The person, who did not immediately know the victims' conditions, was not authorised to publicly discuss the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The Fire Department of New York said emergency crews were called to the Park Avenue office building on Monday evening for a report of someone shot. A spokesperson said the call came in at around 6.30pm but provided no other details. Police provided no additional information.

Korean green card holder detained at US airport for over a week, faces deportation
A researcher at Texas A&M University flying home from abroad was detained for more than a week by immigration authorities at the San Francisco International Airport, sleeping in a chair and living off food sold in the airport, his family and lawyers said Thursday. It was unclear why Tae Heung 'Will' Kim, who is a legal permanent resident with a green card, was detained on July 21, his lawyer Karl Krooth said at a news conference. Kim, who went to South Korea to attend his brother's wedding, is now in removal proceedings to be deported and is being held at an immigration detention facility in Arizona, Krooth said, adding that he has yet to talk to his client. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement that any green card holder who has a drug offence is in violation of their legal status and can be detained. His lawyers said Kim was charged in 2011 with misdemeanour marijuana possession in Texas, where recreational use is illegal. His lawyers declined to discuss those charges on Thursday. But one lawyer told The Washington Post, which first reported on Kim's detention, that he fulfilled a community service requirement and successfully petitioned for nondisclosure to seal the offence from the public record. 02:30 Chinese woman recaptured after escape from Panama hotel holding hundreds deported by the US Chinese woman recaptured after escape from Panama hotel holding hundreds deported by the US Since returning to the White House, US President Donald Trump has launched an unprecedented campaign of immigration enforcement that has pushed the limits of executive power and clashed with federal judges trying to restrain him.

US woman who funnelled Chinese investor money to Trump campaign pleads guilty
A New York businesswoman has pleaded guilty in connection with a financial scheme that ripped off more than US$30 million from foreign investors and funnelled some of the stolen money into US political campaigns, including a 2017 fundraiser for President Donald Trump during his first term. Sherry Xue Li, 48, of Oyster Bay, pleaded guilty on Wednesday in federal court on Long Island to money laundering conspiracy and conspiracy to defraud the US by obstructing the Federal Election Commission's administration of campaign finance laws. She faces up to 20 years in prison and is set to be sentenced on December 5. Her lawyer, Kevin Keating, declined to comment on the plea and the charges on Wednesday. She has been detained since her arrest in 2022. Li's co-defendant, Lianbo Wang, pleaded guilty to similar charges in March 2024 and was sentenced to five years in prison. Prosecutors say the scheme went on for nearly a decade. Li and Wang coaxed investors, many of whom were from China, into contributing US$500,000 each to a fictitious development project, with a false promise to guarantee them lawful permanent resident status in the US, authorities said. They used millions of dollars from those investments for personal expenses, including clothing, jewellery, housing, holiday travel and upscale dining, officials said.

Cybersecurity crime losses in Hong Kong up 15% year on year in first half of 2025
Financial losses through cybersecurity crimes in Hong Kong hit HK$3.04 billion (US$387.3 million) in the first half of 2025, marking a nearly 15 per cent year-on-year increase, official figures have shown. Police on Thursday also highlighted the problem of hacking activities, with financial losses from such attacks surging more than tenfold to HK$39.4 million in the first six months of 2025, up from HK$3.3 million in the same period last year, despite a drop in the number of cases. The latest figures were revealed as the city's Digital Policy Office introduced key initiatives for promoting cybersecurity in the second half of the year. Raymond Lam Cheuk-ho, chief superintendent of the cybersecurity and technology crime bureau, noted a heightened level of digital threats in the current landscape. 'We observed a slight decline in hacker attack numbers, but a significant surge in financial losses, which indicates escalating threats,' he said. Lam cited the case of a local financial institution targeted by hackers in June, which resulted in the theft of over 3 million units of stablecoin and other cryptocurrencies.
