Alia Bhatt backs mother's Palestine post with a ‘Like'; Soni Razdan breaks silence; says staying silent is a crime

Veteran actress
Soni Razdan
has opened up about her deeply personal connection to the ongoing atrocities in Palestine, drawing from her own family's painful history.
In a heartfelt social media post, Soni revealed how her grandfather, a German citizen, risked his life during Hitler's regime by running an underground newspaper opposing Nazi rule.
'He suffered greatly and saw terrible things,' Soni wrote. Though eventually released due to legal support—with the condition that he would never return to Germany—his bravery left a lasting impression on the family.
Alia Bhatt
's reaction
The actress showed quiet support for her mother's strong statement by 'liking' the post. Alia has not made any additional remarks.
'It would have broken him'
Reflecting on the current situation in Palestine, Soni Razdan expressed how it disturbs her deeply, particularly because of her grandfather's past.
'The very people he fought so hard to save have turned into those that oppressed them,' she wrote, referring to what she views as the tragic irony of today's crisis. She made it clear that her post is not against an entire community, acknowledging that many Jews oppose the violence, just as many Germans once opposed Hitler.
. Her post completely read, "A recent reel featuring the Jewish Australian actress Miriam Margoyles has actually pushed me to write this post and at this point. She chillingly states that Hitler won. Because he made the Jews like him. That is the saddest thing I have read in a long time. Whether you agree or disagree…. It is a terrifying indictment. This is also actually a continuation of an earlier post about my mother and grandmother. Of course, my grandfather is everywhere in it. They don't make many like him anymore. "
She added, "But let us not despair, because there are those that speak out, and those that put their lives on the line to report. My heart goes out to everyone who does. More power to all of you. A world war was fought for what was right, and what was just. Many died, but many were saved. I am proud that my grandfather was on the right side of history. I do hope that the rest of the world will follow sooner rather than later."

Sydney Sweeney's denim ad got cancelled for Nazi propaganda? Now American Eagle just dropped the mic saying, 'it's just jeans, not genes'

Sydney Sweeney and American Eagle are deep in the fashion trenches this week, and it is all because of... jeans. Or rather, genes. The 27-year-old Euphoria actress starred in a denim ad campaign with the cheeky line, 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' and the internet immediately lost its collective mind. American Eagle vs the internet: The great jeans meltdown The pun, clearly riffing on both genetics and denim, was too much for some users to handle. Social media lit up with backlash, accusing the brand of toeing dangerously close to Nazi ideology due to the campaign's emphasis on Sweeney's blonde hair and blue eyes. One user even predicted the ad would end up 'in history books.' Talk about drama in the group chat. Critics cry fascism, others call it a stretch TikTok and Instagram users had some strong opinions, calling the ad 'Nazi propaganda weird' and 'fascist-coded.' The combination of a conventionally attractive white woman praising her 'great genes' stirred a cultural pot no brand wants to boil over. One person remarked that the visual message felt straight out of a fascist handbook. Another chimed in saying the ad felt 'like Nazi s–t,' throwing all chill out the window. Even celebrities jumped in. Lizzo posted a photoshopped version of herself in the same denim outfit, captioned, 'My jeans are black…' Meanwhile, Doja Cat made a TikTok mocking Sweeney's ad voiceover with an exaggerated accent. The sarcasm was thick, the eye-rolls even thicker. AE finally responds… kinda After days of being dragged, American Eagle issued a statement trying to pull the brakes on the internet spiral. They clarified the campaign was only about the jeans—her jeans, her story, her confidence. The brand reassured fans that their denim is for everyone and that 'great jeans look good on everyone.' However, AE seems to be slowly nudging Sydney out of the spotlight. Their latest promo featured other models, captioned: 'Denim on denim on denim… AE has great jeans.' Subtle? Maybe. Strategic? Absolutely. Controversy sells… apparently Despite the drama, AE's stock surged over 10% after the campaign launched. While the court of public opinion is still divided, the brand's bottom line says otherwise. Whether accidental or genius marketing, one thing is clear, this campaign has legs.

JD Vance mocks Sydney Sweeney backlash; American Eagle responds: ‘We'll continue to celebrate'

American Eagle has issued an official statement on the whole Sydney Sweeney 'Great Genes/Jeans' controversy after the ad campaign blew up on social media. The brand, however, doubled down, insisting it was always about 'jeans' and that it's Sweeney's life, her story. On the other hand, the row has now caught White House attention, with Vice President JD Vance taking a swipe at Democrats for having a meltdown over the matter. The statement came right after communications director Steven Cheung slammed the backlash as 'moronic,' calling it a case of 'cancel culture run amok.' Two days after a brand executive claimed their campaign was meant to support domestic violence prevention, with proceeds going to a nonprofit, the company issued a statement to Page Six. ''Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is, and always was, about the jeans,' they said in a press release, adding, 'Her jeans. Her story.' The popular clothing brand, which claims that around 70 per cent of its customers actually liked the ad, according to an in-house survey, added that it's not backing down. 'We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way,' the statement read, before signing off with: 'Great jeans look good on everyone.' Also read: Sydney Sweeney's ad isn't selling 'great jeans', but the body in them — and that's the problem Earlier, the Euphoria actor was hit with social media backlash after starring in an ad campaign and saying, 'I have great jeans… now you can too @americaneagle #AEPartner #AEJeans.' The slogan, meant to be a pun on the word 'genes', immediately blew up, with many slamming the brand for pushing a white supremacy narrative by calling features like blonde hair and blue eyes the standard. Some even went as far as calling it Nazi propaganda. 'When those traits are consistently uplifted as genetic excellence, we know where this leads,' one person said in a viral TikTok video. 'This just echoes the pseudoscientific language of racial superiority. All throughout history, those traits have been weaponised to uphold a racial hierarchy.' Also read: American Eagle breaks silence on Sydney Sweeney ad controversy, dismisses 'absurd response' as internet noise Vice President JD Vance on Friday weighed in on the Sydney Sweeney ad controversy, backing the brand and mocking Democrats for the outrage. Appearing on the conservative 'Ruthless' podcast, he said, 'My political advice to the Democrats is: continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive that they're a Nazi. That appears to be their actual strategy.' Even though no top Democrats have publicly reacted to the campaign, the Hillbilly Elegy author didn't hold back. 'I mean, it actually reveals something pretty interesting about the Dems. You've got a normal, all-American, beautiful girl doing a normal jeans ad, right?' he said. 'They're trying to sell jeans to kids in America—and somehow that's enough to send the other side into a meltdown. Did you guys learn nothing from the November 2024 election?' He also defended Sweeney for just being, in his words, 'beautiful,' and slammed the backlash as proof that 'so much of the Democrats is oriented around hostility to basic American life.' He added, 'You have a pretty girl doing a jeans ad, and they can't help but freak out. It reveals a lot more about them than it does us.'
