Bryson DeChambeau wrapped up "a very emotional week" at Royal Portrush with a final-round of 64 that featured a no-bogey round including seven birdies.
Though his Open result didn't match the flashes of brilliance he showed at Augusta or Quail Hollow earlier this season, the YouTube sensation might have been the happiest LIV golfer leaving Northern Ireland.

DeChambeau, currently sitting fifth in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings, entered The Open knowing it was his last opportunity to earn qualifying points as a LIV member. A slip from the top six would force him to rely on a captain's pick.
But it seems he has little to worry about his Bethpage Black qualification now.
In a conversation with Sports Illustrated's Bob Harig, Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley confirmed that DeChambeau will be a crucial part of Team USA's lineup for September's battle against Luke Donald's Ryder Cup team.
"Bryson is going to be a very important piece to us winning the Ryder Cup," the captain shared with Sports Illustrated via text on Sunday night. "He brings so much. He brings energy, passion, but most importantly, he's one of the best players on the planet."
That news broke just hours after DeChambeau revealed he'd received a personal message from Bradley in the locker room, a quiet, powerful gesture that already signaled his confirmed place.

After his bogey-free rounds, the LIV Golf pro was asked a lot of questions during the post-round press conference, including whether he had received any messages from the captain.
"I talked with him briefly, and then he put something in our lockers that was pretty inspirational," DeChambeau told reporters.
When asked to reveal the message, he denied it, stating via SI, "It's a personal message."
He added, "It meant a lot. This year's no joke. We're tired of it. We're tired of losing."
It wasn't the first time Bradley reached out to DeChambeau.
Earlier this season, he hosted a team dinner in Philadelphia. DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka were the only two LIV golfers invited. Though DeChambeau couldn't attend in person, he joined virtually and remained engaged with the leadership process.
The 31-year-old was left off the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, where Team USA fell to Europe at Marco Simone. But he competed in both 2018 (Paris) and 2021 (Whistling Straits), with the latter ending in a dominant American win.
Now, for Bethpage Black, DeChambeau is looking forward to repeating history.
"We have the most wins on tour right now as the Crushers," he stated with confidence during the press conference on Sunday.
"It's been so much fun playing with Paul (Casey), Anirban (Lahiri), and Charles (Howell III). The way I've personally led my team is I've let them be their individual self, their best individual self. ... That's how I learned from team golf is let the individual be the best individual they can possibly be to add to the team. That's it. Don't try to put someone in a bubble and say you need to do this, you need to do that."

Report: Luke Donald agrees to Ryder Cup rule change, helping Keegan Bradley's path as playing captain

A recent rule change has further paved the way for Keegan Bradley to be a playing captain for the U.S. squad in the 2025 Ryder Cup. Telegraph Sport reported Monday that Team Europe and captain Luke Donald have agreed to a rule change in the captain's agreement that will allow one of Bradley's assistants to act as a de facto captain if Bradley is playing during a session. 'Keegan can only change the overarching contract with Luke and Ryder Cup Europe's approval,' a source told Telegraph Sport. 'The contract between the teams includes things like how many vice-captains a team can have, etc. That is used year on year and captains rarely change that. But Keegan went to Luke with this clause and Luke generously agreed. We don't want any bad blood between the camps.' Only the captain is allowed to give advice to players in the Ryder Cup, such as what clubs to hit on a par 3 or where to aim in a fairway. But as Bradley, who looks set to become the first Ryder Cup playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963, continues to plan to play, he's making adjustments to allow his assistants to step in if he is on the course. The report suggests Jim Furyk, who was Team USA's captain in 2018 during a defeat in Paris, would step up into the role of captain when Bradley is playing. Bradley sits 10th in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings with four weeks to go until the top six earn automatic selections on the team. While it's unlikely Bradley rises that far, his recent form suggests he's one of the 12 best Americans to take on Bethpage Black come September in New York. Now, a change in the rules further paves the way for him to be a playing captain.

Scottie Scheffler becomes ridiculous favorite at The Open

The post Scottie Scheffler becomes ridiculous favorite at The Open appeared first on ClutchPoints. The 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush has already seen wild storylines play out. Bryson DeChambeau made history, following up his 78 with a 65 on Friday to make the weekend. Captain Keegan Bradley put himself in a great position, prompting more Ryder Cup talk. But all eyes are on World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler entered Friday's second round in a good spot, signing for a 3-under 68 on Thursday. But early on, it appeared there was little chance he could hold the lead entering the weekend after 2023 Open winner Brian Harman went low, climbing to 8-under. Then Scheffler said the proverbial, 'hold my beer.' The 3-time major champion came out white hot, birdieing four of his first seven holes, including three straight. The moment he climbed to 7-under, his odds of winning the Open Championship skyrocketed. As the X account Covers posted odds from BetUS, you could not even get him at even money any longer. Scheffler made the turn in just 32 strokes. The Ridgewood, New Jersey native was going off at -115. Meanwhile, the closest competitor was 2022 U.S. Open champion Matthew Fitzpatrick. Granted, since those odds were posted, Fitzpatrick has also caught fire with four straight birdies. He is the first playing in The Open field to reach double figures at 10-under. That has boosted his odds from the listed +600, but Scheffler is still easily the favorite. In fact, there are only two golfers within 10 times the odds of the world's best player. Scottie Scheffler continued to chase down Fitzpatrick, too. He began his back nine the way his front ended, with another birdie on the par-4 10th. To no one's surprise, Scheffler leads the field in strokes gained, a stat that he has dominated to historic levels over the last couple of years. The heavy rains have kicked in at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. It will make for an interesting finish to the second round of the Open Championship. Jon Rahm kicks wedge down Royal Portrush fairway at Open Championship

The post Jon Rahm kicks wedge down Royal Portrush fairway at Open Championship appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Open Championship at Royal Portrush has not been kind to everyone. Bryson DeChambeau had a terrible Thursday, but bounced back Friday, Shane Lowry is losing it, and the rain is coming down hard. Jon Rahm flipped out at a Royal Portrush fan in Round One at The Open Championship, and lost it again on the same hole on Friday. Rahm snapped at a fan who whistled in his back swing on the 11th tee box on Thursday. He explained in his press conference that he was more upset at his poor swing than the fan. But 18 holes later, he hit a poor approach shot on the 11th. The club dropped out of his hand, and instead of picking it up, he kicked it twice. The shot in question got a lucky hop off the mounds and landed on the green. But from 118 yards, Rahm was hoping for a closer birdie putt than 27 feet. He missed that putt, but tapped in for par. One shot better than yesterday at the 11th, but the patience is wearing thin for the Spaniard. The Open Championship is slowly slipping away from Rahm, undoubtedly part of the frustration. He birdied the two par fives on the front, the second and seventh, to move to three under on the tournament. But consecutive bogeys on eight and nine spit those shots right back to the field. Through 14 holes, he is even par on the day and one under for the tournament. Rahm has been solid in majors since signing with LIV Golf, not finishing outside the top 14 in the first three majors of the year. Considering his success in the Irish Open, he was considered a favorite coming into the week. But with Matthew Fitzpatrick stringing together a great round, it's getting late early for Rahm.
