Brandon Sivley named 2025 Firefighter of the Year
DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — Decatur Fire & Rescue announced that one of its own was named as the 2025 Firefighter of the Year.
On Saturday, Decatur Fire & Rescue announced Lieutenant Brandon Sivley as the recipient of the 2025 Firefighter of the Year award.
The department said Sivley serves as a Deputy Fire Marshal for DFR. In the news release sent out announcing Sivley as the recipient of the award, DFR said he is well-regarded for his 'unwavering advocacy for Decatur Fire & Rescue and the City of Decatur.'
DFR said Sivley began his career with the City of Decatur on Jan. 24, 2011, as a firefighter. He has since grown his career, being promoted to Driver-Engineer in Nov. 2019 and later to Lieutenant in Jan. 2022.
In his current role within the Fire Marshal's Division, DFR said Sivley is responsible for a variety of tasks, including fire investigations, plan reviews, site visits, life safety inspections and code enforcement.
Sivley was honored at the annual American Legion Post 15 Community Awards Ceremony on the evening of Friday, March 14, 2025.

Doña Ana County Fire Rescue extinguish residential fire in Organ
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Doña Ana County Fire Rescue (DAFR), with the help of the Las Cruces Fire Department, extinguished a residential structure fire Sunday morning, June 8, in Organ, New Mexico. According to DAFR, the call came in at 9:30 a.m. on June 8, along the 6800 block of Aurora Place in Organ, roughly 13 miles west of Las Cruces. When fire crews arrived, an RV was 'fully engulfed in flames that spread to a nearby mobile unit being used as a fixed residence,' Doña Ana County Fire said. What we know The fire happened around 8:30 p.m. just off the east end of Hart Island, which is located at the western end of the Sound. City Island's only bridge was partially shut down as first responders rushed in. Citizen app video showed the thick black smoke rising into the air, visible from the Bronx. According to officials, 22 people ended up in the water after the fire broke out. Nineteen swam to shore on Hart Island, while three more had to be pulled out by rescue teams. One person was in critical condition, officials said. The others suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The FDNY led the response, with backup from NYPD Harbor and Aviation and the U.S. Coast Guard. What we don't know The cause of the fire was unknown at the time.

5 rescued after jet ski overturns on James River, fire crews say
SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Five people were rescued after a jet ski overturned in the James River Saturday night. According to officials, crews with the Suffolk Department of Fire & Rescue responded to the 4100 block of River Park Drive for reports of an overturned jet ski on the James River. Fire Boat 1, which was at Harborfest at the time, responded to the scene and was able to bring five people onboard.
