All government and private schools in Gautam Budh Nagar will remain closed on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in view of the Guru Dronacharya Mela in Dankaur, Greater Noida.The district administration has issued orders to suspend classes for the day, citing heavy traffic and large gatherings expected during the celebrations. The move aims to ensure smooth management of the event and the safety of students.According to the district administration, the schools will remain shut for the day due to the organisation of Guru Dronacharya Mela in Dankaur. Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the event, leading to the closure of multiple roads in and around the mela site. The authorities have taken this step to prevent any traffic-related disruptions and to maintain student safety.Parents confirmed that they received notifications about the school closure through official school WhatsApp groups and SMS messages. The information was shared in advance to ensure families were informed and could make necessary arrangements.Apart from the closure on August 21, 2025, students in several states will also receive holidays on account of Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam. Schools will remain closed in many regions on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, for Onam, followed by a holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.These closures are part of the regional observances and have been notified by respective state governments. Ganpati Special Trains 2025: To ensure smooth and comfortable travel for devotees and passengers during Ganesh Chaturthi 2025, Indian Railways (IR) has decided to operate over 380 special train trips. In 2023, a total of 305 Ganpati Special train trips were operated, while in 2024 the number increased to 358. The ticket booking for Ganpati Special trains this year has commenced. Central Railway will run the highest number of 296 services, addressing the heavy festive travel demand in Maharashtra and the Konkan region. Onam cruise programme to promote Kadamakkudy tourism
Kochi: As a follow-up to island tourism campaign to explore tourism potential of Kadamakkudy, an Onam cruise programme will be launched exclusively for Vypeen region. The service will begin on Sept 1 and continue until Sept 10. K N Unnikrishnan, MLA, informed that the cruise service will start from Bolgatty at 10am. The five-hour pleasure trip, including meals, is priced at Rs 550 per person. "The cruise will promote the unique and scenic tourism of Vypeen region, especially Kadamakkudy. It will nurture entertainment, curiosity and knowledge. The cruise will offer a visual and mental feast with natural beauty, lifestyle, agricultural practices and historical monuments in the area," said the MLA. There are opportunities to disembark at various islands and enjoy cultural programmes there. The cruise will feature songs, dances and music. Activities like small boat rides, kayaking and pedal cycling will also be part of the cruise. This journey will showcase pokkali fields, Chinese fishing nets, shrimp farms, small enterprises and people working there to the outside world. Konkan Rly intensifies ticket checks ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi
Margao: With the Ganesh Chaturthi approaching and expected passenger traffic surge, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has announced plans to intensify ticket-checking operations across its entire route to ensure smooth travel for authorised passengers. Konkan Railway has been conducting anti-ticketless travel campaigns since the beginning of the current financial year. A KRCL spokesperson said that from April 2025 to date, 3,765 ticket-checking drives have been conducted, resulting in the detection of 40,600 unauthorised travellers, who have been fined Rs 2.4 crore in penalties. 'We appeal to all passengers to kindly travel with valid tickets to avoid any inconvenience,' the spokesperson said. Passengers are advised to purchase tickets before boarding and carry proper identification to avoid penalties and travel disruptions.
