A police officer has been shot dead in rural Tasmania, the state's police force said. Officers attended a property in North Motton in Tasmania's north-west at around 11am on Monday. The force said a member of the public allegedly shot the officer as they approached the house. "Another police officer consequently discharged their firearm towards the alleged offender, who then surrendered to police," Tasmania Police said in a statement. The officer died at the scene, and the alleged offender was not seriously injured. The visit to the property was part of "routine duties", police said. A full police professional standards investigation is underway, and the coroner will also attend the scene.

Queensland teenager allegedly kidnapped, assaulted and had head shaved

A 19-year-old who was allegedly kidnapped and held captive for two days has been found by police in Queensland. The teenager was allegedly attacked and forced into a car on the corner of Sheridan Street and Charles Street in Cairns North on Friday, June 13, before being moved to a property where it is alleged she was further assaulted, including being hit with a weapon and having part of her head shaved with a razor. Police commenced an investigation on Saturday after the teenager was reported missing and a member of the public alerted police to the attack. A 34-year-old Townsville woman, Kaidii Dayl Ephaums, has been charged with 14 offences, including deprivation of liberty, torture and assault. Police found both women in a vehicle on Sheridan Street on Sunday afternoon. CCTV footage captured the moment officers approached the passenger side of a white car, and the teenager, dressed in a hoodie with the top of her head partially shaved, stepped out. She was taken to Cairns hospital and has since been released. The 34-year-old woman was taken into custody. 'It will be alleged the woman took the victim to a property and refused to let her leave,' Detective Inspector Cindy Searle said. 'The offending is quite simply something that's not acceptable.' The alleged victim has 'provided police with information about a series of assaults,' Detective Inspector Searle said. 'It has been a very distressing few days for her. We are offering her every support she can.' The 34-year-old woman faced court on Monday and was remanded into custody. She will face court again in August.

An investigation has been launched after a brawl on the sidelines of the Kincumber-Ourimbah game. Picture: Supplied The brawl was so serious that it forced play between the two sides to be paused for about five minutes. Rugby League Central Coast board chairman Nathan Waugh confirmed that an incident report had been filed and the matter had been referred to the NSWRL. 'We're aware of the incident, we have the footage that has been circulating and this has been passed on to NSW Rugby League,' he said. 'From that we expect code of conduct matters to be raised against individuals that are identified as being involved in the incident. At this stage it's an ongoing investigation.' He added: 'It's an ugly incident and we never want to see that at any rugby league game or any community level sport. It's unfortunate and ultimately we would expect that there would be consequences for this involved.' Both clubs have declined to comment while the investigation is ongoing. The brawl came amid heightened tensions on the field in the round nine clash. One player from each side had just been sent to the sin bin as a melee broke out on the field. Kincumber went on to win the game 24-20.
