Bhim Kohli death: 'Dad's killing won't drive us from our home'
The boy was sentenced to seven years in custody while the girl was given a three-year youth rehabilitation order and made subject to a six-month curfew, which Mrs Kohli said was "unanswerable"."In the last nine months, there has been a lot of talk between me and my mum because the incident happened literally on our doorstep," she said."So whenever you walk out the door, it's a constant reminder of what happened to dad."We've had these discussions about do we stay? Do we go?"The attack on Mr Kohli happened as he walked his dog, Rocky, in Franklin Park on 1 September last year. He died a day later in hospital.The boy racially abused Mr Kohli before slapping him in the face with a slider shoe, while the girl encouraged the assault and laughed as she filmed it on her phone.Neither can be named because of their ages.
Mrs Kohli said her neighbours had been "amazing" and "so supportive" in the difficult months since."And that's where we feel, will we get the same neighbours when you move away?" she said."It's the people that's keeping us there. It's the people and it's the memories."It is just the fact that all of my dad's memories are there."They will always be in our heart."
Despite this, Mrs Kohli feels there are questions to be answered in their community following her father's death.Earlier this month it was revealed that Mr Kohli had spoken to police just two weeks before his death after seeing another Asian man being assaulted by two white boys, who threw a large rock at him.Mrs Kohli added: "We need to call out whenever these issues are happening. We need to face it. And if we don't, it is just going to continue."Leicestershire Police said "organisational learning" to improve logging anti-social behaviour had been identified.The force added it had undertaken an investigation, reviewed by the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which did not identify any "misconduct or missed opportunities which could have prevented Mr Kohli's death".

Another 60 people to be prosecuted for ‘showing support for Palestine Action'
A further 60 people will be prosecuted for 'showing support for the proscribed terrorist group Palestine Action', the Metropolitan Police have said. The force said this follows the arrest of more than 700 people since the group was banned on July 7, including 522 in central London last Saturday. More prosecutions are expected in the coming weeks, and arrangements have been put in place 'that will enable us to investigate and prosecute significant numbers each week if necessary', the Met said. Palestine Action was proscribed in July after the group claimed responsibility for damage to jets at RAF Brize Norton and was also linked to allegations of a serious assault on staff and police officers at a business premises in south Gloucestershire, the force said. Last weekend in central London 15,000 people demonstrated peacefully in support of the Palestinian cause with only one arrest, police said, adding that 522 were arrested 'for an illegal show of support for Palestine Action on the same day'. Stephen Parkinson, director of public prosecutions, said: 'The decisions that we have announced today are the first significant numbers to come out of the recent protests, and many more can be expected in the next few weeks. We are ready to make swift decisions in all cases where arrests have been made. 'The public has a democratic right to protest peacefully in this country, and I understand the depth of feeling around the horrific scenes in Gaza. 'However, Palestine Action is now a proscribed terrorist organisation and those who have chosen to break the law will be subject to criminal proceedings under the Terrorism Act. 'When protest conduct crosses the line from lawful activity into criminality, we have a duty to enforce the law. ' People should be clear about the real-life consequences for anyone choosing to support Palestine Action. A terrorism conviction can severely impact your life and career – it can restrict your ability to travel overseas and work in certain professions. 'I urge people to think very carefully about their actions at protests. Anyone who chooses to disobey the law will have to face the consequences.'

Man, 45, charged with murdering 73-year-old after woman found dead with a serious head injury
A MAN, 45, has been charged with murder after a woman, 73, was found dead. Police were called to a property on Russia Lane, in Bethnal Green, London, at 9pm on Thursday. Sufia Khatun was found with a serious head injury and paramedics sadly pronounced her dead at the scene. The Met Police detained 45-year-old Mizanur Rahman, who was known to the victim. He will appear at Thames Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with murder. Ms Khatun's next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Det Ch Supt Brittany Clarke, who leads the Central East Command Unit, said: "Our team of officers and forensic specialists are working at pace to establish the full circumstances that led to this woman's tragic death. "This is believed to be an isolated incident, with no wider risk to the general public. "However, residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days." A Met Police spokesperson said: "A man has been charged with murder after the death of a woman in Bethnal Green. "Mizanur Rahman, 45 (14.6.1980), will appear at Thames Magistrates Court on Saturday, 16 August after being charged on Friday, 15 August. "Officers were called by the London Ambulance Service to an address on Russia Lane at 21:00hrs on Thursday, 14 August. "A woman was found with a serious head injury and pronounced dead at the scene. She has since been identified as 73-year-old Sufia Khatun. "Her next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Boy, 17, who filmed body of dead man, 51, as others giggled before sharing the clip online is sentenced - as police slam 'inexcusable' behaviour
A 17-year-old boy who filmed a 'hero' grandfather as he lay dying on the street before sharing the video on social media has avoided jail. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, recorded Paul Lawrence, 51, after he was killed in the early hours of January 28 last year. Others could be heard laughing and joking in the background of the video that ended up capturing the tragic last moment's of Mr Lawrence's life. The boy pleaded guilty to sending a grossly offensive, indecent or menacing message at Worthing Youth Court, West Sussex, yesterday. He also admitted possessing cannabis and was given a 12-month Youth Referral Order following the incident on Gladonian Road in Littlehampton, West Sussex. It comes as police slammed the 17-year-old's 'inexcusable' behaviour that 'compounded' the grief felt by Mr Lawrence's family. Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell from Sussex Police said: 'In the video, voices could be heard laughing and joking during what would prove to be the tragic last moment's of Paul's life. 'The video was then circulated by the defendant to other people on social media. 'This sort of behaviour is inexcusable and has compounded the grief felt by Paul's family at this most distressing of times.' Another 17-year-old boy, from Bognor Regis, has been charged with manslaughter. He is scheduled to appear in court again on October 6 for a pre-trial preparation hearing. Paying tribute, Mr Lawrence's siblings, John and Shelley, said: 'Paul was the kindest man that would help anyone. 'He would light up the darkest of rooms with his smile and cheeky laugh. 'Our hearts are not only broken but they're totally ripped apart.' His daughters, Louise and Josephine, also released a statement through Sussex Police describing their father as 'full of happiness' and 'loved by all who knew him'. They said: 'He was a family man who devoted his life to his children and grandchildren, and he was immensely proud of everything they achieved. 'Paul was a true representation of what every man should be or should aspire to be. Kind, generous, and always laughing or smiling with the most reassuring smiley eyes.
