YSRCP approaches HC, files quash petition in Jagan Mohan Reddy's vehicle's hit-and-run case

India Gazette8 hours ago

Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], June 25 (ANI): The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has filed a quash petition in the High Court in connection with the hit-and-run case involving party chief and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's vehicle, which allegedly ran over a party supporter, resulting in his death.
The victim, identified as Singayya, was fatally struck by Jagan's bulletproof vehicle during a recent visit to Rentapalla village in Guntur district. The incident has attracted significant public attention and sparked controversy.
On Tuesday evening, police seized the vehicle involved in the incident as part of the ongoing investigation. The party, however, maintains that the case is politically motivated and has sought legal recourse to have the charges quashed.
Meanwhile, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has upped the ante against the NDA coalition government and has called for a five-week programme called 'Recalling Chandrababu's Manifesto' during which the Party would reach out to the people with election promises of the coalition and highlight its failure in keeping them up.
Addressing the Party extensive meeting attended by MPs, MLAs, MLCs constituency and regional coordinators here on Wednesday, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy gave a graphic detail of how to go about in highlighting the failures of the government by showing the manifesto, explaining to people what is due from the government and how they got cheated.
Launching the programme with the release of QR code, he said, the aim of the programme is to show how much damage Chandrababu Naidu has caused to each family during his one year in office and how much damage is in the offing. 'This should be contrasted with the benefits the people would have received if they were to be in government. This line of thought should be taken to every household up to the village level,' Jagan Mohan Reddy said.
The QR code will bring out Chandrababu's manifesto and how much each family should have got and this should be done from district, constituency to village level in five phases, he said adding that the various frauds committed by him would also be seen along with the dues data.
'We should bring awareness among the people about how they are being cheated and how blatantly Chandrababu has been telling that all promises were implemented, and if anyone questions, he is being called names,' the former CM said.
Chandrababu during elections has promised to give more than what YSRCP is giving and through his cadre has given a bond explaining how much would each person under what scheme and said this is a bond which says, 'I, Chandrababu Naidu, solemnly pledge that I will uphold the trust placed in me by the people of our state', the bond said and was signed by both Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan.
'The amount under various schemes will be given from June 24, was the promise and it is time for people to redeem the bond and we should explain in detail in the five-week mass contact programme. Besides the promises, the government owes fee reimbursement, hostel and mess charges, Aarogyasri dues, which adversely affected the poorer sections,' he said.
'A year has passed, and from now on, we have to fight and be available to the people. The draconian rule with its repressive methods should be fought tooth and nail,' Jagan Reddy added. (ANI)

Cong chief takes jibe at Tharoor over PM praise

New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday took a swipe at party colleague Shashi Tharoor over the latter's recent praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that his party believed in 'country first' but it was 'Modi first and country later' for 'some people'. Kharge's remarks came days after Tharoor in a newspaper article on Monday said PM Modi's energy, dynamism and willingness to engage remained a 'prime asset' for India on the global stage but deserved greater backing. (ANI) Kharge's remarks came days after Tharoor in a newspaper article on Monday said PM Modi's energy, dynamism and willingness to engage remained a 'prime asset' for India on the global stage but deserved greater backing. 'I can't read English well. His (Tharoor's) language is very good, that's why we have made him a Congress Working Committee (party's apex body) member,' the Congress chief told reporters, when asked about Tharoor's article. Over the last few months, Tharoor has repeatedly defied party lines to back the PM Modi-led government on key policy issues. He has often drawn criticism from his party and jibes aimed at him by Congress leaders for his stand. In his article earlier this week, Tharoor said the diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor — India's military action on terror infrastructure in Pakistan in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives — was a moment of national resolve and effective communication. The Congress distanced itself from Tharoor's remarks, dubbing them as the party MP's personal opinion. However, Kharge's snipe at Tharoor, who had contested against the former in the Congress presidential polls in 2022, indicate the party will not tolerate such deviations from its senior lawmaker, who is also a former Union minister, CWC member and a chairman of the external affairs committee of Parliament. Kharge further recalled the Opposition's united support to the government and the armed forces in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. 'We (the Congress) said 'country first, party later'. Some people say 'Modi first, country later'. What can we do?' he added. Hours after Kharge's remarks, Tharoor put out a cryptic post on X. He posted a picture of a bird with the caption: 'Don't ask permission to fly. The wings are yours. And the sky belongs to no one.'

