Ryan Reynolds' new £50m purchase and net worth after divorce from Hollywood actress
The Wrexham AFC co-owner has accumulated a vast fortune from a string of box office hits and a number of savvy investments
Ryan Reynolds with his wife Blake Lively
Ryan Reynolds has joined forces with another Hollywood actor to buy another sports teams, following the astonishing success of his takeover of Wrexham AFC with Rob McElhenney.
Alongside McElhenney, Reynolds has overseen the Welsh club's rise from non-league to the Championship in just four seasons, as they became the first side in history to win three consecutive promotions in the top five leagues of English football. The fairytale run has put Wrexham on the map across the world, with the club now one more promotion away from the heights of the Premier League.
However, Reynolds has now teamed up with his close friend and Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman in a completely new sporting venture, with the pair announcing that they now own an Australian sailing team named the BONDS Flying Roos.
The recently rebranded team competes in the SailGP international sailing competition, a competition which the likes of Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, actress Anne Hathaway, F1 star Sebastian Vettel and boxer Deontay Wilder have also invested in.
Reynolds and McElhenney already also hold stakes in Mexican football team Club Necaxa, Colombian side La Equidad and Formula One team Alpine, but this is Jackman's first foray into sports ownership.
"We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure," Reynolds and Jackman said in a statement. "Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country as well as being an avid fan of sailing.

"He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride. Apologies in advance to Australia."
While the amount that Reynolds and Jackman paid for the team has not been officially disclosed, it is estimated that they paid at least $50 million (£37 million) between them.
In light of the Wrexham co-owner's new venture, we take a look at how he made his huge fortune and the important people who have been alongside him on his way to the top.
Astonishing net worth
Reynolds is believed to boast a jaw-dropping net worth of an estimated $400 million (£295 million), having been named as one of Hollywood's highest earners.
The film star was ranked by Forbes as the second highest paid actor in the world in 2024, with the huge £79 million sum he pocketed putting him just behind Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in the fortune stakes.
Much of his success last year came from his hit Marvel film Deadpool & Wolverine, while family film IF and Emmy-winning documentary Welcome to Wrexham also contributed.
Reynolds has supplemented his Hollywood earnings with a series of savvy investment moves, acquiring up to a 20 per cent stake in American gin company Aviation Gin before selling in a massive $600 million (£443 million) deal in 2020.
He also sold a substantial stake in telecoms firm Mint Mobile to T-Mobile in 2023, with the huge $1.35 billion (£997 million) deal seeing him pocket over $300 million (£220 million) alone.
The Deadpool star has made a sizeable investment in Wrexham, with he and fellow co-owner McElhenney believed to have pumped more than £20 million of their own money into the club since taking over in 2020.
In 2023, an episode of Welcome to Wrexham revealed that they had lost around $12 million (£8.9 million) since taking over the club, with Reynolds responding by saying: "I'm going to throw up."
Life with famous wife after Hollywood divorce
Reynolds has been married to Gossip Girl star Blake Lively since 2012, having met the actress on the set of Green Lantern.
As their relationship blossomed, they soon became one of Hollywood's most beloved power couples and tied the knot at a private ceremony in South Carolina before going on to welcome four children - James, Inez, Betty and Olin - together.
Lively has often made the trip to Wrexham alongside her husband to cheer on the team at the Racecourse Ground, and paid a gushing tribute to the city after they secured promotion to the Championship in April.
"Back to back to back," she wrote in an Instagram post. "History was made. Congratulations to @wrexham_afc. I will never forget the love and elation in that town today. Thank you for sharing it with us always.
"And to these two men, @robmcelhenney & @vancityreynolds ... the love and respect that pours out of you each and together exponentially grows and creates more joy, more possibilities, more magic, more history," the actress added.
"This picture feels to me like a painting of all you do for so many, while being so present and appreciative of every moment."
Before he met Lively, Reynolds had been no stranger to high-profile romances, having previously been engaged and married to some of the most famous women in showbusiness.
