Holger Rune Trains With Tennis Icon Andre Agassi Ahead Of US Open: WATCH

News184 days ago
Holger Rune's training with Andre Agassi provided valuable insights into the mindset of the eight-time Grand Slam champion, which he hopes will elevate his game.
World No. 9 Holger Rune says his brief training stint with Andre Agassi provided rare insight into the mindset of the eight-time Grand Slam champion: one that the Danish star hopes will help elevate his own game.
Rune, who burst onto the scene in 2022 with a stunning Masters title in Paris—where he defeated four top-10 players, including Novak Djokovic in the final—has struggled to maintain that momentum. Since that breakthrough, the 22-year-old has added only two more titles and has yet to progress beyond the quarterfinal stage at a Grand Slam.
With peers like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner now dominating the top tier of men's tennis, Rune sought fresh inspiration, linking up with American legend Agassi earlier this month for a three-day training session in Washington.
'It was insane. I've never met a guy who sees tennis that way, and I found it interesting," Rune told the Tennis Channel during the Canadian Open in Toronto.
Rune praised Agassi for simplifying the game in a way that immediately resonated with him.
'He makes things simple on the court. Sometimes tennis can be a difficult sport, and sometimes it can be a very easy sport. There's always a reason why it's this or that," he explained.
'Some of the advice he gave me was very helpful. To share those three days, for him to get a look at my game, it was just amazing. My coach Lars Christensen appreciated it too—they talked a little bit, and we're still in touch."
Learning from a Legend—Even Without Growing Up Watching Him
Although Rune was too young to witness Agassi's dominance in real time, he said studying the American's old matches online helped him appreciate his unique playing style.
'I've watched so many YouTube clips of him and how he was taking the ball early," Rune said.
'It was so clear to see how he was making life easy for himself on the court. It was a bit before my time, so I didn't grow up watching Andre. But to look back at how tennis was then was really interesting to see."
Rune recently defeated Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in Toronto and is set to face Alexandre Muller next as he fine-tunes his game ahead of the U.S. Open, scheduled for August 24 to September 7.

Mohammed Siraj emerged as India's hero in their narrow six-run victory against England during a thrilling fifth Test. England, chasing a target of 374, were bowled out for 367, with fast bowler Siraj taking 5-104, including a spectacular 3-9 spell on the final morning. This victory marks India's narrowest winning margin in a Test match. England, resuming on 339-6, lost four wickets for 28 runs on the final morning of a dramatic series. Outstanding paceman Siraj, the leading bowler on either side in this series, struck twice to remove Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton, reducing England to 354-8, 20 runs shy of victory. When injured England last man Chris Woakes came in to bat with his left arm strapped due to a shoulder injury, England still needed 17 runs for victory. Gus Atkinson hit a six off Siraj, bringing the target down to single figures. But Siraj sealed a superb series by bowling Atkinson (17), knocking over the batsman's off stump and sparking jubilant scenes among the India team and their supporters in south London. India were without Jasprit Bumrah at the Oval, having decided to play the world's top-ranked Test bowler in only three games of the five-match series. Bumrah achieved the top ranking during last week's drawn fourth Test at Old Trafford. Siraj, who played throughout the series, ended with 23 wickets at 32.43. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Both Bowlers Were Exceptional': England Pacer Lauds Mohammed Siraj-Prasidh Krishna

Last Updated: Stuart Broad has lauded Indian bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna for their joint effort in India's thrilling six-wicket victory over England. Former England pacer Stuart Broad has said that the Indian bowlers came in afresh and knew that one lengthy spell could do it for their team, as he lauded the joint effort from Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, which took India to a thrilling six-wicket win in the fifth Test at the Oval. The Indians began their comeback when they reduced England from 301/3 to 337/6 in their run chase of 374 in the final session on Day 4. In a conversation with Sky Sports after the game, Broad said that while many believed the early stumps on Day 4 disturbed India's momentum, it was the opposite from a bowler's perspective. 'The Indian bowlers freshened up and knew they had one big spell to get this. And when you are bowling for a Test win, there is no more energy inside your body than that and both bowlers were exceptional in what they did," Broad said. 'It had everything and was a fitting finale to what has been one of the greatest Test series I've seen and I think a fair result," Broad added. 'When we were walking off the ground last night at the end of Day 4, a lot of the social media were saying England will be at a big advantage with the heavy roller. However, how I thought about it from a bowler's point of view was, ' I get a nice sleep and I'll be fresher to hit this pitch hard and get more out of it," Broad said. Siraj starred for India with a five-for in the second innings, including three wickets on the fifth day. Siraj was the standout performer, delivering one of his finest performances under pressure. He grabbed nine wickets in the fifth Test, which India won by six runs and finished the series with 23 wickets. The Test series turned out to be one of the most intensely fought and drama-filled showdowns in recent times. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. He has cemented his position with powerful performances in films like Koi Mil Gaya, Jodhaa Akbar, Guzaarish, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Agneepath and Super 30, to name a few. Despite his stellar career, there are two films he regrets rejecting: Dil Chahta Hai and 3 Idiots. Interestingly, both films starred Aamir Khan as one of the protagonists.
