‘Papagomo' says sorry to IGP to escape contempt proceedings
The trial of IGP Razarudin Husain's RM3 million defamation lawsuit against blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris is scheduled to begin on Dec 28, 2026.
KUALA LUMPUR : Blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris today avoided being sanctioned for contempt of court by apologising for publishing two derogatory social media postings about Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain earlier this year.
Wan Azri, also known as Papagomo, decided to purge his contempt just before proceedings before Judicial Commissioner Gan Techiong began.
In a statement read in court, Wan Azri, a former cop, expressed his unreserved and unconditional regret for using demeaning words when referring to Razarudin in a social media posting on Jan 14.
He also apologised for publishing a doctored photo of Razarudin on the same media platform the following day.
'I also undertake not to use demeaning words against the plaintiff (Razarudin),' he said.
Gan said Wan Azri will post his statement of apology on YouTube, Telegram, X and TikTok today which must remain on the social media platforms for at least seven days.
He directed Wan Azri to remove the postings made on Jan 14 and 15, which were the subject matter of the contempt of court proceedings.
Gan also ordered Wan Azri to pay RM5,000 in costs.
The case was fixed for a four-day trial beginning Dec 28, 2026.
Lawyers S Raam Kumar and Norleena Jamal represented Razarudin while counsel Rafique Rashid Ali and Nurmustanir Nor appeared for Wan Azri.
On Feb 10, Razarudin obtained the High Court's permission to initiate committal proceedings against Wan Azri for failing to comply with a court order.
Razarudin, who filed the application on Jan 24, wanted Wan Azri imprisoned or fined for contempt of court after failing to comply with an injunction order issued on Jan 10.
The court issued an injunction prohibiting Wan Azri or his agents from publishing or disseminating defamatory statements against Razarudin on any social media platform until the defamation suit is resolved.
The court also barred him and his representatives from causing the republication of statements, videos, statuses, comments, or any references to the plaintiff.
These materials relate to Razarudin's position as IGP and in his personal capacity, whether in writing, verbally, online or via instant messaging platforms such as Telegram and WhatsApp.
Wan Azri was also ordered to retract, remove and delete video postings on his YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Telegram, and X accounts dated Dec 14, 15, 20 and 22 last year, which contained the alleged defamatory statements against Razarudin.
On Dec 26 last year, Razarudin filed a RM3 million lawsuit against Wan Azri over alleged defamation, which also involved Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Kota Kinabalu: There are plans to build a replica of the Nomad aircraft involved in the 1976 Double Six tragedy at Prince Philip Park, Tanjung Aru, as part of its redevelopment, says Tanjung Aru Eco-Development (TAED) Chairman Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia. He said the intention is not to relocate the existing memorial in Sembulan but to create an additional site of remembrance within the redeveloped Prince Philip Park. 'People might not go out of their way to visit formal archives, but if we place educational elements in a park they already enjoy, it becomes a space for everyday learning,' he said. The Double Six memorial component is expected to cost between RM100,000 and RM200,000, forming part of the larger RM35 million park redevelopment project. Pandikar expressed concern that many Malaysians, especially those from Peninsular Malaysia, are still unaware of the tragedy. He said during a recent talk most attendees had never heard of the incident. He supports the idea of incorporating the Double Six tragedy into the national school syllabus and was encouraged by the high turnout of young people at the recent remembrance ceremony. 'While the Sembulan site remains the official memorial, we support establishing more access points nearby to help more people, including foreigners, understand this important part of our history,' he said. The revitalisation of Prince Philip Park is part of a broader eco-tourism initiative under the Tanjung Aru Eco-Development plan. Malaysia and Brunei boost disaster and security cooperation
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Brunei continue to strengthen their commitment to expanding regional cooperation in disaster preparedness and cross-border security, in addition to enhancing the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. In a Facebook post yesterday, Ahmad Zahid said the commitment was expressed during a bilateral meeting with Brunei's Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Setia Awang Ahmaddin Abdul Rahman, on the sidelines of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland. He expressed appreciation for Brunei's readiness to continue joint training between the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) and Brunei's National Disaster Management Centre, including knowledge transfer programmes and training based on best practices. 'We also agreed to intensify joint exercises and field training, including rescue operations and emergency simulations, which were recently conducted. 'These trainings not only foster trust between agencies but are also essential in coordinating operating procedures in the event of cross-border disasters,' he said in a Bernama report based on the Facebook post. Ahmad Zahid said Malaysia and Brunei had proven that close neighbourly ties, combined with strong commitment, could build more robust regional cooperation in disaster and security matters.

