Capaldi, from Bathgate, made the last-minute decision to join headliner Tom Walker for part of his set.
Concertgoers were warned not to film the gig as venue bosses asked fans to keep their phones in sealed pouches throughout.
The Hold Me While You Wait crooner, who has Tourette's, reportedly told the audience he was "very nervous".
It is the first time Capaldi has appeared on stage since his 2023 Glastonbury set, which saw him tear up after suffering repeated tics.
Soon after, he cancelled all of his future shows and announced he was stepping back from the spotlight for the sake of his mental health.
After the show on Friday, Tom Walker said: "When Lewis confirmed he wanted to do it last minute, I was delighted. We've bumped into each other a few times over the years backstage at fezzys (festivals) and events and he's a total legend.
"I know how much pressure this industry can put on artists at times, especially after a bit of a break.
"So for him to be able to play a little secret gig in a safe space without all the phones, the noise and the expectations was perfect. I'm buzzing to have been a part of it."
Fans flocked to social media to share their excitement at seeing Capaldi back on stage.
One wrote: "Lewis Capaldi being a surprise guest was the best thing ever. What a gig".
This Morning fans all say the same thing as Lewis Capaldi leaves them in hysterics with saucy career confession
Another added: "Tom Walker you were fabulous tonight, but very generous to give your night up to Lewis Capaldi, it was as epic, thank you, you're both stars".
A third said: "Lewis looked so good and sang so well."
It comes amid rumours that Lewis is gearing up to make a comeback.
Singer Yungblud, who is close pals with Lewis, recently told how he is getting his mental health back on track.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, he said: "I have heard his new music and it sounds great. He is getting his mental health right.
"I love him, as me and him have been on this ride together.
"We experienced it at the same time and he is perhaps the only friend who knows what I am going through, in the same way I know what he's going through."
We previously told how the chart-topper has seen the cost of revamping his 'money pit' mansion soar to more than £1million.
The rising bill is on top of the £1.6million Capaldi forked out for his farmhouse in 2020.

Kate Moss And Bobby Gillespie's Zara Collaboration Is Glastonbury Outfit Goals

For anyone spending their lunch break mood boarding looks for Glastonbury, Kate Moss's many festival triumphs will be playing like something of a greatest hits show reel. The waistcoats, the weeny shorts, the studded belts, the metallic micro dresses, no one gets dressed for a gig quite like the supermodel, which is why attention must be paid to the fact that you can now get the so-called look from Zara. Kate Moss and Bobby Gillespie ©Mert and Marcus For her second collaboration with the high street retailer, Moss has not only plundered the depths of her own festival wardrobe for inspiration, she's also enlisted the help of a Bobby Gillespie, Primal Scream's frontman, and his very stylish wife, Katy England. Together, they've cooked up a collection that features the model's signatures that fans will immediately recognise from pap shots at Worthy Farm. (Oh and her daughter, Lily Grace Moss Hack, also models her mum's new collection on the brand's website.) Kate Moss ©Mert and Marcus There are bead-embellished waistcoats, zippered leather hot pants, giant sunglasses, gladiator sandals and the kind of skinny metallic scarves that you haven't seen since approximately 2004, aka a fever dream straight out of the early '00s hall of fame - and Kate Moss 101. Kate Moss and Bobby Gillespie ©Mert and Marcus If some pieces look not just familiar but like re-editions, that's because they're modelled on vintage garments owned by Moss. 'Nothing matches the feeling of finding a one-off piece,' she says in the press release accompanying the collection, adding that seeing the men's collection coming together, which was designed in collaboration by Gillespie, took it from wafty dresses to something tougher. 'You could feel it coming over and we ended up going somewhere quite unexpected,' she says. Kate Moss ©Mert and Marcus 1. Yellow T-Shirt 3. Studded Belt 4. Bangles 5. Black Maxi Dress 6. Richard Madeley presents Good Morning Britain in cast after ‘double fracture'

The 69-year-old was asked how he got the injury by co-host Susanna Reid, who remarked 'that looks sore', at the start of Monday's edition of the ITV morning show. He replied: 'It's a double fracture of the wrist. I was walking quite quickly down a steep pavement in France, actually, on Friday, and the pavement was loose, and it flipped up and it flipped me forward. and I thought, am I going to win or is gravity going to win? And gravity won. 'I hit the ground hard, so yeah, I've got a double fracture and we'll see how it goes.' Reid then asked whether it was still sore to which her co-host replied: 'I'm not discussing the pain threshold.' In Monday's show, Madeley's cast could be seen as the two went on to discuss Greta Thunberg's aid boat which had been travelling to Gaza and has been boarded by Israeli forces, the NHS's recent calls for a million new blood donors to come forward, and protests in Los Angeles. As he interviewed comedian turned artist Jim Moir, best known by his stage name Vic Reeves, who showed him how he can make his bed in eight seconds, Madeley praised him with 'one hand clapping'. Madeley has co-presented the show since 2017, after previously launching ITV's This Morning in 1988 with wife Judy Finnigan, with whom he went on to present chat show Richard And Judy from 2001 to 2009. The presenter also worked on The Wright Stuff as a guest host between 2012 and 2017. Madeley's co-host Reid joined Good Morning Britain in 2014, having previously worked on BBC Breakfast and Sunday Morning Live.
