Man found passed out behind the wheel arrested on DUI, drug charges: deputies
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA)– A man was arrested for DUI and possession of narcotics after deputies found him passed out behind his driver's seat, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
On April 18, deputies responded to a report of a man passed out behind the wheel of his car in a Subway parking lot in Palm Coast. The man was identified as 37-year-old John Perez.

Body camera video shows the deputy approach him, checking to see if Perez was having a medical episode.
'We got a call in regards of you to check you out and make sure you're okay. What's going on today?'
Perez said he was having a bad day. The deputy asked him if he remembered how he got to the Subway parking lot.
'Before I got to Dunkin, I felt really like light-headed, so I stopped at Subway to grab, and I asked them for some water, and I got back in the car, and here I am, and I still never made it to Dunkin,' said Perez.

The deputy then conducted a DUI investigation, which led to his arrest.
While searching Perez's car, deputies found multiple needles in the back seat, including one with a brown liquid in the syringe, later identified as heroin.
Perez told officials he did not have any narcotics or weapons. After a search at the jail, a white pill, identified as Lorazepam, was found in his sock.
'Bringing drugs or anything illegal into the Green Roof Inn will earn you another felony arrest on top of the charges that brought you to jail in the first place,' said Sheriff Rick Staly. 'Unfortunately for this guy, he either tried to lie to deputies or forgot about the pill in his sock. Regardless of the reason, let this be a lesson that bringing drugs into the jail will not be tolerated and our detention deputies will always find them.'
Perez was charged with a DUI, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, introduction of contraband into a correctional institution and possession of a harmful new legend drug without a prescription, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
Perez is being held on a $4,500 bond.

Garden City man gets 13 Years for racketeering, murder
FINNEY COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — A Garden City man has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison for leading a multi-year racketeering operation that included drug trafficking, theft, and the 2020 murder of Alexander 'AJ' Perez, whose body has never been found. On May 27, Oscar Corrales Jr. was sentenced to 156 months — or 13 years — in the Kansas Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to engaging in a pattern of racketeering activity. Judge Rebecca J. Faurot handed down the sentence as part of a plea agreement between Corrales and prosecutors. No charges for officers in shooting of Haysville man Investigators say Corrales was at the center of a criminal operation that spanned several years and counties, involving the systematic theft of cars, tools, electronics, and the distribution of methamphetamine and fentanyl. According to court records, Corrales and his associates would steal vehicles and then either switch their vehicle identification numbers using wrecked cars with clean titles or dismantle the stolen vehicles for parts. Prosecutors said Corrales murdered Perez to protect his illicit operation. He reportedly accused Perez of stealing property that Corrales had previously stolen from others. Perez was reported missing in December 2020, and authorities believe he was killed around Dec. 6 of that year. Despite an extensive investigation, his remains have never been recovered. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation continues to seek information about the location of Perez's body. Anyone with knowledge is urged to contact the KBI. Corrales was originally arrested in December 2023 while already in custody on unrelated charges. For more Kansas news, click here. Sheriff: Nearly a dozen gang members tied to multiple shootings arrested in Baton Rouge drug bust, 1 at-large
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Nearly one dozen people allegedly tied to a gang in Baton Rouge have been arrested after a multi-agency investigation that spanned two months. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office (EBRSO) says during April and May 2025, its Gang Intelligence and Enforcement Unit started an extensive investigation into a criminal street gang known as the 'Vultures.' According to EBRSO, members of the 'Vultures' are suspected of being responsible for numerous shootings in and around the Baton Rouge area. Coroner identifies man killed in Baton Rouge shooting Agents identified several members and several associates of the group, collecting hundreds of hours of surveillance on the gang. Authorities then determined that the gang was involved in a large-scale marijuana distribution operation. While under investigation, members of the gang were involved in a police chase in Texas. Other gang members were able to retrieve the gun but were stopped and arrested once they arrived back in Baton Rouge. Four members were arrested in connection with the incident and later released on bond. Deputies identified 11 residences that the gang used to facilitate their marijuana trafficking operation. Agents secured search warrants for the locations, as well as several banks used by the gang to hide their money. Police: Fatal Golden Valley crash not road rage, but charges still pending
Police: Fatal Golden Valley crash not road rage, but charges still pending originally appeared on Bring Me The News. Homicide charges are pending against a driver accused of fatally striking a man as he exited his vehicle in Golden Valley late Friday, according to authorities. The Golden Valley Police Department's investigative unit has submitted the case to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office for consideration of criminal vehicular homicide charges, Asst. Police Chief Rudy Perez confirmed Monday afternoon. The fatal incident happened shortly before midnight Friday on Highway 100 and escalated on Duluth Street, police said. While initially described by police as a "road rage incident," Perez said the investigation is not considered a road rage investigation and "road rage" was only used in the police statement because of the initial call officers received. Perez confirmed the victim was struck by a driver as he exited his vehicle and all parties involved in the incident knew each other. Multiple suspects were detained in connection with the incident and taken to North Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment, along with witnesses, police said. According to the Star Tribune, family has identified the victim as 42-year-old Michael Lawver. His sister, Carrie Remiarz, wrote on GoFundMe that her brother appeared to be driving erratically before he got out of his vehicle because he was "getting punched in the face by the guy in the truck with him." Remiarz alleges her brother was purposely hit and run over by the driver who is now jailed in connection with criminal vehicular homicide. Lawver was "full of life and he finally got his life right" before his death, she wrote. "I still can't comprehend the fact that my brother is gone." This story was originally reported by Bring Me The News on Jun 2, 2025, where it first appeared.
