Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward has been arrested twice in two months and is now facing a civil lawsuit from the woman he allegedly assaulted in June, according to multiple reports Thursday. Ward, 34, was arrested on June 12 on a felony domestic violence charge. The suit, filed Wednesday in Harris County (Texas) District Court by the plaintiff, alleges that she was "violently assaulted multiple times, both sexually and physically" by Ward, whom she also accuses of drug use, emotional abuse, financial manipulation and death threats, according to ESPN's report. She is reportedly seeking $20 million in damages. The suit notes that Ward and the woman have been together for years and share a 3-year-old child, who allegedly has been present while Ward has allegedly assaulted the woman, according to ABC13. The woman reportedly alleges that early on the morning of June 12, Ward slapped, choked and threatened her and forced her to perform oral sex. The ESPN report states that as soon as the woman got a chance to remove herself and the child from the home, she took the child and ran into the street. The woman was naked at the time, and that's when she called 911, per the report. Reporting from the Houston Chronicle that day detailed that Ward was arrested around 5:30 a.m. after deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to the situation. Ward was released that afternoon on $30,000 bond. Since Ward's initial arrest, he has violated his bond agreement twice, according to the suit: first when he contacted the woman and then again when he tested positive for alcohol, per ESPN's report. The second violation resulted in another arrest of Ward earlier this month. "Our main focus right now is the grand jury, that is set for first week of September, to try to convince the grand jury that Jimmie should not be indicted," Ward's attorney, Stephen Jackson, told ESPN. "We're going to take this one step at a time. We're going to focus on the criminal allegations to try to get those dismissed, and then we'll focus on the civil suit." The plaintiff's attorney is Tony Buzbee, whose firm recently represented a woman who filed a since-settled lawsuit that accused Pro Football Hall of Famer and media personality Shannon Sharpe of rape. Notably, Buzbee also represented multiple women in sexual misconduct and assault cases against former Texans and current Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, who was ultimately suspended 11 games by the NFL in 2022 and fined $5 million after facing accusations from more than 24 massage therapists. While the Texans declined comment to ESPN, the franchise's general manager, Nick Caserio, said the team would "kind of let the legal process take care of itself" when he was asked about the matter on the first day of training camp. Ward is on Houston's physically unable to perform list due to a sprained foot he's still recovering from. The injury required season-ending surgery last season. Ward, voted a Texans captain in 2023 and 2024, has not practiced during camp this year and has not been activated.

According to French newspaper Le Parisien, the 46-year-old internet personality — whose real name was Raphaël Graven — appeared to be lying lifeless on a livestream on Monday, Aug. 18, before authorities found him dead inside a room rented for streaming in Contes, France, a town near Nice. In videos reviewed by CNN and the New York Times, the 46-year-old internet personality was regularly subjected to physically and verbally abusive behavior on past livestreams. On Aug. 19, Clara Chappaz, a junior minister in France for artificial intelligence, announced on X that French authorities had opened an investigation into Graven's death, adding that she had contacted management of Kick regarding the incident. PEOPLE has reached out to Kick for comment. The investigation follows another probe launched by French authorities in December into the actions of streamers, spurred by a report by French investigative outlet Mediapart that alleged that Kick had allowed creators to broadcast violent acts for months. As a part of that investigation, in January, French authorities arrested and detained two men who had participated in streams with Graven, the New York Times reported, citing French authorities. The outlet also reported that Graven and another person who appeared to be the subject of violence and humiliation had been interviewed by police at the time. 'All platforms have the legal responsibility to remove clearly illegal content of which they are aware,' wrote Chappaz on X on Aug. 20. In a statement to CNN on Aug. 20, Kick said that it was cooperating with authorities and that those involved in Graven's final broadcast had been banned 'pending the ongoing investigation.' On Thursday, Aug. 21, Le Parisen reported that, following an autopsy, Graven's death was 'not traumatic in origin and was not linked to the intervention of a third party' — and instead was likely 'medical and/or toxicological.' Per the outlet, further analyses had been ordered to clarify the cause of death. Le Parisen also reported that Nice's prosecutor's office said in a press release that Graven had cardiovascular issues and had been receiving medical treatment for his thyroid gland at the time of his death. Per Le Parisen, Nice prosecutors have conducted several interviews with people present at the time of Graven's death and have also seized video equipment in order to construct a timeline of the streamer's final hours. Man arrested for WNBA sex-toy throwing at Liberty game, the 3rd arrest in string of disturbances
NEW YORK (AP) — An Ohio man has been arrested for the throwing of a sex toy at a WNBA game in New York, police said Thursday. It's the latest development in a string of disturbances where similar toys were tossed at WNBA games across the country, resulting in at least three arrests. Charles Burgess, 32, from Dayton, Ohio, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly throwing an object at the Dallas Wings vs. New York Liberty game on Aug. 5, New York police told The Associated Press. The object hit a 12-year-old girl, and Burgess was charged with two counts of assault. It wasn't immediately clear whether Burgess had an attorney. Similar disturbances happened during games in Atlanta on July 29 and Aug. 1, Los Angeles and Phoenix on Aug. 5, and Chicago on Aug. 1 and Aug. 7. Some of the sex toys reached the court and caused game delays, while others landed in the crowds, such as in Phoenix where an 18-year-old was arrested. The man in that case told police it was a prank that had been trending on social media and he bought the toy a day earlier to take to the game. He was tackled at the arena by a volunteer who had allegedly witnessed him throwing it and began following him as he tried to leave the arena. Police have said that man was arrested on suspicion of assault, disorderly conduct and publicly displaying explicit sexual material. A man was also arrested in Georgia for the two toy-throwings at Atlanta Dream games, according to a police report. He is charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespassing, public indecency and indecent exposure. All four charges are misdemeanors in the state of Georgia, meaning that if he is convicted, the punishment for each can be a fine of up to $1,000 or jail time of up to 12 months. A misdemeanor for public indecency and indecent exposure may also require registration on the state's sex offender list. The report said the Georgia man told police 'this was supposed to be a joke and the joke (was) supposed to go viral.' The sex toy that landed on the court in Los Angeles nearly hit Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. League officials have said any person throwing objects onto the court will be ejected from the arena and face a minimum one-year ban from attending games.
