Heavy overnight rain triggers mudslide in Shimla, throws traffic out of gear
Two vehicles were buried in the debris on the road near IGMC, while a mudslide was reported at Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialty (AIMSS) Hospital, Chamiyana, in Shimla.
There was no loss of life but the two vehicles were damaged in the incident, the officials said.
School and office-goers headed for Sanjauli faced inconvenience due to the blockade near the IGMC Hospital. The authorities have pressed JCB machines into service to clear the road.

Bridge on Sutlej swept away in Kinnaur
Meanwhile, a sudden flash flood hit Hojis Lungpa Nala in Kinnaur on Wednesday evening. The site was an active road construction zone under the CPWD towards Gangthang Bralam.
The flood was triggered by a cloudburst in the higher reaches of the Rishi Dogri Valley. The strong flow of water swept away a bridge across the Sutlej River and left one person injured, the Indian Army said.
The army deployed its new generation equipment, the logistics drone high altitude (LDHA) system, to ferry essential items, including eatables, coconut water across the floodwaters to help sustain the stranded individuals through the night.

Army personnel also guided civilians to safer locations on higher ground and evacuated the injured person to the Regional Hospital in Reckong Peo.
Kullu district collector Torul S Ravish said two cloudbursts hit Kullu district on Wednesday, leading to a sudden rise in water levels and prompting swift evacuations in affected areas. 'Cloudbursts occurred at two locations in Kullu. The first was near Bagi Bridge above Bhimdwari, where a sudden rise in water level was reported. The administration swiftly evacuated all downstream areas, preventing any loss of life.'
The second incident took place near Pathar, causing a sharp increase in the water level of Tirthan Valley.

More than 350 flights were delayed at Mumbai airport on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions, HT reported. Sources at Mumbai airport told HT that 15 arriving aircraft were forced to go around between midnight and 6 am, with two flights diverted to Nagpur and Ahmedabad. The airline confirmed that all passengers and crew members were unharmed. IndiGo informed that the tail line of the aircraft hit the runway at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, following which the aircraft circled back and made a safe landing in the second attempt. "On August 16, 2025, an IndiGo Airbus A321 aircraft tail touched the runway while executing a low-altitude go-around due to unfavourable weather conditions in Mumbai. Thereafter, the aircraft carried out another approach and landed safely," the statement reads. The airline stated that, as per protocol, the aircraft will undergo a detailed inspection, necessary repairs if required, and obtain regulatory clearances before returning to service. "Following the standard protocol, the aircraft will go through necessary checks/ repairs and regulatory clearance before resuming operations," IndiGo said. The airline also reiterated that safety is its top priority and efforts are being made to minimise any disruption to operations. Severe waterlogging in Mumbai, rail tracks inundated as heavy rain continues
Severe waterlogging was witnessed in many parts of Mumbai on Saturday morning as the city continued to witness heavy rain, with a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department. Visuals showed severe waterlogging in Navi Mumbai and adjoining areas. (HT Photo) Apart from streets and localities, railway tracks were also filled with water in Dadar and Bandra stations after incessant rain continued from last night. Intense rainfall was recorded across the western and eastern suburbs in Mumbai between 1 am and 4 am. In the western suburbs, Marol Fire Station recorded the highest rainfall at 207 mm, followed closely by Nariyalwadi School in Santacruz with 202 mm. In the eastern suburbs, Vikhroli and Ghatkopar experienced significant downpours, with Tagore Nagar Municipal School recording 196 mm and the nearby Building Proposal Office at 195 mm of rainfall. Visuals showed severe waterlogging in Navi Mumbai and adjoining areas. People in Vashi were seen wading through knee-deep water with umbrellas. Popular places in the city, including Kings Circle and Gandhi Market, were also seen submerged in water. Water entered the Subways across the city, including in the Andheri Subway and the Milan Subway, after rainfall, making People were seen dragging vehicles through water around the SCLR Bridge on Saturday. Due to the low-pressure areas being formed in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall is likely to persist over Maharashtra for the next few days. For today, IMD has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall at many places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Maharashtra. The temperature today is expected to remain around 29 degrees Celsius during the day and 24 degrees Celsius at night. Intense rain spells have continued in the city since Friday, after which initially an orange alert was issued, which was later changed to a red alert. Seeing the heavy rain forecast, BMC has advised citizens to avoid going outdoors unless required.

Army saves civilians from flash flood in daring night op
1 2 3 Chandigarh: In a dramatic night rescue on Wednesday, Army saved four civilians when a sudden flash flood struck Hojis Lungpa Nala around 7pm. Triggered by a cloudburst in the higher reaches of Rishi Dogri Valley, the deluge engulfed a bridge across the Sutlej and injured one person. The site was a road construction zone towards Gangthang Bralam. On receiving an SOS from the Kinnaur SP, Army mobilised a rescue team that braved fast currents and unstable terrain in complete darkness to reach the location and find four men stranded on the far bank with floodwaters raging all around. The Army deployed its new generation equipment, including the 'Logistics Drone High Altitude (LDHA)' system to ferry essential items, including food and coconut water across the floodwaters to help sustain the stranded individuals through the night. Working with precision under challenging conditions, the soldiers illuminated the area to aid night rescue operations. They also guided the stranded civilians to higher and safer ground and evacuated the injured person to Regional Hospital, Reckong Peo. An Army spokesperson said the rescued civilians are at an Army Camp at Pooh and will be taken home once water levels subside. "This operation stands as a testament to the Army's readiness, innovation and commitment to safeguarding lives — even in the most hostile environment and extreme weather conditions," the spokesperson added.
