NASA's supersonic X-59 jet that could slash NYC-London flight time in half taxis closer to take off
Taxi tests are underway on a highly anticipated supersonic plane designed to quietly break the sound barrier — and slash flight time between New York and London in half.
The X-59 jet, dubbed the 'son of Concorde,' is one step closer to takeoff after the experimental aircraft taxied on a California runway at low speed using its own power for the first time on July 10, NASA said in a press release.
The ground maneuvers at the US Air Force's Plant 42 in Palmdale mark the final series of trials for the 100-foot-long, 30-foot-wide jet before its maiden voyage, which is slated for sometime this year, according to the space agency.
'Over the coming weeks, the aircraft will gradually increase its speed, leading up to a high-speed taxi test that will take the aircraft just short of the point where it would take off,' officials said.
The high-tech plane, unveiled by NASA and Lockheed Martin last year, is the centerpiece of the space agency's QueSST mission to produce a quieter sonic boom for communities below and revolutionize air travel, potentially cutting transit time down significantly for commercial flights.
It could possibly fly from New York to London flight in three and a half hours, the agency previously said.
The new aircraft's innovative design and shape will cause it to produce a quiet 'thump' sound as it reaches speeds of up to 925 miles per hour, officials said.
Supersonic flights have been banned in the US and other countries for the past half-century due to the thunderous sound generated when planes exceed the speed of sound — 767 miles per hour.
But the X-59's thin, tapered nose is expected to break up shock waves that would cause the high-speed roar on a conventional aircraft, NASA previously boasted.
The latest innovation will succeed the British Airways Concorde, which reached speeds of around 1,350 miles per hour and completed its fastest transatlantic flight in just under three hours on Feb. 7, 1996.
The aircraft, which debuted in 1976, was plagued by costly maintenance and a fatal 2000 crash. It was retired from commercial service in 2003.

Fortinet signals strength in SASE and AI, but market looks for more
-- Shares of Fortinet Inc (NASDAQ:FTNT) edged down 3.7% in after-hours trading Wednesday, as investors weighed strong second-quarter earnings against continued macroeconomic caution and modest top-line momentum. The pullback came despite the company raising its full-year billings outlook and maintaining healthy margin guidance. The cybersecurity firm reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.64 for the quarter ended June 30, exceeding Wall Street expectations of $0.59. Revenue totaled $1.63 billion, in line with consensus estimates, reflecting stable uptake of both products and high-margin services. Billings outperformed guidance, and Fortinet now expects full-year billings between $7.325 billion and $7.475 billion, a bullish signal for forward revenue growth. It guided for gross and operating margins as high as 81% and 33.5%, respectively, demonstrating continued cost discipline and scalability. 'Our strong second quarter performance and consistent track record of growth are a direct result of our continued innovation and customer-first strategy,' said CEO Ken Xie. 'We are the industry leader in network security... underscores the strength of our AI-driven security approach and the strategic advantage of our unified FortiOS operating system.' Fortinet has continued to strengthen its position in converged networking and security, with recent gains in Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) and Security Operations. The company's recognition in five distinct Gartner (NYSE:IT) Magic Quadrant™ reports and expansion of the FortiCloud platform, with new services such as FortiIdentity and FortiConnect, highlight its commitment to innovation-driven differentiation. Despite a premium valuation and shares underperforming in recent weeks, investor sentiment will likely hinge on Fortinet's ability to accelerate revenue growth amid heightened competition. With firewall upgrades expected to ramp and AI innovation remaining a focus, Fortinet remains well-positioned but must execute against elevated expectations. Google can't plug the leaks: Pixel 10 Pro XL renders spill online
TL;DR A leak may have revealed marketing renders of the Pixel 10 Pro XL. The renders show the Pixel 10 Pro XL in Moonstone and Obsidian. The leak also shares renders of the base model. We're two weeks away from the August 20 Made by Google event. At the launch party, we'll finally get the unveiling of the Pixel 10 series, which should be followed up by the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a. But if you don't want to wait that long for the official reveal, then feast your eyes on these new renders of the Pixel 10 Pro XL. Courtesy of WinFuture, we're reportedly getting a new look at the largest Pixel 10 device. This leak comes shortly after renders of its smaller sibling, the Pixel 10 Pro, exposed the design from every angle. Unfortunately, outside of these new marketing images, this leak doesn't provide any new information we haven't heard before from previous leaks and rumors. In these