Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman took a chance on giving a running back a three-year, $37.75 million contract last offseason when plenty of other teams opted not to.

After a Super Bowl title in Year 1 with Saquon Barkley on the roster, it ended up paying off. The 28-year-old former New York Giant rushed for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns while also adding 33 receptions for 278 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He also set the record for most rushing yards in a single season, including playoffs, with 2,504.
Roseman has since rewarded Barkley with a two-year, $41.2 million extension.

And on Monday, EA Madden officially announced him as the cover athlete for their next video game, Madden NFL 26.
"Saquon Barkley hurdled his way onto the cover of #Madden26Coming," the game wrote. "8.14.25. Pre-Order Today."
Fans were quick to share their reactions, praising the choice and photo after Barkley pulled off a reverse hurdle in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past season.

Barkley becomes the first Eagle player to appear on the cover of the game since quarterback Donovan McNabb was chosen in 2006. He is the second straight running back on the cover of Madden, as 49ers' Christian McCaffrey graced the cover in 2025.

Rafferty had dealt with multiple health issues in recent years, notably dealing with a transverse myelitis diagnosis since 2008. According to Rafferty's daughter, Rachel Powers, her father had been hospitalized since early May. He was known for being an anchor on the Cowboys' offensive line, as the 14-year NFL veteran's career spanned from Roger Staubach to Troy Aikman. Rafferty was a fixture on the team after being drafted in the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft, wearing the famous Dallas star on his helmet from 1976 until he retired after the 1989 season. A New York native and Penn State product, Rafferty played in two Super Bowls for the Cowboys. He was the starting guard for Dallas in a 27-10 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 12. Originally a guard, Rafferty transitioned to center after four seasons in what was supposed to be a temporary move. It ended up being a permanent position change until Mark Stepnoski took over during the 1989 season, saying, "three weeks turned into nine years," according to the team website. Rafferty appeared in 203 games for the Cowboys and started in 182, which is the fourth-most in team history. In his post-playing days, Rafferty went into sports equipment sales. He is survived by his wife, Donna, daughter, Rachel, son, Michael, and two grandchildren.

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced they have hired Colorado Eagles associate head coach Dan Hinote as an assistant coach. Hinote helped lead the Eagles to a 43-21-5 record this season, best in the AHL's Western Conference. The Eagles led the league in goals for and had an AHL-best +65 goal differential. Advertisement The 48-year-old began his coaching career as an assistant with the Columbus Blue Jackets from the 2010-2011 season through the 2013-14 season. He transitioned to a pro scout for four seasons before joining the US National Development Program's U17 and U18 teams. He then joined the Nashville Predators as an assistant for four seasons from 2020-21 through 2023-24. In his playing career Hinote recorded 38 goals and 90 points in 503 career NHL games with the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues. He won the 2001 Stanley Cup with Colorado. He also posted 84 points in 144 career AHL games with the Hershey Bears, scoring 28 goals and 59 points in 55 games and being named an AHL All-Star in 1999-2000.
