Navan victor Carmers heading for Queen's Vase
The Wootton Bassett colt won on debut just over a week ago, taking a Ballinrobe maiden by a length and a quarter with the rest of the field well strung out behind him and the runner-up.
He started as the 6-4 favourite under Billy Lee when stepping up to Listed level on his second start, tackling the same one-mile-five-furlong trip in a field of seven.
Again the bay showed his class, racing prominently throughout and easily shaking off all challengers to secure a three-length victory from Adrian Murray's What's Your Game.
Twomey said: "I was very happy with the way he did it in Ballinrobe. He's a horse that just does what he has to do, hence the headgear (blinkers).
"I thought he would run a good race (in Ballinrobe) and I thought he would finish the race well. I thought he would be in the (first) three. He surprised me maybe just how well he won at the line, he won comfortably and Donagh (O'Connor) said he had to go down the back straight to pull him up.
"He came home, licked the pot, rode out this week, didn't care and I said to Billy 'I'm going to put him in the Yeats and see what happens'. As the week went on, it became clear that he was ready to go.
"We were keen today to get a lead, we knew we'd stay and ordinarily we might have jumped and made it, but he's a horse that I don't think would like to be in front too long.
"When he went to the front I was a little bit concerned but, to be fair to him, he picked up and rallied. He's keeping plenty for himself, I'd say there's plenty in him.
"He has ability but he is just like the trainer – he does what he has to do!
"I said it to the owner there, that race (Queen's Vase) in Royal Ascot is probably the right race for him. He's a stayer and he has enough experience to go to a race like that.
"I was thrilled when Fiona (Carmichael, owner) asked us to train the first for her a couple of years ago and she kindly sent me on this horse. She has been very patient with me. He trained very well all last year without being asked any question. He has trained well this spring and is two for two in eight days."
Earlier on the card there were two notable winners for Aidan O'Brien, firstly in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden over six furlongs.
Gstaad, a half-brother to Vandeek, was the horse who came home in front, striking by three-quarters of a length on debut to find himself entered into the Coventry Stakes market at 10-1 with Paddy Power.
O'Brien's other winner, and another horse throwing his hat in the ring for Royal Ascot, was the €2.2million purchase Seattle.
Winner of the five-furlong Navan Racecourse Maiden by a length and a quarter, the colt is now a 25-1 chance for the Commonwealth Cup with both Paddy Power and Betfair.

Horse racing tips: ‘She's a supreme stayer' – Red-hot Templegate's 11-4 Sunday NAP
TEMPLEGATE'S Sunday tips are below after yet another winning NAP on Saturday. Back a horse by clicking their odds. (NO ALIBI Pontefract 3.42, nap). The sun should be shining at Ponte Carlo which is good news for this improving filly who has shown a liking for quick conditions. Paddy Twomey is one of Ireland's most consistent trainers and he started this two-year-old at The Curragh where she was a close-up second on debut in April. She more than matched that form when getting off the mark at Cork a month later before a smooth success at Limerick last time when staying this distance strongly. It's a bit of a leap from there into Listed company but she's clearly going the right way. Advertisement DIVOT (4.52 Southwell, nb) Was a close-up second over this trip last time when probably held up for too long. Hopefully Saffie Osborne has learned from that run and can keep him a little closer to the pace. He's certainly good enough to take this. ULTRASOUL (3.22 Southwell, treble) Ran a cracking second on return from eight months off at Lingfield in a first-time hood. This step up in trip looks a wise move. Advertisement SAXONIA (3.12 Pontefract, Lucky 15) Comes here in form with a Newmarket win this season and a Wolverhampton near-miss last time. This track should suit his positive style and Billy Loughnane's on again. She then uncovers a suspicious phone call from a 'Mr Howard Wobb' heaping praise on VAR and hailing referees. But the sketch reaches its crescendo when she has to crack the case of the ongoing FFP saga. Advertisement City were slapped with a whopping 115 charges over alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules back in February which then went up to 130. She gives her verdict saying that Paddy Power will sort it out once and for all if the game's bigwigs won't. In addition to their alleged financial wrongdoings, City have been accused of failing to co-operate with the Prem's investigation. If found guilty, City could be hit with huge financial penalties and a points deducation. They could also be RELEGATED if they're found to have committed the most serious charges. Coleen shared a lengthy Instagram post accusing her pal of leaking stories about her. In 2022, three years after Coleen's initial accusation, Rebekah launched a libel case against her, which she lost.

'Paddy's seen enough': Bookmaker Paddy Power pays out on Celtic title win after just two games
IRISH bookmaker Paddy Power revealed on Sunday it was paying out on a Celtic title win — just two games into the new season. The company made the call following the Hoops' 2-0 win at Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon, which put them top of the table with six points. Meanwhile, Rangers have picked up two points after drawing their opening two fixtures under new boss Russell Martin. Announcing the news, Paddy Power said it had decided to bite the bullet and make the early call to avoid 'nine months worrying about a title race that we all know is never going to happen'. "Celtic and Rangers fans, you're welcome," they added. 'Insurmountable' It's still early days in the Scottish Premiership and while Celtic looked much improved against Aberdeen, they laboured to a late win on the opening day last week at home to St Mirren. Rangers were undone by a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw at Motherwell last weekend and after a red card yesterday, the 10 men saw a late winner chalked off for offside at home to Dundee. However, despite the fine margins with 36 games to go, Paddy Power has made the bold call. 🚨 EARLY PAYOUT! 🚨 Right, we've seen enough. We're paying out on Celtic to win the 2025/26 Scottish Premiership! Applies to all singles and multis, online and retail. No max stake. 18+ GambleAware | #CelticFC — Paddy Power (@paddypower) August 10, 2025 "Celtic are the Scottish champions yet again! At least, that's what we fully expect to be saying come the end of the Scottish Premiership this season," read a statement on their website. "We know we're only two games in but after Brendan Rodgers' men continued their 100 per cent record with a 2-0 win at Aberdeen on Sunday, a four-point gap to Rangers, who have drawn twice, already seems insurmountable. "Paddy's seen enough and he's paying out on all bets on Celtic to win the Scottish Premiership (singles and multis) this season, both in-store and online. "There's no max stake and winnings will be in online accounts shortly." Can Gers boss prove Paddy Power wrong? Despite the domestic results, Rangers saw off Panathinaikos in their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie and are 3-0 up after the first leg of their third round tie against Viktoria Plzeň. While the Gers have won just one of the last 14 titles, fans know that you write a new manager off at your peril. Ange Postecoglou began his Celtic reign with three defeats in his first six league games in the 2021-22 season to trail reigning champions Rangers by four points. A draw the following week left them trailing their rivals by six points as the Hoops endured their worst league start for 23 years. However, they lost no more league games that season, dropping just 10 points from the remaining 93 on offer to go on and win the title by four points. Martin will no doubt be hoping to make Paddy Power eat their words and he will soon have a chance to prove them wrong with Rangers facing Rodgers' side in the first derby of the season on August 31.
