Pair of Southern California lottery players win millions with Scratchers
A couple of Southern California lottery players are now millionaires after they struck gold on 'Instant Prize Crossword' Scratchers games.
According to the California Lottery, the first of two wins comes from Indio where a woman, Candice Stephens, was a regular Scratchers player. She'd won as much as $2,000 before, but this win was a little different.
On her way home from work one day, she stopped by Sherman's Liquor & Food to grab a Scratchers game.
'I had to grab my glasses because I didn't have my glasses on,' Stephens said, according to the California Lottery. 'Wait, is that $2,000?'
She called her son into the room to make sure. But no, it wasn't $2,000 — it was $2 million.
Stephens, who is expecting a grandchild in the near future, said she plans to spend the money on a house, retirement preparations and on her future granddaughter.
Meanwhile in Palmdale, Shawntwayne Cannon also pulled off a $2 million win on the same game.
According to the California Lottery, six $2 million prizes remain on the Instant Prize Crossword game.
