Notting Hill Carnival 2025 festival: dates, lineup, tickets and schedule

Notting Hill Carnival 2025 festival: dates, lineup, tickets and schedule

Time Outa day ago
Notting Hill Carnival is one of London's annual highlights – it wouldn't be summer in the city without it. Every late August bank holiday, the streets of west London are flooded with an explosion of colourful, feather-decked dancers, steel pan drums, booming basslines and plenty of Red Stripe-fueled good times.
More than two million people flocked to Notting Hill to dance in the streets of W11 last time round, and we expect 2025 will be no different. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather, but the action will continue even if it's chucking it down.
Read on to find out more about the long-standing Caribbean celebration, how to get there and what's going down this year.
What is Notting Hill Carnival?
Carnival is one of the longest-running street parties in the world. Started by London's Caribbean communities in 1966, it's a celebration of freedom and Caribbean culture, with an iconic parade showcasing the best of mas, soca, calypso, steel bands and soundsystems.
When is Notting Hill Carnival 2025?
West London will be taken over with dazzling floats, kaleidoscopically dressed performers, rib-shaking soundsystems, the sweet, smoky smell of jerk chicken and steel bands over the August Bank Holiday weekend from Sunday August 24 to Monday August 25.
What is the Notting Hill Carnival 2025 line-up?
Each year, surprise guests appear across the parade route and soundsystems, sending waves of excitement rippling through Carnival. In 2022, Sean Paul and Koffee showed up to get partygoers dancing. Even Beyoncé rocked up in 1999.
The events confirmed so far for this year are:
Panorama. The UK's biggest steel pan competition takes over Emslie Horniman Pleasance Park on Saturday August 23.
J'ouvert. A pre-dawn celebration where participants cover each other in paint, powder and chocolate, soundtracked by steel bands. Sunday August 24, 6am to 9pm.
Opening Ceremony. Local residents, participants, carnival officials and friends of the event gather for the official opening ceremony at 10am Sunday, August 24.
Children's Parade. This family-friendly morning event sees kids dancing in the streets in their homemade Carnival costumes. Sunday August 24.
Dutty/Fun Mas. Soak up the colours of carnival literally at this event, where spectators are splashed with paints, powder and more. Sunday August 24.
Traditional Parade. Features mas, soca, calypso and much more. Sunday August 24.
Sound systems. Pitch up at a soundsystem location and dance the day away. There are over 30 spots to choose from on the parade route – expect to hear house, samba, reggae and much more. Sunday August 24 and Monday August 25, from midday until 7pm.
Food stalls. There are hundreds of them, including Jamaican Jerk chicken, Trinidadian roti and Guyanese pepper pot. Sunday August 24 to Monday August 25.
Adult's day parade. Expect lots of dancing, parading and partying. Monday, August 25.
What is the schedule for Notting Hill Carnival 2025?
The official schedule usually goes something like this.
Notting Hill Carnival 2025 will officially start at 10am on Sunday, August 24, and at 10.30am on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25.
But before then, Saturday is all about steelpan bands. Panorama, the UK's national steelband competition, kicks off at Emslie Horniman's Pleasance Park, from 4pm 'til 11pm. Roughly six bands will battle it out to be the champions, followed by a DJ set to keep the party going.
Sunday's family day of Carnival normally kicks off bright and early with J'Ouvert – a traditional celebration that takes place in the early before the formal start of Carnival. In 2024 J'ouvert was cancelled due to a lack of bands being able to participate, but it is officially back for 2025, kicking off bright and early at 6am.
Then there will be an official opening ceremony from 10am to 10.30am on Great Western Road, before the children's day parade and Carnival Parade kicks off and runs until 5pm.
On Carnival Sunday and Monday, the static soundsystems will run from midday to 7pm at various locations across the parade. On Carnival Monday, the adult's day parade will run from 10.30am to 8.30pm across the parade route.
What time does the Carnival start and finish?
