Google changes its appraisal program, VP emails to employees: "We want to be upfront that..."

Time of India03-05-2025
Google
announced major changes to its employee performance review system that will reward high performers with greater bonuses and equity while reducing compensation for others, according to an internal email sent to staff earlier this week.
"High performance is more important than ever to achieve the goals we've set," wrote John Casey, Google's vice president of global compensation and benefits, in the company-wide message. The revisions to Google's annual review process will allow more employees to achieve the coveted "Outstanding Impact" rating.
The company is restructuring what it calls the "Googler Reviews and Development" (GRAD) system to "further reward top contributors," Casey explained. The changes mean "more
Googlers
will have the opportunity to achieve that rating during annual reviews, and their bonus and equity award will be modeled using the O's individual multiplier in 2026."
Google spokesperson Courtenay Mencini confirmed the changes, stating: "We're making these changes to further reward top performers and continue our momentum across the company."

However, to fund these increased rewards, Google is "slightly reducing the bonus and equity individual multipliers for Significant Impact and Moderate Impact ratings," according to Casey. The company emphasized these changes are "budget-neutral" overall.
"We want to be upfront that to fund this we'll be slightly reducing the bonus and equity individual multipliers for Significant Impact and Moderate Impact ratings," Casey told staff, though he assured them that "Significant Impact will remain a strong rating — achieving it will still get you more than your target bonus."

"Hi Googlers,
As recent moments like the Gemini 2.5 Pro launch and Cloud Next have shown, there's incredible momentum across the company right now — it's so exciting to see Googlers pull together to deliver on our ambitious product roadmaps. High performance is more important than ever to achieve the goals we've set, and so we're making some changes to further reward top contributors, in all teams across the company.
First, we'll increase the ratings distribution guidance we give to leaders for Outstanding Impact (O). This means more Googlers will have the opportunity to achieve that rating during annual reviews, and their bonus and equity award will be modeled using the O's individual multiplier in 2026.
Second, we're increasing the discretionary budget we give to managers so they can further reward high performers within the Significant Impact rating.
We want to be upfront that to fund this we'll be slightly reducing the bonus and equity individual multipliers for Significant Impact and Moderate Impact ratings. It's important to note that Significant Impact will remain a strong rating — achieving it will still get you more than your target bonus.
The above changes are budget-neutral, and overall we're continuing to invest in comprehensive and highly competitive compensation and benefits.
These changes apply to the end-of-year reviews and 2026 compensation planning.
John Casey"

The Housing Board had set an upset price of 40 crore per acre, and the entire 7.8-acre site, situated in the heart of the Kukatpally Housing Board colony, was auctioned as a single parcel. India, Russia-led trade bloc to commence talks for FTA

NEW DELHI: India and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) signed the terms of reference to launch negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) in Moscow on Wednesday, a move that comes amid the US-India trade tensions. The EAEU includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Russian Federation. India signed an FTA with the UK and is in talks to stitch together a deal with the European Union. It is also working on a clutch of other FTAs with key trading partners, amid the tariff standoff with the US, and is also aiming to diversify into new markets. US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 50% tariff on goods imports from India, including a proposed 25% for purchasing crude oil from Russia. The terms of reference was signed by additional secretary in the commerce ministry Ajay Bhadoo, and deputy director, trade policy department, Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Mikhail Cherekaev, an official statement said. During his visit, Bhadoo also called on minister in charge of Trade, EEC, Andrei Slepnev. Both sides noted the growing trade turnover between India and the EAEU, which stood at $69 billion in 2024, registering a 7% increase over 2023. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She's 75 and Retiring - Her Handcrafted Jewelry Is 80% OFF The Heritage Journal Read More Undo With a combined GDP of $6.5 trillion, the proposed FTA is expected to expand market access for Indian exporters, support diversification into new sectors and geographies, enhance competitiveness against non-market economies and deliver benefits to MSMEs, the statement added. NMC Plans To Open Bus Depots For Pvt Operators, Mulls Hourly Parking Charges

1 2 Nagpur: In a move set to reshape city travel, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to allow private buses to operate from its depots located outside the city limits. The decision came after the traffic police barred the halt of such buses on the Inner Ring Road between 8am and 10pm to reduce congestion. Municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari, additional commissioner Vasumana Pant, and deputy commissioners Milind Meshram and Rajesh Bhagat, along with the transport department team, inspected depots at Khapri and Hingna on Wednesday. During the visit, officials dropped Hingna from consideration after finding that bus entry and turning inside the depot was problematic. Instead, attention shifted to Khapri and an alternative site near the New Airport Metro station, where vacant land is available. Officials noted that Khapri depot is adjacent to a police chowky on busy Wardha Road and has around three acres of land making it the largest and most viable option for private operators plying on Wardha Road. Besides this, a land parcel in front of New Airport Metro Station is also there, which is under MahaMetro. However, no representative of MahaMetro was present despite pre-intimation. Civic authorities plan to clear bushes and realign the depot space before finalising the arrangements. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo A follow-up meeting has been scheduled to take a final call on land use, responsibilities of agencies, and operational modalities. Chaudhari also directed the revenue department to explore levying parking charges on private operators on a per-hour basis, a move that could help NMC bridge its annual viability gap funding of over Rs150 crore. "Facilities will not be provided free of cost," officials emphasised. NMC has seven bus depots apart from Mor Bhavan, the main terminus for Aapli Bus services. These include Khapri, Hingna, Wadi, Lakadganj, Wathoda, Patwardhan Ground, and Koradi. Of these, Khapri, Koradi, and Wadi are considered the most feasible for private buses as they are located along national highways and outside city limits, making them more accessible for long-distance passengers. DCP (traffic) Lohit Matani earlier stated that traffic police communicated with NMC, Nagpur Metro Region Development Authority (NMRDA), and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) to identify designated pick-up and drop-off points for private buses. A traffic police survey highlighted the heavy daily movement of buses across several routes — 642 on Wardha–Yavatmal–Chandrapur, 190 on Amravati–Pune–Nashik, 78 on Koradi–Chhindwara, 296 on Jabalpur–Bhopal–Indore, 92 on Bhandara–Gondia–Chhattisgarh, and 308 on Brahmapuri–Gadchiroli via Umred Road. Authorities have stressed that private bus services should function only from depots outside city limits. Passengers will then be required to use the metro, taxis, autorickshaws, and other local transport to reach these hubs. Currently, NMC operates 470 buses under the Aapli Bus service, including 255 e-buses, 150 midi buses, 45 mini buses, and over 50 standard buses. Daily ridership touched 1.78 lakh, showing steady growth in demand for public transport. Officials believe that opening depots to private operators, while ensuring revenue through parking charges, can help streamline transport and ease congestion within city limits.
