LeBron James' Lakers saga could very well end how it started
James and the Lakers have not discussed any trade or buyout scenarios and he is expected to remain a Laker by the time training camp begins in the fall, The Athletic reported on Wednesday.
Trade speculation has been running rampant since right before the start of NBA free agency, when the 40-year-old James exercised the option on the final year of his contract with the Lakers, which pays him $52.6 million for the 2025-26 season.

Upon making the decision, James' agent, Rich Paul, issued a statement to ESPN in which he hinted at a potential trade request if the Lakers' offseason moves didn't align with James' desire to compete for an NBA title next season as the clock ticks on his career — and while the franchise transitions to making Luka Doncic its centerpiece.
'LeBron wants to compete for a championship,' Paul told ESPN at the time. 'He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we've had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career.'
Paul then said four teams reached out regarding a potential trade for James.

James also made an appearance at the Cavaliers practice facility, something he downplayed, though ESPN's Brian Windhorst said James was 'poking the bear.'
When James was approached on Saturday by ESPN's Dave McMenamin to see if he wanted to join the network's summer league broadcast and clear up his Lakers future, James said, 'I ain't got nothing to talk about.'
James' decision came shortly after the Buss family agreed to sell the Lakers to businessman Mark Walter in a record-breaking $10 billion bombshell.

This could put a bit of a damper on things, given Pagliuca would be one of the first names for an expansion team in the area, yet the former Celtics owner now finds himself the new owner (pending league approval) of a team the WNBA appears determined to keep in Connecticut. "Nine additional cities also applied for WNBA teams and remain under active consideration. Those other cities remain under consideration based on the extensive work they did as part of the expansion process and currently have priority over Boston," added the league. This course of action may have actually put the city behind the proverbial eight ball, as the WNBA may be looking to avoid following in the footsteps of the NBA with the highly unpopular move of the Seattle SuperSonics to Oklahoma City in the aughts. Interestingly, the release tendered to Washburn also notes that a "prospective Celtics owner has also reached out to the league office and asked that Boston receive strong consideration for a WNBA franchise at the appropriate time." Does this mean the ownership group helmed by Bill Chisholm currently in the process of securing final NBA approval to buy the Boston-based NBA ball club is also the leading group to secure a WNBA team in the same city? Chet Holmgren meets Oklahoma legend Adrian Peterson
Enjoying his downtime, Chet Holmgren went on another side quest that involved a cross-sport interaction every Oklahoma sports fan loved. The calendar has flipped to August, which means the NBA is in its driest part of the year. Everybody around the league is on vacation for the next couple of months before the 2025-26 season starts. Holmgren traveled to the 2025 Panini VIP Party over the weekend. Panini America hosted the event. The company is known for selling sports trading cards, memorabilia and autographed merchandise. It includes about every collegiate and pro sports league you can imagine. At the event, athletes from across the globe attended. Holmgren took to social media to post some of the photos he had taken of players he grew up watching. One included Oklahoma and NFL legend Adrian Peterson. The future Hall-of-Famer is one of the greatest running backs ever. Peterson attended Oklahoma for three college seasons from 2004-06. He then spent nearly a decade with the Minnesota Vikings, where he carved out one of the greatest careers. He was a perennial Pro Bowl player and won the 2012 MVP award. Considering Holmgren grew up in Minnesota, it was a moment where the 23-year-old was likely starstruck. Both also have obvious ties to Oklahoma. In the seven-footer's case, he helped the Thunder win their first NBA championship this past June. Always fun to see the type of adventures NBA players go through when they have free time. So much of their lives is fixated on basketball. For Holmgren, his free time includes linking up with several other all-time athletes from various sports at a trading card company event.

Raiders lose Lonnie Johnson to broken fibula
Raiders safety Lonnie Johnson Jr. suffered a serious injury on Saturday. Johnson has a broken fibula and will get an MRI to determine whether he has further damage, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. The injury happened at the Raiders' mock game practice at Allegiant Stadium, which was conducted at a somewhat higher intensity than a typical training camp practice. Johnson and Maxx Crosby collided while attempting to tackle running back Raheem Mostert, and Johnson was in obvious immediate pain. Raiders coach Pete Carroll referred to Johnson's injury as "significant." Johnson signed with the Raiders at the start of free agency after playing last season with the Panthers. He was expected to make the roster to provide depth in the secondary and contribute on special teams.
