Alleged arson, stolen vehicle suspect arrested in Duarte
Los Angeles County deputies were preparing to engage the suspect in pursuit at around 10:30 p.m. near Shrode Avenue and Mountain Avenue when the suspect pulled over.
They were initially called to the area after receiving reports of a stolen car in the area. During their investigation, deputies also say that they learned they were suspected in some sort of arson. They did not provide details on that alleged incident.
Deputies said that the driver and two passengers were taken into custody.
They did not provide any further information.

Wilmington appoints new police chief following nationwide search
The city of Wilmington has appointed Ryan Zuidema as its new police chief following a months-long nationwide search, following a unanimous vote by the Wilmington City Council on Tuesday, Aug. 19. Zuidema has worked with the Lynchburg, Virginia, police department since 1997 and was appointed Lynchburg's police chief in 2018. 'Chief Zuidema has demonstrated the highest standards of leadership, accountability, and service throughout his nearly three decades in law enforcement,' said Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo in a news release. 'His proven ability to connect with the community, support his officers, and implement innovative strategies will serve Wilmington well. We are confident he will build on the Wilmington Police Department's strong foundation, fostering trust, enhancing public safety, and serving our residents with unwavering dedication.' Zuidema will officially begin his role with the Wilmington Police Department on Sept. 22. Wilmington began its search for a new police chief earlier this year, after former Police Chief Donny Williams announced his retirement on Jan. 10. Williams served with the Wilmington Police Department for 29 years before his five-year tenure as chief. He was the city's first Black police chief, the first to have lived in Wilmington public housing and the first former cadet to ascend to the position. Williams retired in June, with former Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous serving as interim chief during the final weeks of the nationwide search. 'I am honored to be chosen as Wilmington's next Chief of Police,' said Zuidema in the release. 'Wilmington is a vibrant and diverse city with a deep sense of community pride. I look forward to working alongside the talented men and women of the Wilmington Police Department to strengthen public safety, build trust through transparency, and partner with residents, businesses, and community organizations to address the challenges and opportunities ahead.' The open police chief position was officially posted on April 4, with consideration given to both internal and external candidates. City council hired the Police Executive Research Forum to conduct the national search. In addition to helping governments find their next police chiefs, the organization facilitates research on critical issues in policing. Lehighton man pleads guilty in Brook Street arson
SCRANTON — A Lehighton man pleaded guilty to setting fire to the Brook Street home of a man arrested for running over and killing his employer in Schuylkill County in 2023. Barton James MacConnell, 39, 1536 Long Run Road, pleaded guilty last week to one felony count of criminal mischief on Aug. 14. On Aug. 2, 2023, Michael Albert struck Mark T. Boyle with a dump truck in the driveway of Boyle's welding and industrial sanding business in West Penn Township in Schuylkill County. Early the next day, on Aug. 3, Scranton firefighters responded to 436 Brook St., Scranton, Albert's unoccupied home. MacDonnell was subsequently charged with arson. MacConnell's charging documents noted an angry crowd gathered around the police vehicle holding Albert shortly after Boyle was struck, with members of the group banging on the windows. After police removed Albert from the scene, an employee of Boyle's known as 'Bart' pointed to Albert's truck and said he would burn it down if it was not removed, too. A dog trained to investigate arson detected accelerants at the burned Brook Street home. In June, Albert pleaded guilty in Schuylkill County Court to misdemeanor charges of involuntary manslaughter and theft of services. New video shows man with knife stabbing people inside Walmart
Newly released surveillance video captures suspect Bradford Gille stabbing people inside a Traverse City, Michigan Walmart on July 26th. Eleven people were injured in the attack, and all are expected to survive. Gille has been charged with one count of terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder and pleaded not guilty on all charges, according to the Detroit Free Press.