‘Kolkata airport's boundary should be sealed immediately': Suvendu Adhikari flags ‘security risk'

The leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari called for the immediate sealing of the boundary at Kolkata airport. West Bengal BJP leader and LOP Suvendu Adhikari expressed concerns over Kolkata airport's security and called for sealing off the boundaries.(HT Photo) Speaking to ANI, Adhikari said that the current situation at the airport poses a major security risk. 'What is happening at Kolkata Airport is a matter of great concern from a security perspective. Prayers are being performed on the ground. The boundary of Kolkata Airport is not being sealed,' he said. He expressed worry over the movement of outsiders in and around the airport premises. "People from outside are coming and going, and there is also connectivity to China and Bangladesh from here. We have demanded that the boundary (of Kolkata Airport) be sealed," Adhikari said. Adhikari also highlighted that two newly developed runways have still not been made operational despite being completed with central government funding. "The two new runways for which the central government allocated a budget, and whose work has also been completed, have not been made operational. Only a single runway is functional," he said. He attributed the delay in operating the new runway to an issue involving a religious structure. "The reason given is the relocation of the Mosque to the secondary runway. This cannot go on," Adhikari remarked. Calling for urgent action, he said, "The boundary wall should be closed immediately. The boundary of such a sensitive international airport should be sealed immediately." Meanwhile, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, West Bengal's Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari criticised the state government for not participating in the nationwide celebration. He alleged that while both NDA and non-NDA ruled states observed the day, West Bengal deliberately skipped it. Speaking to ANI, Adhikari said, "NDA and non-NDA state governments are celebrating Yoga Day today, except West Bengal, because West Bengal follows Bangladesh. It does not follow Delhi. More than 180 countries are celebrating International Yoga Day today. As Indians, we are proud of this." The sharp remarks came as International Yoga Day was celebrated across the country, promoting the physical and mental health benefits of yoga. (ANI)

Adding ‘secular', ‘socialist' to Constitution was a blow to India's soul: Yogi

LUCKNOW Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said inclusion of the words 'secular' and 'socialist' in the Preamble to the Constitution during the Emergency was 'a brutal assault on the soul of India'. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath during the event, marking 50 years since the imposition of the Emergency, at Lok Bhawan in Lucknow on Wednesday. (ANI Photo) He said the Congress should apologise to Dalits, the marginalised, and the people of India for suppressing voices that BR Ambedkar had empowered through the Constitution. 'The Congress should apologise to Dalits, underprivileged people, and all citizens for the Emergency. The party had silenced the voices of those whom Babasaheb Ambedkar had empowered through his writings,' he said after inaugurating a seminar titled 'The Dark Chapter of Indian Democracy' at Lok Bhavan, marking 50 years since the declaration of Emergency. 'The sin committed by Congress and then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975, to stay in power will never be forgotten. One family turned the dreams of freedom fighters into tools for their narrow political ambitions,' the CM added. Adityanath said neither the Samajwadi Party nor the RJD had made any statement or social media post on 'Constitution Murder Day.' Senior leaders of these parties once opposed Congress for strangling the Constitution and protested against Congress' dictatorship. Today, those same leaders are bowing before the Congress for their interests,' he alleged. 'Dynastic parties like Congress, SP, and RJD have no right to talk about the Constitution because whenever they got a chance, they suppressed democracy,' he added. Adityanath said the Congress didn't waste a moment in dismantling the Constitution Ambedkar drafted after immense personal sacrifice. 'On June 25, 1975, Congress took over the legislature, executive, and judiciary. Media was muzzled through censorship, and more than one lakh pro-democracy activists were jailed,' he added. Recalling a slogan by revolutionaries — 'Tera Vaibhav Amar Rahe Maa, hum din char rahen na rahen' (May your glory live forever, Mother India, even if we live only a few days), he said the Congress shattered this resolve with its slogan, 'Meri satta bani rahe, chahe loktantra rahe na rahe' (let my power last, even if democracy doesn't)'. The CM also pointed out that keeping Babasaheb Ambedkar away from Parliament in 1952, declaring the Emergency in 1975, the 1984 massacre of Sikhs and Rahul Gandhi tearing up an ordinance in 2013 were all 'anti-democratic acts'. Earlier, Yogi Adityanath inaugurated an exhibition titled, 'Tragedy of the Emergency'.' During the programme, he honoured 26 democracy fighters.
