Well Go USA is planning to release 'The Ugly' in U.S. theaters on Sept. 26 following the Toronto bow.
''The Ugly' is a gripping mystery thriller that explores the dark undercurrents of family and long-buried secrets,' said Doris Pfardrescher, president/CEO of Well Go USA. 'With riveting performances from Park and Kwon and a masterfully layered script from Yeon Sang-ho, the film is a powerful testament to the emotional and narrative depth of global cinema,' Pfardrescher continued.
Penned by Yeon and based on his 2018 graphic novel 'Face,' the movie tells the story of Im Yeong-gyu (Kwon), who is a master artisan who has been hand-carving beautiful, engraved seals despite having been born blind. One day, his son Dong-hwan (Park) receives a call from the police, informing them that Young-hee, their wife and mother, who disappeared 40 years ago, has been found as skeletal remains. Upon hearing that the mother whose face he's never known may have been murdered, Dong-hwan begins investigating her death with Su-jin, a producer who has been filming a documentary about Yeong-gyu. Through the memories of those who worked with his mother at a garment factory 40 years ago, Dong-hwan comes face-to-face with the long-hidden truth.
Besides writing and directing, Yeon also produced the project alongside Wowpoint, the company behind Netflix's 'The Bequeathed' and 'Parasyte: The Grey.'''The Ugly' is a particularly special film, as it is director Yeon Sang-ho's first theatrical release in five years,' said Eugene Kim, Head of Content at Plus M Entertainment which represents international sales on the movie.

He went on to direct 'The Fake' which wonbest animated feature at the Sitges Film Festival in 2013. He broke through in a major way with 'Train to Busan' in 2016, and directed Peninsula in 2020. Both titles premiered at Cannes.
The helmer made his TV debut with series 'Hellbound' which played at Toronto in 2021 and had a second season launch in 2024. He also directed 'Parasyte: The Grey' in 2024.

‘By the Stream' Review: A Korean Drama of Life, Art and Soju
The lauded South Korean auteur Hong Sangsoo is among the most prolific figures in world cinema: He directed the lightly magical romance 'Right Now, Wrong Then' 10 years ago and since then has made more than a dozen films. Yet in his own country he is a subject of some scandal, due to the revelation, shortly after the release of 'Right Now,' that he was having an affair with the film's star, Kim Min-hee. By American standards, the controversy is downright quaint, but it reportedly cost Ms. Kim endorsement deals and her management contract, and for almost all of the past decade she has appeared only in films directed by Mr. Hong, with whom she had her first child earlier this year. I offer this brief history of a scandal not to catch up readers on the Korean tabloids, but because it unmistakably shadows and shapes Mr. Hong's new film, 'By the Stream.' One could, simplistically, call it a cancel-culture drama, though it lacks the fiery temper or aggrieved bitterness that might be expected of such a work. Instead, it's a graceful, unassuming portrait of relationships old and new as a handful of characters consider their pasts and look wonderingly toward their futures, soju flowing freely all the while.

The Buccaneers Season 3 - News, Cast, Updates, More
Now that the second season of The Buccaneers has ended and so friggin' much has happened, what happens next? Can we get The Buccaneers season 3 ASAP, please? And, honestly, a cross-over with The Gilded Age while we're at it? The show, which stars Kristine Froseth as Nan St. George, one of half a dozen American debutantes ("North American Scum" according to the LCD Soundsystem cover that plays over the credits) trying to make it in England's high society, has so many cliffhangers and loose threads that I'm not above begging for more. As of the season 2 finale, there's no word yet from Apple about a renewal or a cancellation. So we wait! Hopefully we won't have to wait too long. Last time, the show was renewed for season 2 just under a week after the season 1 finale. Spoilers for the season 2 finale ahead. The finale set up so many potential stories it's hard to keep track of them all. For one thing, Nan is pregnant and fully runs away with the Duke's heir just as he has officially announced his intention to abdicate his duties. That's one of many plot bombs that the series dropped at the end of the season. Where's she going? She just ran off into the night. Where, and how is she going to hide with this baby? Theo publicly dumped his title and Nan so that he could be with Lizzy, but I have my doubts that that relationship will last. For one thing, it came out of nowhere. For another, in Edith Wharton's book Lizzy does end up with Hector Robinson. Sure, he's kind of a villain in the show after exposing Theo's affair to the press, but if The Buccaneers is renewed for a season 3 he could be redeemed. Think about how many crazy twists and turns there were in season 2. Anything could happen. There's also Kit, Theo's "dangerous" secret half-brother OTW to take the title. Let's not forget about Guy and Paloma, either. Their wedding may have been impulsive, but Paloma clearly wants to stick around a bit longer. I'm also kind of obsessed with the plan that Conchita and Mabel came up with to sneakily help LGBTQ+ and other outcasts navigate society. I need to see that play out in season 3! The first season was released in the late fall/early winter of 2023. This season, of course, dropped in summer 2025. Since it's unlikely that the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes in 2023 delayed the second season, it's probably fair to expect a similar timeline if and when the show gets a third season. The best educated guess is that The Buccaneers season 3 comes out in fall/winter 2027. Let's hope they actually get to make that happen!

