‘Makes you feel less alone': MS walk returns to Saskatoon

Saskatoon's annual MS Walk brought together over 300 people over the weekend.
'It's a gathering moment for people who want to support those impacted by this. It's a place for us to get together, raise some needed funds, and just gather as a community to show our support for those who are impacted by MS,' Jackie Pilon, an MS ambassador, said.
According to MS Canada, over 90,000 Canadians are impacted by multiple sclerosis, with 12 people receiving a new diagnosis each day. While similar events are held across the country, Pilon says each walk is an important opportunity to connect within the community.
'I'm hearing stories that people have been newly diagnosed and how their coworkers are coming together to walk with them and support them. I'm reconnecting with people I've met through the years through my association with MS Canada and just renewing friendships, saying hello, giving hugs to people, and learning more about what they've been up to since I last saw them,' Pilon said.
While there is currently no cure for MS, the event was still an opportunity to highlight the progress that has been made in recent years.
Pilon says it's an important reminder for those in attendance that strides are being made.
'When it comes to MS, there's a lot of research being done. There's so much progress when it comes to modifying therapies and medications. The research is ongoing. I mean, we're on our way to finding a cure. We are on our way, and I hope people feel that way,' Pilon said.
The walk was attended by people of all ages who either live with MS or have a loved one with the disease.
Pilon adds that while there are many struggles that come with MS, events like this one can have a profoundly positive impact.
'I mean, it's what keeps you going, right? Because MS is such an unpredictable disease... connecting with people who maybe have lived experience close to what you're going through makes you feel less alone,' Pilon said.
