Kennywood brings back Jeeters mascot
Kennywood is bringing a nostalgic mascot back to the park, and even before his big debut, he's making quite the impression on social media.
Jeeters, a giant fluffy pink mascot wearing yellow overalls and a tall blue hat, has taken over the park's social media accounts, announcing his arrival by saying, "marketing team on vacay…1st day back at the Wood & I have 2 learn social. plz help. what you wanna to see?"

A request for aerial views from one commenter was met with the reply, "how tall do u think i am?" When asked for an update on Kennywood Junction, Jeeters said, "they r workin' on da railroad."
There were also plenty of requests for updates on the Steel Curtain, which was closed last season for "an extensive modification project." But Jeeters didn't quite seem to understand the assignment. He posted a photo of himself holding a gold and brown curtain, writing, "yinz asked 4 it. ur curtain update." Jeeters got some boos in the comment section, to which he responded, "u no like my content?"

Jeeters was a regular at the park in the 70s and 80s before he disappeared. He told Talk Pittsburgh's Boaz Frankel that the last thing he remembers is standing in line for a doubleheader cone. Suddenly, he was waking up in the Golden Nugget's freezer, wondering where the Log Jammer went.
Today's visitors may recognize him from Jeeters' Pub, a bar that opened last year and serves draft beer, charcuterie boards, wings, snacks and other pub snacks.
Jeeters will be hanging out around the park all season. Kennywood is opening early this season on 412 Day, April 12.

Sandcastle Waterpark postpones opening for another week after heavy rainfall, some flooding
Amid ongoing chilly weather, Sandcastle Waterpark has delayed its opening again. The park has been forced to delay its opening multiple times this season because of the weather. Most recently, opening day was supposed to be June 1, but Sandcastle announced on social media Saturday that it now plans to open on June 7. The delay comes after recent heavy rainfall and minor flooding at the park. Anyone looking for a day out on June 1 can get into Kennywood for free if they have a Sandcastle Season Pass for 2025, the park said. Sandcastle was originally scheduled to open on May 25. Kennywood officially acquired by Dollywood's parent company
Kennywood and Dollywood are now owned by the same company. Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation finalized its acquisition of Palace Entertainment's 24 U.S. attractions, including Kennywood, Sandcastle and Idlewild & SoakZone. The company now employs 22,000 people and operates 49 properties that attract nearly 20 million guests each year. "Our purpose has carried us through both bright seasons and challenging ones—and it will continue to guide us as we move into this next chapter," Chris Herschend, a board chair and third-generation owner, said in a news release. "We're focused on doing what's right for the business, our hosts, and the communities we're honored to be part of. This process will take time, and we know we will not get everything perfect, but we are committed to listening, communicating and continuously improving." Herschend says this season will be about "listening, learning, and building relationships." Guests can expect the same from Kennywood and other parks as Herschend focuses on its employees first. Herschend says it's the largest family-held themed attractions company. Kennywood was a family business for more than 100 years until Palace Entertainment bought it in 2007. After that deal, the park got rid of rides like the Turnpike and Log Jammer to make way for attractions like the Sky Rocket and Steel Curtain. After the Herschend deal was announced in March, many Pittsburghers expressed hope for the park's future. They said they hope the new owners move the park forward while still keeping some of its historic Pittsburgh charm.

Kennywood to open the Steel Curtain rollercoaster to the public on Saturday morning
At long last, Kennywood's thrilling rollercoaster, The Steel Curtain, reopens this weekend. Out of commission for a year, Kennywood says the Steel Curtain will be ready to return to action just in time for Memorial Day weekend. "The anticipation is building, we can't wait to put riders right here in these seats, really looking for that at 11:30," said Kennywood's Communications Director Lynsey Winters. "It's really going to be a great grand opening ceremony, we'll have some elected officials here, we'll have some current and former Steelers players here, and Miss Pennsylvania. It's going to be a huge party." With Memorial Day Weekend marking the unofficial start of summer, it's also the beginning of the busiest season at Pittsburgh's flagship theme park. "We're open every single day beginning today through the end of August," Winters said. "We have Bites & Pints starting this weekend, we have our new stunt show starting this weekend, so it's really going to be an action-packed summer season." With the much-anticipated opening set for Saturday morning, Winters told KDKA-TV said those looking forward to finally hopping aboard the Steel Curtain, arrive early and get in line, because it's expected to be in high demand. Tickets and season passes can be purchased on Kennywood's website. Coaster enthusiasts get a first look at the revamped Steel Curtain A group of coaster enthusiasts got some preview rides on Thursday as the first of the Steel Curtain's cars climbed the track, launching riders at speeds faster than Fast Willie Parker. "Yeah, it was pretty fast. It was pretty scary," said coaster enthusiast Tim Buck. "Of all the steel coasters I've ridden all over the world, I can honestly say, there is none, anything like this one," said Bill Linkenheimer of the American Coaster Enthusiasts of Western Pennsylvania. The ride, now set to open on Saturday morning, underwent nearly a year of changes following closures. Steel Curtain gets revamped and updated In 2024, the park said the ride would be shut down for the whole season for modifications. During that time, the park said it worked with third-party engineers and the ride's manufacturers to come up with a long-term solution to increase its longevity. The park also shut down multiple times during the 2023 season. The ride had reopened in July 2023, and shortly after, the park announced it would close once again. However, despite all of that, it was alleged that Kennywood misled season pass holders a year ago, advertising the ride while potentially knowing the ride would not open for the 2024 season. Kennywood's past lawsuit The lawsuit in 2024 alleged Kennywood and its parent company knew the Steel Curtain would be closed but did not disclose this to the public while selling passes that season. "I understand that it may be one ride at this point, but that's a flagship attraction for the park," said Attorney John A. Biedrzycki. "It has the world's tallest inversion of any rollercoaster. If you're going to take the big, marquee attraction out of the equation, you are diminishing the value of what these people paid for." Kennywood and its parent company, Festival Fun Park,s did not comment about the legal dispute.
