Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Dominating 'Imaginary Football' in June
Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Dominating 'Imaginary Football' in June originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
As the calendar flipped to June exactly one week ago, there are many in and around the Cleveland Browns who have already crowned fifth-round draft pick Shedeur Sanders as the starter in Week 1.

There's just one problem. ... He doesn't appear ready, yet.
While Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie draft pick, Dillon Gabriel, stockpile OTA reps with the first teamers, Sanders is playing with everyone else. That would indicate his current place on the depth chart is fourth out of four.
Jason McIntyre, co-host of The Herd with Colin Cowherd is trying to bring some reality to the situation and spoke up on Thursday, even as Colin was on vacation.
"And the Shedeur Sanders drama continues. Folks, listen. You never want to overreact to ... can we call it imaginary football in June? They're not playing with real effort. It's basic stuff. And the division that we're seeing is massive. What you see people saying about Sanders, you would think he's ready to start Week 1. You see former NFL quarterbacks on social media breaking down every pass. ... You see Colin Cowherd, who's not even on this continent, but is checking in on Shedeur Sanders' OTAs. Despite all the hype for Shedeur, he's the only quarterback on the Browns who wasn't playing with the [first team]," McIntyre said.

"You guys need to go do some more homework before you crowns Shedeur Sanders. ... The guy's got 'Be Legendary' as his motto. He's throwing really lavish NFL Draft parties. And he's fourth on the depth chart, decidedly."
None of this bodes well for Sanders as the starting quarterback in Week 1, or at anytime this season for the Browns.
Coach Kevin Stefanski is known as somewhat of a quarterback whisperer. If he can't find a spot for Sanders in the top three positions in the quarterback room, no one can.

Rams Head Coach Addresses Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams' Pairing
Rams Head Coach Addresses Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams' Pairing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay had strong words when asked about the pairing of former New York Jets wideout Davante Adam and his Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Matthew Stafford. Advertisement The 37-year-old quarterback appeared in 16 games for the Rams during the 2024 season, throwing for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions while leading Los Angeles into the postseason. The former Georgia Bulldog is entering his fifth season under head coach Sean McVay and 16th of his NFL career since being selected No. 1 overall in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. NFL veteran Davante Adams, 32, signed with the Rams in the offseason after he was released by the Jets. Adams finished last season with 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns despite playing with multiple starting quarterbacks. He has recorded 1,000-plus receiving yards six times throughout his NFL career and has totaled 103 touchdowns. McVay's respect for Adams was evident from the start, as he highlighted the All-Pro receiver's film in a team meeting shortly after his arrival. Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay looks Lew-Imagn Images Both veterans are proven stars — Stafford won Super Bowl LVI with McVay in February 2022, while Adams remains widely regarded as one of the NFL's premier route runners. Advertisement 'What I think is really cool to be able to witness is the respect that you can feel they have for one another,' McVay told reporters. "... Matthew's got such a great way of being able to connect and communicate. And it's the same thing with Davante. "Those guys have such a high level of understanding of what they want. ... It's been cool to watch." With both players entering the latter stages of their careers, McVay's focus remains on maximizing what they can do together — and looking to build on last year's playoff success. Cubs' Nico Hoerner Reveals 6-Word Message to Umpire After Ejection
Cubs' Nico Hoerner Reveals 6-Word Message to Umpire After Ejection originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Cubs (40-25) are in first place in the NL Central and are the NL's second seed, but their offense disappeared for part of their series vs. the Detroit Tigers (43-24). They lost 3-1 on Friday, won 6-1 on Saturday, and lost 4-0 on Sunday. Advertisement The squad totaled just four hits in the latter contest, and second baseman Nico Hoerner got ejected by home plate umpire Derek Thomas for arguing balls and strikes in the top of the fifth inning. Shortstop Dansby Swanson hit a leadoff double with the Cubs down 2-0 to start the frame before Hoerner came up. The 28-year-old worked a 2-2 count before taking a pitch low and inside, which Thomas incorrectly called a third strike. Hoerner revealed what he said to Thomas before getting tossed, via Marquee Sports Network. Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner (2).Sergio Estrada-Imagn Images "I said, 'You're having a really bad day,'" the 5-foot-11-inch, 200-pounder said. He finished the game 0-for-2 and was replaced by backup Vijal Brujan, who went 0-for-1. Advertisement Hoerner is now slashing .286/.331/.357 with 28 RBI over 61 games. Tigers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty tossed a six-inning shutout with two hits and nine strikeouts against three walks in 94 pitches. The right-hander bested Cubs hurler Caleb Horton, who coughed up four runs on seven hits in five innings while adding six strikeouts and two walks. Chicago will continue its road trip against the Philadelphia Phillies (37-28) on Monday before hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates (26-40), Milwaukee Brewers (35-31), and the Seattle Mariners (32-31). Dodgers' Dave Roberts Announces Shohei Ohtani News Before Padres Game
Dodgers' Dave Roberts Announces Shohei Ohtani News Before Padres Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers have been hammered by injuries to their pitching staff. Among others, starting pitchers Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki are on the injured list. Advertisement Last week, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes told Jon Heyman of the New York Post that the team is not currently planning to deal for a pitcher ahead of the MLB trade deadline. One of the biggest reasons for taking this approach is the looming return to pitching for two-way star Shohei Ohtani. Undergoing right elbow surgery in 2023, Ohtani has not pitched in a game since he was a member of the Los Angeles Angels. Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (17).Kirby Lee-Imagn Images For his MLB career, Ohtani has posted a 3.01 ERA with 608 strikeouts in 481.2 innings as a pitcher. If he can come anywhere close to this production, Los Angeles will have itself another frontline starter who would supplant the need for a trade deadline move. Advertisement On Tuesday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced some more encouraging news, revealing there is a non-zero chance Ohtani pitches before the All-Star break. "Dave Roberts said the chances are 'north of zero' that Shohei Ohtani could be back sooner than the post-All-Star break timeline originally anticipate," Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic wrote on X. "Both Roberts and Mark Prior noted how good Ohtani looked over his three simulated innings today." This comes after Gomes told Heyman of Ohtani, "There's no reason to think he's not coming back." Now, it seems that return could be even closer than initially anticipated. This would be a huge boost for Los Angeles as it attempts to navigate significant injury misfortune, most notably to the pitching staff.
