump has three, and son Eric Trump has two. Tiffany publicly confirmed that she was expecting her first child in mid-December, months after her father announced it to the world. The President excitedly shared the news that he was going to become a grandfather again while speaking at the Detroit Economic Club back in October. He recognized several guests in the crowd, including businessman Massad Boulos, who is Tiffany's father-in-law, and then delivered the good news. 'He happens to be the father of Tiffany's husband, Michael, who's a very exceptional young guy,' said the President. 'And she's an exceptional young woman. And she's going to have a baby. So that's nice.' Last month, her sister, Ivanka, threw her a lavish Peter Rabbit-themed baby shower in Palm Beach, Florida. A radiant Tiffany was seen wore a stunning powder blue dress with short sleeves, which featured embellishments on the bust. Her other sister-in-law, Lara Trump, was also at the shower, while Ivanka shared details of the gorgeous celebration, including the intricately decorated cookies featuring adorable Peter Rabbit characters. Peter Rabbit motifs adorned the bar that was set up in outside the house. Tiffany was spotted posing in other snaps with friends including Camilla Ravah, Sarah Shatz and Karen Shiboleth. The couple started dating in 2018, after they met on vacation in the Greek Isles with actress Lindsay Lohan. Michael proposed in the White House Rose Garden with a 13-carat emerald-cut diamond ring worth $1.2 million. They married at Tiffany's father's Mar-a-Lago estate in November 2022. Tiffany, who graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 2020, has not been heavily involved in her father's political efforts - although she did attend the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last summer. Her billionaire husband Michael was born in Lebanon and is the heir to Boulos Enterprises, a Nigerian distribution and assembly company for vehicles including motorcycles and power bikes, run by his father.
