Heatwave leads to widespread water, power shortages in Iran
In Tehran province, thermometers climbed as high as 45 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Mohammad Asgari, a senior expert at the Iranian Meteorological Organization, said that the average domestic temperature has been approximately 1.2 degrees Celsius above normal since the start of summer.
Asgari warned that eight provinces will continue to experience abnormal heat in the coming days, the Mehr news agency reported.
The official IRNA news agency reported that President Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted Tehran's acute water crisis during a meeting with the Ministry of Interior, warning of severe shortages and critically low reserves.
The Iranian president criticized current resource management practices as "ineffective" and called for greater public engagement and coordination to address the emergency.
To conserve energy and water, Tehran province would observe a public holiday on Wednesday.
In Semnan Province, from Tuesday to Wednesday, all administrative offices, executive agencies, and banks will operate on reduced hours, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., to cut consumption and cope with forecasted temperature rises of two to four degrees Celsius, according to Mehr news agency.
Since early summer, the capital city of Tehran has endured scheduled rolling power and water outages as part of nationwide conservation measures.

"Residents are urged to monitor the weather updates frequently, avoid unnecessary outings as much as possible and steer clear of risky areas, such as riverside trails, slopes and low-lying roads. Visitors at beaches and campgrounds should exercise caution and evacuate in advance, if needed," a local government official said. Last month, South Korea was hit by heavy rains and landslides, which took 23 lives and left five others unaccounted for nationwide. As the rain moves in, heat wave advisories are expected to be gradually lifted or eased. Malaysia Heatwave Alert: 5 states hit 37°C today
PETALING JAYA – Several areas in five states remain under Level 1 heatwave status (Caution) as maximum temperatures recorded reach between 35 to 37 degrees Celsius today. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the scorching hot conditions affect inland and southern areas of Kedah, Selama (Perak), and the districts of Temerloh, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang. 'In Sabah, the western areas and Kudat recorded high temperatures, while in Sarawak, it involves the Limbang area. This situation is expected to continue for at least several more days depending on current weather patterns,' it said. The public is advised to drink plenty of plain water, reduce outdoor activities especially during midday and early afternoon.

10 areas in Malaysia under hot weather alert Level 1, says MetMalaysia
SHAH ALAM: The Malaysia Meteorology Department (MetMalaysia) announced that 10 areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak are now under hot weather status Level 1 (alert). These are areas where the maximum daily temperature reached between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days. The agency, in a statement posted on Facebook on Saturday (Aug 1), listed five areas on the peninsula, including Baling (covering Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu districts) in Kedah, Selama in Perak, and two districts in Pahang, namely Maran and Rompin. "Four areas in Sabah are also under alert status, namely Pitas, Kota Marudu, Beaufort and Tenom. "Meanwhile, one area in Sarawak, namely Limbang, also recorded the same continuous hot temperature," it said.
