‘Makes you feel less alone': MS walk returns to Saskatoon

Saskatoon's annual MS Walk brought together over 300 people over the weekend. 'It's a gathering moment for people who want to support those impacted by this. It's a place for us to get together, raise some needed funds, and just gather as a community to show our support for those who are impacted by MS,' Jackie Pilon, an MS ambassador, said. According to MS Canada, over 90,000 Canadians are impacted by multiple sclerosis, with 12 people receiving a new diagnosis each day. While similar events are held across the country, Pilon says each walk is an important opportunity to connect within the community. 'I'm hearing stories that people have been newly diagnosed and how their coworkers are coming together to walk with them and support them. I'm reconnecting with people I've met through the years through my association with MS Canada and just renewing friendships, saying hello, giving hugs to people, and learning more about what they've been up to since I last saw them,' Pilon said. While there is currently no cure for MS, the event was still an opportunity to highlight the progress that has been made in recent years. Pilon says it's an important reminder for those in attendance that strides are being made. 'When it comes to MS, there's a lot of research being done. There's so much progress when it comes to modifying therapies and medications. The research is ongoing. I mean, we're on our way to finding a cure. We are on our way, and I hope people feel that way,' Pilon said. The walk was attended by people of all ages who either live with MS or have a loved one with the disease. Pilon adds that while there are many struggles that come with MS, events like this one can have a profoundly positive impact. 'I mean, it's what keeps you going, right? Because MS is such an unpredictable disease... connecting with people who maybe have lived experience close to what you're going through makes you feel less alone,' Pilon said.

Hundreds of people walk to end Multiple Sclerosis

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — More than 500 people gathered on the Peoria Riverfront on Saturday to participate in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's annual event. The Multiple Sclerosis — or MS — walk raised over $90,000 to support research, awareness and services for those affected by multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system, disrupting the flow of information between the brain and the rest of the body. It occurs when the immune system attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers. The MS Walk is one of many held nationwide, aimed at funding efforts to find a cure for MS and supporting the more than one million Americans living with the disease. Participants included individuals living with MS, their families, caregivers, medical professionals, and supporters from the local community. Tony Hnilicka, a volunteer with the National MS Society, shared his hope for a future without the disease. 'With the support of all the wonderful sponsors and people—researchers, scientists, doctors, those really passionate about finding a cure to this illness—breakthroughs are happening every day,' said Hnilicka. 'And yes, I know I'm only 38, so I know I'm going to live to see a cure for MS. The event also highlighted the efforts of the walk's top fundraiser, whose story will be featured during the upcoming CI Heroes special airing on Monday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Philadelphia weather: What to expect as rain, thunderstorms on the way for weekend

The Brief Temperatures have been above normal and conditions have been dry, but that is about to change. Most of Saturday is likely to be dry, but as the day turns into evening, thunderstorm chances go up and storms could pack a punch. PHILADELPHIA - The Delaware Valley has been experiencing warm and dry conditions over the last few days, but that will all change this weekend as rain and thunderstorm chances go up, while temperatures fall closer to normal. What we know What We Know Friday has been an above-average, warm day with some pop-up rain activity and overnight, into Saturday, temperatures will remain mild. Most of Saturday stays dry, with just a 30 percent chance of rain and temperatures heading into the 80s, mirroring Friday's conditions. All of your Saturday activities, including the MS Walk and all of the other varied events taking place across the Delaware Valley should all be fine, provided they are happening in the morning to mid-afternoon. As Saturday progresses into dinnertime, thunderstorms will begin to fire up. We are facing a marginal risk of severe weather with these storms, with small hail and damaging wind gusts as the main threat. We could also see some heavy downpours with Saturday night's weather. What's next As the weekend evolves, showers remain for Sunday morning and most of next week we'll be dodging scattered showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall totals for some of these storms could be impressive, which will help with the drought situation. Temperatures will drop closer to normal for this time of year, topping out in the low 70s into next week.
