Pune: Many property owners who submitted
PT3 forms
last year are still waiting for their 40% tax discount. PMC officials have attributed the delay to issues like incomplete documentation and pending administrative formalities.Kothrud resident Manasi Kulkarni said people were made to run from pillar to post to fill the forms last year.
"But the discount has not been reflected. Now, we have been left hanging in balance about our property tax payment," she said.N N Deshpande, a resident of Bavdhan, said the administration should make the system of submission and cross-verification easy. "An online system should be in place to file the application. That way, it could be tracked online. We came to know about the issues with the tax discount after a year when the new bills were published. Such a delay is frustrating," he said.Samir Paranjape of Sinhagad Road said the administration should also set up a system to reach out to people and update them about the tax status. "There is no update from PMC on our form submission. We keep checking if the discount has been applied or not. A simple SMS and email giving detailed information about the actual tax and discount must be forwarded to those who are seeking the discount," he said."The citizens can approach the local ward offices or property tax head office and check why the tax discount is not reflected. If all the due process is followed, the changes should be applied in the bills," said a senior official of PMC's property tax department.Activists claimed that the administration was unable to provide clarity about the changes in the tax amount. "The property tax bills are creating confusion. The owners should get a clear idea about the exact bills and how much discount has been offered. Despite repeated reminders, the administration has not made the changes," Vivek Velankar of Sajag Nagrik Manch, a citizens' group, said. Attack on ward councillor: HC stays arrest of Patna mayor, son

1 2 Patna: Patna high court has stayed the arrest of city mayor Sita Sahu and her son Shishir Kumar, wanted for allegedly assaulting ward councillor Jeet Kumar during a general body meeting of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on July 11. A single bench of Justice Shailendra Singh, while hearing a criminal writ application filed jointly by Sahu and her son, passed the order on Aug 14, however, the same was made available on Monday. The HC also ordered the state director general of police to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the case registered at Gandhi Maidan police station. Besides, the court directed the police to furnish CCTV camera footage of the alleged incidents of assault and ruckus that took place during the general body meeting of the PMC, seeking a reply within a week. The petitioners' counsel, Ansul, argued that the case against his clients is a "classic example of abuse of police machinery to wreck political vengeances". "The accusations against Sita and Shishir comprised minor offences mostly bailable in nature, except for one offence (of wrongful restraint), which carries punishment of three years' imprisonment. The Supreme Court, almost a decade ago, had ruled that in matters of crime containing minor punishments (less than seven years), police are duty bound to give a notice of appearance to an accused instead of arresting them. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo But in the case of Sita, the police are hell bent on handcuffing her and Shishir despite the alleged crimes involving minor punishments," he said. Appreciating the submissions of Ansul, Justice Singh said that this case seems to be a misuse of police machinery and directed Patna police to file its reply within a week. This matter will be heard again on Aug 22. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Khadakwasla circle may get 10 TMC water from Mulshi

Pune: Technical studies and surveys to bring around 10 TMC water from Mulshi dam to the Khadakwasla circle will be expedited according to a decision taken during a meeting held under the chairmanship of state water resources minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil in Mumbai on Wednesday. The proposal is crucial since it would help meet the increasing water demand of the city and rural areas. Daund MLA Rahul Kul, who attended the meeting, said the discussion ended on a positive note. "Nearly 7 TMC to 11 TMC water can be lifted from Mulshi in the initial phase. The minister directed officials to initiate all necessary steps to give the plan a shot in the arm," he said. "Water from Mulshi dam will have to be utilised for Pune district in the coming years. Water consumption from the four dams in Khadakwasla circle has increased in areas under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), affecting farming activities and the populace in rural regions. The situation may become critical in the future. Making arrangements to bring in water from Mulshi must not be delayed. However, the said proposal will undergo various technical and administrative procedures, besides clearance from the state water resources regulatory authority and the state govt," Kul added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like A Teaspoon Before Bed Burns Body Fat - Fit Into Your Clothes Again! gofitlifeguide Click Here Undo PMC officials said they have already approached the state govt. A state-appointed expert committee has recommended that Mulshi water can be brought to the city and that the proposal should not be delayed further. In the last week of July, civic officials had put forth the same demand during a meeting held by Vikhe Patil at PMC headquarters to discuss water-related issues. The minister had told reporters that the state govt was positive towards granting 10 TMC water from Mulshi to the city and rural areas. He also mentioned that PMC must take efforts to reduce water leakage and wastage. Sources from the irrigation department said teams are already working on the technical aspects of the proposal. "It is a major challenge to bring water from Mulshi to Khadakwasla circle. We are conducting surveys and studies to make it possible. All surveys and reports will be completed on priority. Mulshi water is being used for power generation, at present," they added. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
