Baton Rouge man charged with aggravated arson after setting fire to family's home
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge man has been arrested and charged with aggravated arson after allegedly setting fire to his family's home following a dispute.
On Feb. 13, the Baton Rouge Fire Department investigators responded to a residential fire on Cable Street. Authorities found that the fire was intentionally set in several parts of the house.
Jermar Lee Crawford, 23, is accused of starting the fire following an argument with his mother. The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damages. BRFD said Crawford is the homeowner's son.
Since the fire occurred near an occupied neighboring structure, BRFD said Crawford faces a charge of aggravated arson. He was booked Friday into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The case remains under investigation by the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

10 Chinese nationals detained after ICE operation at Baton Rouge massage parlors

WBRSO deputy hurt in crash on I-10, officials say
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed that one of their deputies was hurt in a crash on Wednesday, June 11. The sheriff's office said the crash took place a little after 11:15 a.m. on I-10 near mile marker 152. According to WBRSO, the deputy is believed to have minor injuries and is seeking medical attention. Baker man pleads guilty to human trafficking charges
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baker man pleaded guilty to five counts of human trafficking, the East Baton Rouge District Attorney's office confirmed Wednesday. Sentencing for Kevontae Reed, 29, is scheduled for Sept. 25. Troopers arrested Reed on human trafficking and indecent behavior with a juvenile charges after a March 14, 2024, undercover operation with Homeland Security at a Baton Rouge hotel. According to the Louisiana State Police, a human trafficking victim was rescued. LSP identified Reed as a repeat offender with a history of human trafficking offenses.
