William greets FA Cup final players in bitter-sweet moment ahead of key role

Prince William greeted players on the pitch before sitting down to watch the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium in London.
It's a bitter-sweet moment for the Prince of Wales as Crystal Palace cemented their position in the final against Manchester City after a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, the club he proudly supports. Later, William, dressed in a smart navy suit with a navy and pink striped tie, will present the coveted trophy to this weekend's victors.
William was photographed shaking hands with Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace, Erling Haaland of Manchester City, Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and Manchester City's Spanish manager Pep Guardiola before singing the national anthem.
The prince became the patron of the Football Association last summer after a lengthy 18-year tenure as its president, stepping into the shoes once filled by his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II. In previous years, William has been joined by his football-mad son, Prince George, 11.
Both father and son are keen Aston Villa supporters, with William, 42, often spotted at FA Cup Finals, including last year's match between Man City and Man United. He took along George, who got the chance to meet Man City star Jack Grealish and legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Last year, William also took George to watch Aston Villa play against Lille in the first leg of the Europa Conference League quarter-final. George wore a Villa-branded scarf, and the duo were spotted cheering and applauding for their team when they secured a 2-1 win.
The young royal has also appeared at numerous high-profile England matches, including the Euro final in 2020 and last year's heart-wrenching Euro final defeat to Spain in Berlin.
Noting the princes' love for the sport, Mike Tindall previously revealed to The Telegraph:"George loves his football. I've played numerous times in the garden with him. He's passionate about Aston Villa, too. Wherever he is, he'll sit down and watch that game."
Williamfell in love with Villa after being taken to matches by family friends and has said he now posts anonymously on fan forums.
During an interview with the Sun newspaper in March, he said: 'With the camaraderie among the fans and the chanting and the singing, I just felt like I belonged there.'
He added: 'I like going on the forums, I can be on there for ages. I listen to what other fans have to say and give them my opinions. I get quite into it, definitely. It's important to have that debate.'

The act landed him with a 10-second penalty, dropping him to 10th place, dealing a major blow to his title chances. He was also punished with three penalty points on his licence, which leaves him just one point away from a race ban. As he watched the incident in the cooldown room after the race, Norris, who finished second, cheekily quipped: "I've done that before... in Mario Kart!" However, ahead of round 10 in Montreal, Norris has spoken of his respect for Verstappen and even defended the four-time world champion's actions. He told the BBC:"I don't think he's done anything untoward towards me. "He's raced against me very, very toughly, as he has the right to do. He's made my life very, very tough at times. And he has the right to do that. "I've said it many times, I have a lot of respect for Max. The driver he is, the person he is, what he stands for all of the time. And what he's achieved, his four world championships. That's four more than me, and he's had a lot more race wins than me. "I admire those stats, those performances. But at the same time, everyone does what they believe is best. Everyone does what they believe is right. And they race for themselves. "Some may be more aggressive than others. But everyone has flaws. I have them. Maybe he has them. I race in the aggressive way I believe is correct, and he does the same. The stewards are the ones who decide what is right and wrong." Norris explained that taking a more cautious approach can sometimes be the best option, especially against somebody like Verstappen, who is renowned for his uncompromising style when racing other drivers. "When you're racing for wins, championships, against the best in the world, you can never expect things to be easy," he added. "You learn in go-karting that you can't at all easily overtake around the outside. "That is like rule number one, but it can be done and it will be done. The number one goal for us is always to finish. Sometimes, when you try too hard, things can go wrong. You might end up not finishing the race, even though you might be in the right, so sometimes you've got to take the safer approach."

Arsenal dealt blow as dream target Nico Williams responds to transfer approach
Arsenal have seen their chances of signing Athletic Bilbao superstar Nico Williams take a hit after the winger was reported to have confirmed interest in a move elsewhere Nico Williams has told Bayern Munich he is open to joining them in a blow to Arsenal hopes. Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of the Athletic Bilbao winger and any plan to get a deal over the line has now only been made more difficult. Vincent Kompany's side have entered the running to land the star with Bayern chiefs Max Eberl and Christoph Freund holding talks with Williams' representatives. The Bundesliga giants have already missed out on Florian Wirtz this summer and have turned their attention to the Spain international, according to Sky Germany. Bayern are set to see space open up in their squad with the exit of Leroy Sane. The former Manchester City ace knocked back a move to the Saudi Pro League but travelled to Turkey on Wednesday ahead of a switch to Galatasaray on a free transfer. To be successful, Bayern will need to stump up Williams' €58 million (£48.1m) release clause to prise him away from Bilbao. But it is the Basque star's salary that could prove most prohibitive. Mirror Football understands that the 22-year-old wants to be paid more than £300,000-a-week to make him one of the bigger earners in Europe. That figure itself made a move difficult for Arsenal, while Barcelona, who have also been heavily linked with Williams, saw their plans to sign the player damaged by the demands. Athletic Bilbao have not given up hope of retaining their talisman's services either however. Reports in Spain claim that the La Liga side will offer an increase in salary and an immediate release clause should he extend his deal until 2027. After seeing Williams turn down multiple transfers away from the club in the past, the Basque side do not think its implausible to happen again. Athletic will hope their qualification for the Champions League proves helpful to their cause. Williams finished this season with 11 goals and seven assists for Bilbao after truly breaking out in 2024 with an impressive campaign as Spain won the Euros. Arsenal have long admired the winger but have been less keen to take on his wage demands. His current club are adamant they want to retain Williams' services over cashing in however. "I believe we have a winning and interesting project for everyone, and Nico is part of that project, just like many other players," Bilbao president Jon Uriarte told Spanish outlet El Correo. "The project becomes easier if we keep our players - and I believe Nico and the rest of the squad have a very exciting year ahead." Speaking after he decided to remain with Bilbao last summer, Williams said: 'Many teams want you, I've had many offers to do things that another player would have done, but I'm happy here, Bilbao is my home. My heart is red and white." Though he hinted that may be a temporary situation when he added: "I had a talk with my parents and my brother, and we decided it was best to stay for another year.'

David Moyes learned of OBE at grandson's nativity play
Moyes, 62, had not been checking the post because his mother-in-law was in poor health. The former Manchester United and West Ham boss was formally made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by avid football fan the Prince of Wales during a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. Reflecting on when he learned of the honour, in December, the former Celtic and Preston player told the PA news agency: 'I was actually at my grandson's nativity and I'd got a call from the Home Office. 'My mother-in-law wasn't well, she was dying at the time, and we hadn't opened up the mail for a wee while – you know, we'd been concentrating on my mother-in-law. I can sometimes get quite a lot of phone calls which you don't always believe. 'I went back, we checked, and I've got to say it was a big moment for both me and my wife. It was emotional.' Moyes was in charge of West Ham from 2017-2018 and then 2019-2024, the highlight of his second stint coming when he guided the Hammers to 2023 Europa Conference League glory – their first major trophy in 43 years. He suspected his success at the London club was a key part of him making the New Year Honours list. 'I had said that I thought his side were doing remarkably well.' 'He takes his sons, which is great – I think in many ways it shows that the royal family are very much part of the people as well and want to do normal things in life.' Moyes has overseen the third-most Premier Leagues matches as a manager, behind Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.
