Retail Sales Up 8% in June 2025, Says RAI Survey
RAI CEO Kumar Rajagopalan noted that while demand for non-discretionary goods is currently driving market optimism, the upcoming festive season starting late August could further boost consumer spending.
Regionally, West India led with 10% growth, followed by North India at 9%, South at 7%, and East at 4%.
Category-wise, apparel and sports goods topped the charts with 10% growth each. Other key segments like consumer durables & electronics (CDIT), jewellery, and quick service restaurants (QSR) posted 9% gains.
The report highlights a cautiously optimistic retail landscape with emerging trends that may shape future consumption patterns across the country.

Ladakh was carved out as a separate Union Territory from the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019. Jammu and Kashmir was also reorganised as a UT on the same day.

New IIM director takes charge, focuses on 5 ‘i's
1 2 Kolkata: Alok Kumar Rai, who assumed the role of a full-time director at Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, on Wednesday, emphasised on the five 'I's—integration, inclusion, innovation, internationalisation and Indianness—for the premier B-school's journey ahead. IIM Calcutta had been without a full-time director for two years. Rai, who was the vice-chancellor of the University of Lucknow before this, was welcomed by students, faculty members and non-teaching staff at an event, held at the auditorium of the Joka institute. "We should focus on the holistic development of IIM Calcutta, keeping students at its epicentre. It is a well-accomplished institute, but we have to evolve to suit the current requirements. We should emphasise on the five 'I's—integration, inclusion, innovation, internationalisation, and Indianness—for the road ahead for IIM Calcutta," said Rai. Alok Kumar Rai takes charge as IIM Calcutta director
Indian Institute of Management--Calcutta has appointed Alok Kumar Rai as its new director. Rai was earlier the vice-chancellor of the University of Lucknow. 'On behalf of the board of governors of IIM Calcutta and the entire IIM Calcutta community, it is my privilege to welcome Alok Kumar Rai as our next director," Shrikrishna Kulkarni, chairperson, IIM Calcutta board of governors, said. "He comes to IIM Calcutta with a strong commitment to academic and research excellence, infrastructure development and good governance," Kulkarni said. IIM Calcutta was founded in 1961 as an institute offering management education and research. "As Indian academia strives for greater global impact in a world where the advent of AI is causing paradigm shifts, we look forward to Rai's leadership in guiding the institute through its next phase of growth," said Kulkarni. Rai takes over from professor Saibal Chattopadhyay, who earlier served as the director-in-charge during the transition period. "IIM Calcutta welcomed Alok Kumar Rai as the director of IIM Calcutta today," stated the institute release.