In 2004, he got engaged to fellow Canadian Alanis Morissette, having met the singer at Drew Barrymore's birthday party two years earlier. They split up in 2007, with Morrissette citing the pressures of fame as a contributing factor, but they have remained close friends ever since.
Reynolds - who has also been linked to actresses Sandra Bullock, Melissa Joan Hart, and Charlize Theron - soon began dating actress Scarlett Johansson and they got married in 2008, tying the knot in a private ceremony in Vancouver.
However, they parted ways in 2010, with both Reynolds and Johansson admitting that the relationship fell apart due to their busy schedules and a lack of quality time spent together.
"We work and then go home," the actress later told Time Out. "I'd just stare at the wall for a few hours before I got to sleep."
Friendship with Rob McElhenney
While they have overseen one of the most remarkable changes in fortune in football history together, Reynolds and McElhenney weren't really friends when they moved to buy Wrexham, having only interacted with each other online on a couple of occasions.
Contrary to popular belief, it wasn't Reynolds' idea to take over a football club, with McElhenney instead leading the charge having worked with British comedy writer and football fan Humphrey Ker, who gave him the inspiration to invest in a team.
While he was not overly interested in football, McElhenney was intrigued by Ker's love of Liverpool FC and, as a result, the script writer recommended that he watch Netflix series Sunderland 'Til I Die during the coronavirus pandemic.
The series fascinated the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star and led him to decide that he wanted his own football club to make his own documentary about.
After the actor determined his budget, Ker then helped him pick out some suitable candidates - with Wrexham standing out to McElhenney due to the club's history, passionate fanbase and need for new investment in the wake of the pandemic.
He then reached out to Reynolds - who had previously messaged him about his favourite Always Sunny scene - to try and secure further money to invest and attach another big name to the club.
Reynolds was excited about the idea and did not want to be simply a sponsor, but a co-owner alongside McElhenney.
In November 2020, the duo bought the club for £2 million and the rest is history - with the two now very good friends despite not meeting in person until April 2021.
McElhenney has since told People that Reynolds is one of his closest friends, describing him as a "kind and generous soul, and somebody you can rely on."

Hailing the actor as a "truly inspiring person," he added: "Our families have grown incredibly close, and even though we live on opposite coasts, we feel like we're right next to each other."

Man Utd submit final Bryan Mbeumo transfer offer as Viktor Gyokeres drops hint
Manchester United are pushing to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, who they want to lead the line next season for Ruben Amorim alongside £62.5million arrival Matheus Cunha Manchester United are beginning to gather momentum in the summer transfer window - and are wasting no time in trying to get deals done. The club knows the importance of their business this off-season, after a dreadful debut campaign for Ruben Amorim, and are determined to get it right this time. United finished 15th in the Premier League and will not play in the Champions League next season after losing the Europa League final against Tottenham. They are recruiting from a position of weakness, which makes their decisions even more important, amid the financial difficulties spelled out by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The Red Devils have made a positive start to the window by agreeing a deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves. United will pay his full £62.5million release clause - and hope that his addition will encourage others to follow suit. In the meantime, they are negotiating the departures of some first-team players, knowing that offloading unwanted players will be just as important as recruiting new ones. Everyone in the squad is considered fair game, meaning there will be lots of incomings and outgoings this summer. Here are the latest pieces of news involving United. Final Mbeumo bid sumitted Manchester United have made one last attempt to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. An initial bid of £55m, comprised of £45m up front and £10m in add-ons, was rejected by the Bees, so United have upped their offer. They have now offered £55m plus £5m in add-ons for the Cameroon international, who banged in 20 Premier League goals last season. The offer appears to match Brentford's stated £60m valuation for Mbeumo. It would appear the final stumbling block in the move, given that the 25-year-old forward is keen to move to Old Trafford and has already agreed personal terms of around £200,000-a-week over a five-year contract with an option for an extra year. Gyokeres drops transfer hint Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with a move to Manchester United, due to his relationship with his old Sporting boss Amorim, and he has now ruled out on summer transfer. When asked about moving back to Sweden, the 27-year-old striker told Swedish Vogue: 'After living in a warm country, it would be difficult." Gyokeres is understood to be available for £60m from Sporting this summer, but Arsenal are considered to be front-runners, because they can offer Champions League football. However, the Gunners are still considering RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, so Gyokeres' move to north London is far from certain. Hojlund's future on hold Inter Milan are waiting to get their new manager in place before deciding on a potential move for Rasmus Hojlund. Inter boss Simone Inzaghi left the Italian giants to join Al-Hilal after their defeat in the Champions League final and his replacement isn't through the door yet. Cristian Chivu is poised to leave Parma to take over from Inzaghi and he will be given a say over a potential move for Hojlund. The Danish international has a good reputation in Serie A following his spell at Atalanta and could be offered a way out of Old Trafford. Inter will need new attackers, with Joaquin Correa and Marko Arnautovic set to depart. And Hojlund could fit the bill for Chivu, although there are suggestions he could prefer Parma star Ange-Yoan Bonny instead.

