Jordan, WFP agreement to provide 'interest-free' loans to farmers, agri-projects — ACC
AMMAN — Director-General of the Agricultural Credit Corporation (ACC) Mohammad Dogan said that the ACC agreement signed with the World Food Programme (WFP), which was recently approved by the Council of Ministers, represents a "qualitative" step in supporting Jordan's small- and large-scale farmers to confront climate change challenges.
On its goals, Dogan said that this step aims to finance projects that integrate modern agricultural practices that contribute to achieving Jordan's food security and developing production chains, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Dogan added that the agreement, which aims to support and develop climate-resilient agriculture with a total value of JD3.5 million, seeks to enhance resilience of Jordan's farmers by providing modern agricultural practices that take into account "sustainable" agri-development.
The director-general said that the agreement mainly targets water-smart and water-saving agricultural activities, as well as crops with 'high' economic returns, primarily saffron cultivation and packaging projects.
Under the agreement, financing for two types of projects is secured, he said, adding that individual businesses will receive loans of up to JD10,000, while medium-sized agricultural enterprises' projects will get loans of up to JD70,000 interest-free, as the programme will pay the interest costs.
These projects is set to target the governorates of Mafraq, Jerash and Balqa, ensuring that support is directed to the areas, which are the "most vulnerable and most affected "by climate change, he pointed out.
Dogan noted that this cooperation would contribute to stimulating expansion of the use of smart agricultural technologies and alleviating the financial burdens on farmers, achieving resource sustainability, enhancing productivity and quality of local agricultural products, and addressing climate change consequences.

Committee Approves JD 930,000 in Rural Electricity Projects for 215 Sites The Higher Steering Committee for the Rural Fils has approved the list of homes and locations that will benefit from electricity connection through conventional power networks. The expansion comes after recent revisions to the criteria governing electricity access through the Rural Fils, allowing wider coverage and stronger support for marginalized populations. Hisham Al-Momani, Director of the Electricity and Rural Electrification Directorate at the Ministry, outlined the details: JD150,000 was allocated for a group of five homes outside zoning boundaries, JD155,000 for another group of three, and JD48,000 to connect individual homes using existing grid infrastructure. Additional funding includes JD 3,000 to help electrify homes of low-income families within organized areas, and JD 47,000 to supply power to livestock, poultry, and fish farms located in poverty pockets, part of the government's efforts to support agricultural production and boost self-reliance. A separate JD 20,000 was set aside to install lighting along roads leading to cemeteries, ensuring safe access for citizens during nighttime burials. The Committee also committed JD 300,000 to productive, industrial, and investment projects in unregulated and economically challenged areas, provided these initiatives create jobs for Jordanians and contribute to local development. Jordan-Syria trade exchange reach JD92.4 million in four months
Ammon News - Trade between Jordan and Syria reached JD92.4 million during the first four months of 2025, including JD72.1 million in exports and JD20.3 million in imports. The trade balance is in Jordan's favor, with a value of JD51.8 million, according to the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC). The ACC stated that Jordanian products currently capable of exporting to the Syrian market are iron, cement, insulation materials, paints, and electrical cables. In 2024, the volume of trade between the two nations totaled JD115.9 million, comprising JD55.1 million in exports and JD60.8 million in imports, resulting in a trade balance that favored Syria. Jordan exported to Syria last year a value of JD55,076 million, including food and chemical products, leather, live animals, and other products. Food industry exports ranked first, with a value of JD14,654 million, representing 26.6% of total exports, which amounted to JD55,076 million, the ACC noted. Regarding the most important imports from Syria, they were plant products "pistachios" and animal products "live sheep", while the total imports from Syria last year amounted to JD60,849 million.