Carnival starts at around 10am on both days. The parade on children's day finishes at around 5pm, while the adult's day parade lasts a little longer, wrapping up at around 8.30pm. Both days are subject to a strict sound curfew, meaning that the soundsystems stop playing at 7pm on Saturday and Sunday, at which time revellers will often head on to afterparties elsewhere in the city.
Do I need a ticket for Notting Hill Carnival?
The NHC parade is free for anyone to attend and everyone is welcome. But, if you want to join in with the parade, you need to be part of a group authorised to do so or pay to join the procession. If you want to continue the festivities into the night, you will need to buy a ticket for one of the countless afterparties across the city. You'll also need to buy a ticket for Panorama, with proceeds split between the performing bands.
How many people attend each year?
As many as two million people attend Notting Hill Carnival each year, while around 40,000 volunteers help to stage the event, and 9,000 police officers are drafted in to ensure it goes ahead safely.
Where is Notting Hill Carnival?
NHC takes over Notting Hill in west London. Get off at Notting Hill Gate station, Westbourne Park or Royal Oak and simply follow the crowds. It won't be long before you run into a soundsystem, a mini-street party, or the parade itself.
What is the 2025 Carnival parade route?
Taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25, the main parade is around three and a half miles long and takes over most of W10. Although the exact route for 2025 has yet to be confirmed, the parade circuit typically starts near Westbourne Grove tube station at 9.30am and winds down Great Western Road, before it slowly makes its way to Westbourne Park and then up to Ladbroke Grove.
How to get to Notting Hill Carnival 2025?
Travel by tube:
As Notting Hill's roads will be closed off throughout the Bank Holiday weekend, you won't be able to get an Uber or catch a bus into the heart of the action. But there are plenty of nearby tube stations within walking distance of the main event, including Notting Hill Gate, which will be 'exit only' from 11am to 7pm each day, to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of people using the station that day. FYI: there will be no interchange between the Circle and District line and Central Line on both days.
Royal Oak and Westbourne Park will be 'exit only' from 11am to 6pm, with Royal Oak closing thereafter and Westbourne Park closing after 11.30pm. Also don't forget: Latimer Road will be closed from 11.30pm on both days. Avoid Ladbroke Grove and Holland Park as they're both closed on Sunday and Monday.
Want a Carnival hack? Pick a meeting point in advance for when you inevitably lose your mates in the crowd.
When is family day for Notting Hill Carnival?
Family day is on Carnival Sunday, August 25 2025. The official opening ceremony will take place from 10am to 10.30am on Great Western Road, before the children's day parade and Carnival Parade kicks off and runs until 5pm.
Which is the better day at Carnival?
It all depends on what you're looking for. If you're after a more chilled NHC experience, go for family day on Sunday. If you like the sound of a hard-partying parade, make sure to go on Carnival Monday. The festivities kick off with an opening ceremony on Sunday morning, with the parade starting at 10am. Monday's adult's day parade starts at 10.30am and afterparties run until after dark. Of course, there's nothing stopping you from maximising the Carnival fun and going both days.
What's in store for Notting Hill Carnival 2025?
As ever, the parade will be a celebration of Caribbean history and culture with warm-up and afterparties setting the mood over the August bank holiday weekend. Typically, the line-up is kept under wraps until the last minute, so just turn up and immerse yourself in a weekend of dancing, joy and community.
This year's forecast
Carnival goes ahead, come rain or shine. It's too soon to tell what the weather will be for this year's carni. We'll update this page when the time comes.

