Chelsea make Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers top transfer target and will push boat out for £80m-rated England star
CHELSEA have made Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers their top target for the remainder of the transfer window. Villa boss Unai Emery is also keen on being reunited with Blues striker Nicolas Jackson after working with him at Villarreal. 3 3 3 New world champions Chelsea have already spent more than £130million on adding Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens to their array of forward options. But they are ready to push the boat out to bring in England star Rogers, who is valued at £80m or more. A partial-swap deal involving Jackson is NOT on the cards because financial rules make separate transfers more attractive. Villa would love to find a way to stay within Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules and Uefa regulations without selling Rogers at all. But if the Midlanders are unable to bring in decent fees for other bankable stars like Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez and Leon Bailey, they could be forced to cash in on their prime asset. Rogers, 22, cost only £15m when he joined the club from Middlesbrough in February 2024. But his value has skyrocketed after he emerged as one of England's brightest young talents. Rogers scored eight goals and provided 11 assists last season in the Premier League, starred in Villa's thrilling Champions League campaign and won his first four senior England caps. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK It is claimed that a Villa bid for Jackson would trigger an immediate formal offer from Chelsea for Rogers. But sources indicate that the saga is more likely to continue into August as both clubs juggle their money. Hilarious moment Trump gets caught inside Chelsea's trophy celebrations as Cole Palmer dances next to beaming Don Chelsea and Villa were fined by Uefa earlier this month for breaching financial rules. Chelsea's punishment also included restrictions on registering new players for their squad for next season's Champions League unless they could balance their transfer books. The Blues need to make significant sales in order to be allowed to field Pedro, Delap, Gittens and other arrivals - let alone further signings. But Villa are arguably under greater pressure to raise big money in order to avoid breaching Premier League rules and incurring further fines from Uefa. The failure to qualify for the Champions League will hit their 2025/6 income hard. Villa are yet to make a major signing and if they want to reinforce their squad in other areas, they may have to sell Rogers - and perhaps reinvest some of the proceeds in Jackson.

Man United legend Teddy Sheringham calls out Marcus Rashford's 'SOUL-DESTROYING' behaviour and insists academy graduate 'doesn't deserve' potential Barcelona move
Treble winner Teddy Sheringham does not believe Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford deserves to join Barcelona after what he feels has been a 'soul-destroying' episode. The 27-year-old is on the lookout for a new club having spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa after falling out with boss Ruben Amorim and admitting he was 'ready for a new challenge'. Rashford is among five players to have informed United they wish to explore a future away from Old Trafford, where he came through the academy and scored 138 goals in 426 first-team appearances. The England international, who has lost the number 10 shirt to summer signing Matheus Cunha, is attracting interest from Barcelona and former striker Sheringham admits he finds the whole situation unpalatable. 'If you assess where Marcus Rashford is at as a professional footballer, you strive as a youngster to get to the very top and play for clubs like Manchester United, and when you're there, you appreciate it,' the ex-United player told Sky Bet. 'You don't throw it away and say you want to leave. Rashford has been training during the off-season after being informed that he should look for a new side 'I find the whole episode very soul-destroying, compared to the way I was back in the day and how I strove to get the privilege to play for such a huge football club. 'To hear someone talking the way he is talking, saying he wants out - I didn't like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doing that at Arsenal, I thought it was soul-destroying, and I hope Rashford doesn't get the move that he's hankering for. 'From my perspective, if you go from Manchester United to Barcelona, that's a step up that he hasn't deserved.' Rashford is joined by Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia in searching for a new home as Amorim looks to rebuild a side which stumbled home into 15th place in the Premier League last term. United have made their stance on the quintet clear, which Sheringham believes has hurt their negotiating position as their transfer business has 'stagnated' as they seek to offload players to help aid additions. 'It's very easy to spend money on players, but it's hard to recoup it,' he said. 'It seems quiet, but I bet there's lots going on behind the scenes at Manchester United. Other clubs know United's position. 'They've made it known that they're looking to sell around five players, which signals to other clubs to make them ridiculous offers. 'I would assume that's what football clubs are doing around Europe, and Manchester United are turning them down at the moment. 'The longer that goes on, I reckon those offers might be a little less ridiculous, but United want these players off the books - they've made their bed and they've got to lie in it. 'They'll probably take anything from a quarter to a fifth of their asking price for some of them.'