renders, we can see the Pixel 10 Pro XL in its new Moonstone color and the familiar Obsidian colorway. On the right side of the device, sits the power button and volume rocker. Moving on to the back, we see the triple camera setup in its pill-shaped housing. Those cameras are joined by the flash and infrared-based temperature sensor. According to earlier leaks, the XL is expected to have a 6.8-inch 120Hz LTPO display with a variable refresh rate. Inside, it should have a Tensor G5 chip, 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, and a 5,200mAh battery. And for the cameras, we could be looking at 50MP Samsung GNV primary, 48MP Sony IMX858 ultrawide, 48MP Sony IMX858 telephoto sensors. In addition to the Pixel 10 Pro XL renders, this leak is also treating us to some base model Pixel 10 images. A while back, we learned that the Pixel 10 may be available in Indigo, Frost, Obsidian, and Lemoncello colorways. The renders above show the vanilla model in its Indigo color option. After the Pixel 10 series gets its unveiling, it's expected that the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL will be available by August 28. We may end up having to wait until October to get the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Buds 2a. Follow

JKS Restaurants, Famed London Hospitality Group, Expands Stateside
Some of London's most acclaimed Indian food is making its way across the pond. JKS Restaurants announced on Wednesday, August 6 that the group will expand overseas with new outposts of two beloved Britain-born Indian concepts in New York and Las Vegas. This fall, The Ambassadors Clubhouse will open at the new A24 headquarters near Madison Square Park in New York City. Later this year, Gymkhana is set to open at the Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas Founded in 2008 by siblings Jyotin, Karam, and Sunaina Sethi, JKS operates 35 restaurants internationally — including Gymkhana, Ambassadors Clubhouse, Trishna, Brigadiers, Sabor, Kitchen Table, BiBi, Berenjak, Hoppers and Speedboat Bar. These projects will be their first in North America. 'We have had our sights set on the U.S. for the last ten years, wanting to make our entry with the right brands, in the right cities, at the right moment. Ambassadors Clubhouse and Gymkhana are expressions of who we are and we are excited to connect with a new community of guests," said Karam Sethi comments. "We join the market at a time when the interest in Indian cuisine and culture is growing rapidly, and we look forward to contributing to this momentum by raising greater awareness of regional Indian cuisine.' Once both restaurants are up and running, JKS also plans to launch Gymkhana Fine Foods, a premium range of at-home Indian cooking sauces and marinades, in the U.S. Here's what to expect from JKS' duo of new restaurants opening on each coast: Ambassadors Clubhouse New York Named in honor of the Sethi sibling's grandfather, a former Indian Ambassador, the interiors at Ambassadors Clubhouse will be inspired by his summer house in Dalhousie and the abandoned party mansions of Northern India. Details including carpet patterns, ceiling features, marquetry and inlay details will pay homage to the Ambassador's seasonal residence, aslong with original artwork from Punjabi artists. Punjabi music will play in the dining room for a lively atmosphere while guests enjoy the splendor of a bygone era in Punjab's opulent royal kitchens. To drink, the cocktail program will focus on tequila and mezcal blended with regional ingredients; large-format cocktails designed for tables to share, playful shots, and interactive service. The original Ambassadors Clubhouse opened in Mayfair, London in 2024 at 25 Heddon St. New York's Ambassadors Clubhouse is slated for fall 2025 at 1245 Broadway in Manhattan. Gymkhana Las Vegas This winter, Gymkhana will open at ARIA Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Currently the only classic Indian restaurant worldwide to hold two Michelin stars, Gymkhana is known of London's most sought-after dining destinations, by culinary enthusiasts and celebrities including the likes of Dua Lipa and David Beckham. Inspired by private clubs in India, Gymkhana Las Vegas plans to offer another level of exclusivity to the Strip. The Las Vegas menu will feature many of Gymkhana London's signature Indian dishes, broadly focusing on tandoori-grilled specialties, classic curries, fragrant biryanis and chaat-style sharing plates. New dishes exclusive to the Las Vegas location will also be offered. The bar will feature Indian-inspired cocktails, including regional punches served tableside, and an extensive gin and tonic selection. "The culinary landscape of Las Vegas is constantly evolving and with that, MGM Resorts is primed to change and adapt through a forward-thinking lens," said MGM Resorts Chief Content, Hospitality and Development Officer Ari Kastrati. 'We have witnessed Indian cuisine continue to grow in popularity in the United States and as hospitality leaders, along with the JKS family, felt now is the right time to bring Gymkhana to ARIA. We have incredible respect for the brand's culinary excellence and feel the restaurant will perfectly collide with the fun lifestyle experience the Las Vegas guest knows and loves.'