Their warning stems from pedestrians walking on the motorway or vehicles stopping to drop off or pick up passengers - which is illegal and highly dangerous. Offenders who are caught doing this may be fined, with those arriving by car instructed to use designated collection points which are clearly marked off the motorway. To this end, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys to avoid congestion, while also following dedicated event signs - rather than relying on sat nav systems which may lead them onto unsuitable roads. The full Notting Hill Carnival 2025 parade route with map

London's biggest and boldest street party is almost here: Notting Hill Carnival kicks off this weekend (August 23-25), marking its 57th year celebrating Caribbean culture, heritage and music. Planning on heading to Carni this weekend? Not sure where to go, who to watch and what soundsystems to head for? To help you navigate it all, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has released the official 2025 Carnival map – and we've pored over it to pull out the must-know tips, from the smartest parade viewing spots to the best food stalls. RECOMMENDED: 📍 Time Out's ultimate guide to Notting Hill Carnival 2025. 🎶 Notting Hill Carnival 2025: start times and full schedule. 🔎 The history of Notting Hill Carnival. Carnival parade route The Carnival parade snakes through more than three miles of west London streets with three official float entry points: both ends of Ladbroke Grove, Great Western Road, and North Pole Road. It all kicks off near Westbourne Park station on Great Western Road, before winding its way along Westbourne Park Road and Chepstow Road. From there the route sweeps onto Westbourne Grove, then powers all the way down Ladbroke Grove, the parade's longest and busiest stretch. The route also takes in Kensal Road and Golborne Road, before finally wrapping up on Elkstone Road. Map The best locations to watch the parade Unless you're lucky enough to have a mate with a balcony flat in Notting Hill (the ultimate Carnival flex), you'll need to stake out your spot on the street. Here are some of the best vantage points for maximum feather-and-sequin action: The Judges' Area The parade kicks off on Great Western Road, where the judges are stationed to rate the floats and bands. This year, for the first time, the judging zone is open to the public with ticketed grandstand seating available online. That means you can watch the parade in comfort, with a seat and access to toilets. Ladbroke Grove The parade's longest stretch along Ladbroke Grove is a classic viewing spot. Park yourself on the east side of the road, otherwise you risk being stranded from the rest of Carnival (and crucially, the food stalls and toilets) once the parade gets moving. Westbourne Grove The same advice stands for Westbourne Grove, the second longest stretch of the Carnival route. But make sure you're on the north side of the road! Music If music is your top priority, set up camp by one of the 36 soundsystems around Notting Hill, where they'll be blasting reggae, dancehall, house, garage, and samba on Sunday August 24 and Monday August 25, from midday until 7pm. Find a full guide to all those soundsystems here. Southern Row hosts a serious cluster of soundsystems from 4Play and Pineappletribe, to Aba Shanti-I and GT Flex Roadshow. Along Portobello Road there's a stretch of sound systems to check out from Gladdy Wax's Jamaican pop music to the afro soul beats of Arts-A-Light. A wander down Talbot Road will have you pass a huge range of sound systems such as Gaz's Rockin' Blues and Solution. Food With over 250 street vendors setting up shop at this year's event, you'll find everything from smoky Jamaican jerk chicken and sweet rum punch to Trinidadian roti and rich Guyanese pepper pot. Basically, arrive hungry. Powis Square will be packed with vendors serving up Carnival classics. You'll also find whole stretches of stalls lining Bosworth Road and a big chunk of Kensington Park Road. Also, Portobello Road transforms into a long line of sizzling grills and fryers, spilling over onto Oxford Gardens. Toilet locations at Notting Hill Carnival If you've ever been to Carnival, you'll know that the true test of endurance isn't the dancing, it's holding your need for the loo. With two million people packed into a few square miles, the queue for the throne is all part of the experience. This year, along with four drinking water stations, there'll be 600 toilets spread across 28 sites. Do yourself a favour and check the Carnival map ahead of time so you know exactly where to dash when duty calls. How to get to Notting Hill Carnival Westbourne Park tube (Circle and Hammersmith and City lines) is the most popular way to reach Notting Hill Carnival, operating as an exit-only station from 11am. The same exit-only system will also be in place at Notting Hill Gate (Central, Circle and District line), Royal Oak (Circle and Hammersmith and City line), and Holland Park (Central line). You can avoid the crowds and queues by travelling to Paddington or Shepherd's Bush stations and walking to the Carnival from there. And remember! If you're out partying in west London after Carni, there is no Night Tube or Overground on Sunday or Monday evening. Make sure you have an exit plan in mind.