Goldbridge On United's Goalkeeping Future as Amorim Eyes Emi Martinez
Why Emi Martinez Could Be Key to Man United's Revival Under Ruben Amorim As Manchester United continue to limp through another turbulent summer window, fans are clinging to shreds of hope. One such hope, discussed in detail by The United Stand's Mark Goldbridge in a recent podcast, revolves around a bold move for Emi Martinez, with Ruben Amorim seen as the man to lead that change. With transfers stalling and optimism draining, the idea of bringing in the Aston Villa goalkeeper has sparked rare positivity. Martinez, Amorim and the Future of Man United Goldbridge was clear in his frustrations about the state of the rebuild and what it would take to give him belief again. 'From this point, if we could get Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez and Mbeumo, and we've got Cunha, I'll take that. At least it gives me something to go into the new season with,' he said. For a fanbase used to hearing transfer promises fall apart, this was more than a wishlist, it was a cry for hope. Advertisement Crucially, the idea of signing Emi Martinez is not idle speculation. 'It's a very credible source. It says we're in discussions with Aston Villa and we're making a move for him,' Goldbridge confirmed. That would align with the managerial plans of Ruben Amorim, who, according to The United Stand, is keen to replace Andre Onana. 'Amorim wants to replace Onana and he should be replacing Onana,' Goldbridge added, referencing the club's internal stance during the March international break. Timing, Mentality and Experience Goldbridge believes now is the time to strike. 'Now's the perfect time because Onana's injured,' he noted. 'Any genuine ambitious football club would replace Onana.' The issue, as always with Man United, lies in execution. 'I just can't see us dropping the money for Martinez without moving Onana on. I just can't see it,' he admitted. And yet, Goldbridge sees Martinez as a potential game-changer. 'He has the aura. He has the mentality. He has the experience and he has the ability. I think it's a very, very intelligent move if we make it.' Reflecting on United's history of failed keepers post-Schmeichel, he called Martinez's potential signing 'a big, big move.' Advertisement This wouldn't be United's first attempt at replacing an underperforming goalkeeper, but in Goldbridge's eyes, it would be one of their smartest if pulled off. 'I remember Schmeichel being replaced by Bosnich, Villa goalkeeper. It was a nightmare… Then Van der Sar came along,' he recalled. The implication is clear: Emi Martinez could be the next Van der Sar, not the next Bosnich. Amorim's Role and United's Uncertain Direction The mention of Ruben Amorim is more than incidental. The Portuguese coach, viewed by many fans as a beacon of tactical evolution, is said to be behind the push for a new goalkeeper. 'We had the exclusive on that in the international break. Amorim wants to replace Onana,' said Goldbridge. This ambition from Amorim appears to be clashing with the current limitations of the club's transfer policy. 'You can't be dictated to by the staff. You can't say, 'we'd like to replace you', and then that player goes 'well I'm not going anywhere' and you go 'OK, he can stay',' Goldbridge argued. The frustrations with how United operates under the Ineos-led structure run deep. Advertisement Yet, despite his scepticism, Goldbridge is not completely without belief. 'I'm not going to write it off… even though the source is good, even though it's the right thing to do,' he said. Like many fans, he wants United to act decisively, for once. Final Thoughts There is no mistaking the scale of the task at Manchester United, or the limited patience left among supporters. But in Emi Martinez and Ruben Amorim, Goldbridge sees glimmers of a new identity. 'Maybe there's a chance of a scraping fifth,' he mused, hardly the ambition of years past but perhaps the reality of the club's current state.

Alejandro Garnacho offered Premier League lifeline after Marcus Rashford decision
Manchester United need to find a buyer for Alejandro Garnacho in the transfer window after Ruben Amorim told the winger to find a new club at the end of last season Aston Villa are the latest club to signal their interest in Manchester United outcast Alejandro Garnacho. The winger is expected to depart the Red Devils before the end of the transfer window and is not part of Ruben Amorim's plans. The Argentina international, who was available for sale in January, was told to find a new club by the Portuguese head coach after Garnacho was publically critical of the decision to not select him to start in the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. As a result, Garnacho has not been part of United's pre-season plans. Instead the winger — along with Marcus Rashford, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho — has been told he can report to Carrington for training from 5pm, after the first team have completed their training. Thus far, United have not been able to facilitate a transfer for any of the players they want to sell. Villa have registered their interest in Garnacho, according to the Mail. Chelsea and Tottenham are also said to be monitoring the 21-year-old's situation, who prefers to remain in the Premier League. United previously valued Garnacho at £70m but that figure may prove difficult to earn given the public fallout of the winger's situation at United. But any fee will provide pure profit for the club in terms of profit and sustainability rules. Garnacho pictured himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt last month. The young star sparked some controversy when he wore a Rashford top, prompting the ire of some supporters. Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park, but ultimately did not see the option to make the move permanent activated. The United academy product scored four goals and added six assists in 17 appearances in the Midlands. Unai Emery's side had a £40m agreement in place with United to seal Rashford's transfer but it ultimately did not come to fruition. The forward instead wants a move that could offer Champions League football, with Barcelona said to be his dream destination. The Catalan side are said to be more interested in signing Rashford on loan. The England international's contract until 2028, that sees him earn £315,000-per-week could prove problematic to an exit. Speaking ahead of his loan, Rashford admitted he was keen to find a new club. "For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps," he said. "When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person. "If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me."