KUALA LUMPUR: Hari Raya Aidiladha greetings from all corners of the world were received by Malaysia as Muslims prepare to mark the event today. Through the Istana Negara Facebook page, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, extended their Aidiladha greetings to all Muslims in the country. 'Their Majesties also hope that the sacrificial ritual (korban) will be carried out well, and will be one that is blessed and acceptable to Allah SWT. 'May this spirit of sacrifice continue to unite the people harmoniously, bringing forth love and universal values of humanity,' said the royal couple yesterday. Their Majesties also said they are praying for the safety of all haj pilgrims so that they may always be well and blessed with a most enriching experience. In a series of Facebook posts this week, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed that greetings were also received from Iran, Turkiye and Pakistan. In a phone call with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday, Anwar said it is his prayer that haj pilgrims from both nations would be granted a blessed haj and contribute to the development of the ummah upon returning to their respective countries. He also expressed gratitude to Masoud for facilitating the repatriation of two Malaysian citizens previously detained in Iran, as well as the cordial treatment according to Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir during their recent visit to Teheran as part of joint efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation. And I hope that PM Shehbaz's official visit to Malaysia can be rescheduled as soon as his domestic situation allows it,' said Anwar on Facebook. In Mecca, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the haj is a powerful platform for unity and a symbol of universal solidarity that can restore the strength of the Muslim ummah if it is embraced with sincerity and deep understanding. He said as Muslims around the world face increasing division due to narrow-minded ideologies and a fading sense of brotherhood, the spirit of haj must be embraced to rekindle the values of love, mutual respect and fraternity among the faithful, he said in a Bernama report on Thursday. 'If we reflect with open hearts, we will see that haj is a commanding symbol of unity for Muslims worldwide. Look at the millions of people from different races, skin colours, cultures and languages gathering in one place, facing one qiblah, calling out one name: Allah SWT. 'There are no titles, no castes, no worldly pride. All that remains are two pieces of white cloth and hearts humbled before the Creator. Here, Islam abolishes discrimination and upholds true justice, that a person's worth lies not in appearance or wealth but in piety and righteous deeds,' he said. Mohd Na'im also reminded pilgrims to safeguard their safety and belongings to avoid anything that could jeopardise their haj experience. 'Pilgrims are also reminded to practise tolerance and give mutual assistance, and to avoid any kind of dispute that may undermine the spiritual essence of haj,' he said. Earlier, Mohd Na'im spent time visiting the accommodation tents and mingling with Muassasah pilgrims here. Malaysia received a haj quota of 31,600 pilgrims from Saudi Arabia for this haj season. In Kuala Lumpur, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the Aidiladha celebration should serve as a moment of heartfelt reflection on the meaning of sacrifice in the context of humanity and unity. He said the celebration is not just about the ritual of sacrifice, but also a symbol of sincerity and solidarity. 'These values are vital in building a peaceful and harmonious nation,' he said in a Facebook post yesterday. Yesterday, Anwar joined in the takbir raya at Surau Al-Ikhwan, Jalan Pinggiran Putra at Putrajaya, where Imam Mustafa Kamal Abdullah led the ceremony attended by more than 500 worshippers after Friday prayers. Accompanied by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Anwar arrived at the mosque at 1pm after having lunch at Restoran Pak Zain Patin in Dengkil.