Apple Cinemas and IMAX Expand Partnership with Agreement for Five New and Upgraded IMAX with Laser Locations Across U.S.
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apple Cinemas and IMAX ® Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) today announced an agreement for five IMAX with Laser systems in the United States — doubling the current IMAX footprint in Apple Cinemas locations. Under the agreement, IMAX will return to Philadelphia for the first time since 2020 in Apple Cinemas forthcoming Riverview Plaza – a renovation to the city's highest-grossing multiplex before it closed in 2020 that will reopen as the largest cinema in the Center City downtown area. The new IMAX location in Philadelphia is scheduled to open in 2026. The agreement will also include an additional new IMAX system in a location to be identified, as well as IMAX with Laser upgrades to three existing IMAX locations with Apple Cinemas in Maine, New Hampshire and California. The San Francisco, CA location—a favorite among local moviegoers and the site of an existing IMAX location that closed in 2023—reopened under Apple Cinemas' ownership earlier this year. All three IMAX locations in the agreement are set for upgrade before the end of 2027. 'Our expanded partnership with IMAX marks a bold leap forward in delivering next generation moviegoing,' said Siva Shan, Co-Founder of Apple Cinemas. 'White Plains set a new standard for immersive cinema, and with our marquee launch at Riverview Plaza in Philadelphia, we're raising it even higher. This isn't just growth — it's a reimagining of how audiences connect with movies in iconic cities across the country.' 'IMAX's strong performance at the box office continues to drive demand and create opportunity with exhibitors in North America – particularly strong, well-run regional theater owners like Apple Cinemas,' said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. 'A number of our locations in Suburban Philadelphia are among our best performing in the country, so we're excited to return to the city itself in a prime location with a great partner in Apple Cinemas.' Apple Cinemas White Plains in New York, which underwent an IMAX with Laser upgrade last year, is already delivering next-level cinematic experiences and has been met with strong audience response. This announcement is the latest in a banner year for IMAX, which has already signed deals for 130 new or upgraded systems so far this year, on par with the 130 signed in all of 2024. This momentum is evident in the reinvigorated North American market, where IMAX has signed agreements with nine new Domestic exhibitor partners in the last two years. The strong results this year have been powered by a knockout slate of films, with major Filmed for IMAX titles 'Tron: Ares' and 'Mortal Kombat 2,' and high-profile titles like 'Zootopia 2,' 'Wicked: For Good' and 'Avatar: Fire and Ash,' still to come. The agreement doubles IMAX's footprint with Apple Cinemas this year – at the start of 2025, the duo operated three locations across the US, and, inclusive of this deal, will soon operate six locations across six different states. The new and upgraded Apple Cinemas locations will be powered by IMAX with Laser, IMAX's most advanced theater technology. Designed from the ground up for the most immersive experience, IMAX with Laser offers crystal-clear, lifelike images and precision audio, powered by a ground-breaking 4K laser projection system, a new optical engine, and custom-designed lenses. This proprietary technology delivers brighter images with higher resolution, deeper contrast, and the widest range of colors exclusively for IMAX systems.
