Video: Whirlwind Kicks Up Dust, Heavy Rain Continues To Hit Sharjah, Cloud Cover Over Dubai And Fujairah
Video of a whirlwind kicking up dust in the internal part of Sharjah went viral on social media on Saturday evening. Rain continues to fall across Sharjah during the Eid Al Adha weekend, with forecasts indicating that more showers are expected through Monday. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued yellow and orange alerts due to the formation of convective clouds in the eastern regions, signalling the potential for heavier rainfall. Cloud cover has increased significantly over parts of the UAE, with expectations of continued precipitation until 8 PM today. Currently, the temperature in Sharjah hovers around 34°C, while Dubai registers slightly cooler at 33°C. The humidity levels are notably high, around 90%, resulting in a 'feels-like' temperature of approximately 41°C, making for an uncomfortable atmosphere. Looking ahead to Sunday, June 8, 2025, conditions are expected to be fair to partly cloudy with some potential for convective cloud formation. Rainfall is likely to occur primarily in the eastern and northern regions, alongside a gradual increase in temperatures throughout the day. As night falls and into Monday morning, humidity levels will rise, particularly in coastal and inland areas, creating the possibility of fog or mist forming. Light to moderate southeasterly to north-easterly winds will prevail, occasionally freshening to speeds between 10–25 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 40 km/h in some areas. The sea conditions are projected to be slightly calm, both in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea. 14 minutes ago 10 hours ago 11 hours ago

Eid Al Adha Tragedy: Indian Expat In Dubai Dies While Scuba Diving With Family On Jumeirah Beach
Tragedy struck an Indian expat family enjoying the Eid Al Adha holidays in Dubai as one of the family members allegedly died during a fun scuba diving session on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Issac Paul Olakkengil, a 29-year-old civil engineer. He reportedly suffered a heart attack after he could not breathe properly, according to his family. Pyarilos Davis, who is among the relatives helping the bereaved family with paper works, told Gulf News that Issac and his wife Reshma, along with Issac's younger brother Ivin, had gone to Jumeirah Beach for the scuba diving session. He said the incident took place when the trio were getting trained in a designated training area during the session. 'It seems they were getting trained for scuba diving, and apparently, he [Issac] couldn't breathe properly and moved away from the pack,' said Pyarilos.'So, everyone panicked and was impacted under water. I was told Reshma was rescued to the shore first, followed by the other two.' Issac was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved. Meanwhile, he said, Ivin also collapsed on reaching the hospital and is currently under observation. 'He is out of danger,' said Pyarilos. He said the family is cooperating with the police, who have seized the equipment used in the scuba diving session as part of their investigation into the case. 'We are working with the authorities to repatriate his mortal remains after we receive the necessary legal documents,' said Pyarilos. Ivin had not been informed about his only brother's passing till Saturday evening, he said. 'All of them are engineers. While Issac and Reshma are in Dubai, Ivin is based in Abu Dhabi. Ivin's friends just told me they are concerned about breaking this heart-wrenching news to him, as the brothers shared a strong bond,' said Pyarilos. Gulf News has reached out to Dubai Police for a comment.

The latest on Aaron Ekblad after taking puck to hand in Panthers' Game 2 Cup Final win
Take a sigh of relief, Florida Panthers fans. Aaron Ekblad appears to be OK. Panthers coach Paul Maurice on Saturday said the defenseman was fine after blocking a Darnell Nurse shot with his hand in the second overtime of Florida's eventual 5-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Friday. The blocked shot occurred 4:02 into the second period, with Ekblad's left hand taking the brunt of Nurse's wrist shot from the point. Ekblad skated to the bench in pain and was checked on by a trainer. He managed to play two more shifts in the game before Brad Marchand eventually ended it with his goal 8:05 into the second overtime to tie the best-of-7 series at 1-1. Ekblad has been one of the top point-producing defensemen this Stanley Cup playoffs. He's tied for third in the league among blueliners in points (11) and assists (eight) while being tied for fourth in goals (three) while averaging just shy of 24 minutes of ice time per game. When Ekblad is on the ice at five-on-five this postseason, the Panthers are controlling 56.98 percent of shot attempts — the highest rate among Florida defensemen — while outshooting opponents 145-125 and outscoring them 14-12. Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final is at 8 p.m. Monday from Sunrise's Amerant Bank Arena.