England T20 captain Harry Brook: I'm already preparing for 2026 World Cup
Friday's 21-run win over the West Indies in Durham was Brook's first outing as skipper in the format but he knows time is short to get his feet under the table. England have just 14 more games scheduled before the next global tournament in India and Sri Lanka in February, meaning the time is now when it comes to making plans. Dip. Grip. Past the edge 😮💨 Back in the team 🦁Straight in the wickets 👏 Liam Dawson | #ENGvWI — England Cricket (@englandcricket) June 6, 2025 That meant lining up with just two seamers for the first ever time in home conditions, with 12 overs of spin giving a hint at the structure England are likely to lean on in the sub-continent. While Brook's predecessor Jos Buttler set things up with a dominant knock of 96, Liam Dawson walked away with the player-of-the-match award in his first international appearance in nearly three years. The 35-year-old Hampshire stalwart claimed career-best figures of four for 20, while there were also wickets for Adil Rashid and Jacob Bethell. 'We don't want to look too far ahead but we've got to trial some things like this,' said Brook. 'The next World Cup is going to be in Sri Lanka and India. We're not completely set on this structure for the team but it's worth a go and it worked this time. 'I just think that having two very good spinners – frontline spinners – makes a massive difference. 'As a batter, when you're facing two experienced spin bowlers, you have to decide which end you're going to attack. 'These two (Rashid and Dawson) have been playing the game for so long, they know T20 cricket, they know the grounds and they've played against so many of these boys, that having them both in the side will help us going forward.' Dawson, who has been overlooked consistently for a rotating cast of spinners with inferior records on the county circuit, was praised for an 'awesome' comeback performance that saw him get the best of Johnson Charles, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase and Rovman Powell. 'He bowled beautifully. He's got so many skills. He's been playing the game for pushing on 20 years and he's learned a lot of things along the way,' said Brook. The West Indies were frustrated to be missing one of their own left-arm spinners on a helpful pitch for the slower bowlers. Akeal Hosein has yet to make it to English soil after delays related a change in UK visa requirements for Trinidad and Tobago. Cricket West Indies said 'attempts to expedite the visa process' had been unsuccessful but a spokesperson confirmed on Friday that the 32-year-old could arrive ahead of Tuesday's series finale in Southampton. One of our greatest white-ball players ever 🙌 Match Highlights: | @JosButtler — England Cricket (@englandcricket) June 6, 2025 All-rounder Jason Holder said: 'He was missed, he's one of our frontline players. It's an unfortunate situation. 'We can't control that so we can only control what's in front of us. We've got players here who are willing and able to do a job for the West Indies. 'We had a team that was good enough to beat England but we fell a little short, particularly with the bat.'

