Former Patriots QB re-signs with Chiefs on one-year deal
The Kansas City Chiefs signed former New England Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe to a one-year deal, according to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Friday.
Zappe was cut in August 2024, ending his tenure in New England. He was signed by the Chiefs to their practice squad as an ensuing move, before being signed by the Cleveland Browns to their active roster in October.
He started in the Browns' season finale against the Baltimore Ravens and threw for 170 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Now, he'll join a defending AFC Champion Chiefs team with Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew on the quarterback depth chart.
Zappe seems like a good bet as a practice squad stash for the Chiefs.
At the very least, it would give him an opportunity to continue learning the game behind the scenes from Mahomes and Chiefs coach Andy Reid.

Chiefs Could Make Blockbuster Trade for 49ers Receiver
Chiefs Could Make Blockbuster Trade for 49ers Receiver originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of a loss in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles this past season, so they will be looking to redeem themselves in 2025. Advertisement And making a trade for a big offensive upgrade is something that the team could consider before the start of the season. In a recent video posted by Bleacher Report, Mitch Milani talks about 10 potential blockbuster trades that the Chiefs should make to get Mahomes his fourth ring. One of the trades he talks about would have Kansas City sending a second-round pick in 2026 to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. "I just feel like he would fit because he can do everything well," Malani said. "You can interchangeably play him with Worthy and Rice, and he would definitely take their offensive over the top. For the 49ers, I think this trade would be about getting the drama out of their room." There were a lot of rumors surrounding Aiyuk last season on whether he would be traded or not, and that kind of thing can be draining for a team. If the Niners decide they want to be rid of that, the Chiefs could be a potential trade suitor. Advertisement Aiyuk was injured a decent portion of this past season, but his last full season in 2023 shows that he can get the job done. He racked up 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, which led him to named Second Team All-Pro. Worth noting - and maybe ruining this sort of idea now: Aiyuk is likely to start the year on IR. The Niners traded away Deebo Samuel earlier this offseason, so their receiver room is a bit thinner. But for the right price, the Chiefs might be able to entice San Francisco to make the move. Chiefs React to Travis Kelce's Offseason Appearance With George Kittle originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NFL season may still be a few months out, but Travis Kelce isn't waiting around to make an impact. While most players are getting into their offseason routines, Kelce is already back in action just not in the way fans might expect. Advertisement This time, he's trading the playbook for a whiteboard, stepping into a mentor's role alongside fellow tight end George Kittle. Back in Kansas City, the Chiefs couldn't be prouder, showing their full support for their star's latest appearance off the field alongside 49ers tight end George Kittle and current broadcaster Greg Olsen. Now in its fifth year, Tight End University has become a standout offseason tradition, thanks to the efforts of Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Greg Olsen. What started as a way to bring tight ends together has grown into a unique platform where NFL newcomers and seasoned veterans can connect, learn and grow as a community. Taylor Swift didn't just swing by the Tight End University afterparty she stole the show. After photobombing Travis Kelce earlier in the week, she showed up at the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville on Tuesday night and performed 'Shake It Off' live for the "Tight Ends & Friends" concert. It was her first performance since the Eras Tour wrapped. Aaron Rodgers Opens Up About DK Metcalf Friendship
Aaron Rodgers Opens Up About DK Metcalf Friendship originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Aaron Rodgers made the quiet part of his one-year deal certain Tuesday during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Rodgers revealed that this will be his final season and he will end his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Advertisement At this point with his legacy established Rodgers faces little pressure heading into 2025. Sure there is some expectation for him and the Steelers to show some fight in a loaded AFC, but the title aspirations are no longer present for the future Hall of Famer. So why not enjoy this final campaign? That does not mean taking his foot off the gas for the coming months, but it does point to Rodgers surrounding himself with teammates whom he shares some camaraderie. Surprisingly, he has found that in the span of just a few months in wide receiver DK Metcalf. The two spent a portion of the offseason working out together in California and caused Rodgers to gain a profound respect for his future teammate. "D.K. is a lead-by-example guy," Rodgers said on McAfee's show. "He's a big reason I'm in Pittsburgh as well. Conversations that we had, and just the kind of person that he is. At the start of the year, I didn't really know DK at all. Advertisement "He's like, 'I work out at six a.m. every day.' I'm like, okay, this guy has discipline, this guy has a drive..." Metcalf's engine not only helps him go individually but also drives the players around him to match that intensity. "He is a solid dude, and he leads by example. The way he practices. The room goes how the top dog goes, and when DK catches the ball and finishes 60 yards to the endzone, it makes everyone else want to do the same thing." Given Rodgers age and struggles in recent seasons there is plenty of skepticism of how this experiment will benefit the Steelers over the coming months. However, this fascinating Rodgers-Metcalf partnership provides some reason to believe this will work out in favor of Pittsburgh. Advertisement Rodgers has played with some extremely talented pass catchers throughout his career but none of them possess the same athletic package that Metcalf delivers week to week. Pittsburgh's success hinges on more than just this partnership filling the stat sheet, but a translation of the two's offseason collaboration onto the field will only benefit the Steelers' campaign.