The LAX/Metro Transit Center is opening today—here's what you need to know
L.A. has never been exactly renowned for its public transit, but Metro is working overtime to change that—specifically in time for next year's FIFA World Cup, the 2027 Super Bowl and, of course, the 2028 Olympics. One huge step in the right direction? Starting today, June 6, access to the Los Angeles International Airport —one of the busiest airports in the country—will become more streamlined, thanks to the LAX/Metro Transit Center, the ambitious new station Angelenos have long been asking for. In the words of L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, today marks the 'beginning of a new era in our city.' And to celebrate the big opening, rides across the entire Metro system—rail lines, buses, Metro Bike Share and rideshare service Metro Micro—are free from Friday through Sunday. The LAX/Metro Transit Center officially opened to mariachi music and remarks from city leaders including Mayor Bass, Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts, Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins and Metro Board Chair Janice Hahn, who joked that the nine most terrifying words in the English language are 'Hey, can you give me a ride to LAX?' Here's hoping the new station means fielding fewer of those dreaded requests from your friends. LAX/Metro Transit Center Station rail and bus connections The new station, located at 9225 Aviation Boulevard, closes the final gap in the K Line, which will now run directly from Expo/Crenshaw to Redondo Beach—the airport-adjacent center fills a gap in that line that used to require you to take a bus to continue south. And it's the new terminus of the C line, which starts in Norwalk (it also connects the C and K lines—an added benefit). If you live along the C or K lines, the station is a godsend for airport visits. But if you don't live in, say, Inglewood or Downey, will this benefit you? Well, as you can see in the map below, these lines also intersect with other lines, meaning that with just one transfer, you can find yourself on a train bound for the airport. The A line (Azusa to Long Beach) allows you to transfer to the C line, and the E line, which reaches all the way from Santa Monica through Downtown and into East L.A., meets up with the K line, meaning those riders can also map a car-free route to LAX. (Though from Santa Monica and Downtown, there are buses that can probably get you to the station more directly and quickly.) In addition to the two light rail lines stopping at the station, the LAX/Metro Transit Center will also serve 14 bus lines—including six Metro bus lines and partner lines including the Big Blue Bus, Culver CityBus, Torrance Transit, GTrans and Beach Cities—with 16 bays for bus transfers. The station will also offer a Metro Micro bay. What about the Automated People Mover? Now, once you've done all the mental navigation and actual navigation of getting to the LAX/Metro Transit Center with your luggage in tow, unfortunately you're not done yet. That's when you'll need to board a free Los Angeles World Airports shuttle to LAX, which will run every 10 minutes and deposit you at your terminal. That's not a bad solution, but it's a placeholder until the long-awaited Automated People Mover is ready—which is projected to finally open in early 2026 (though you can see it doing some test runs through the station now). When that glorious day arrives, the APM will allow travelers to step onto elevated, entirely electric train cars and bypass traffic on their way to the terminals. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (@metrolosangeles) And now for the station itself. While the idea has been decades in the making, actual construction on the nearly $900-million project began in 2021, and it's the eighth completed project in Metro's ambitious Twenty-Eight by '28 initiative—which is prioritizing projects that will provide more connectivity to major sports venues for the city's upcoming 'car-free' Olympics. The entire site of the station is approximately 500,000 square feet (the size of almost nine football fields). It boasts 11 elevators, 12 escalators and nine staircases where you can access the bus bays on the ground level or ascend and then descend to the concourse, where you'll find the light rail trains. The MTC will be able to accommodate up to 5,000 passengers an hour. While there aren't dining and shopping options like you'll find in some cities' major transit stations, there are public restrooms, a customer service center and automated storage for 50 bikes. The visual centerpiece is an origami-like spiral sculpture, 'The Distance of the Sun,' by L.A. native artist Glenn Kaino that hangs above the escalators. Elsewhere in the station, digital displays depict 18 poignant portraits of Metro riders created by local artists. There's still more work to be done, but the LAX/Metro Transit Center is an impressive achievement that the city and its residents can be proud of. Any step toward making the airport experience a bit easier and connecting the disparate parts of L.A. is a huge win.
