Most of Gaza ceasefire proposal agreed by Hamas previously agreed by Israel: Qatar - War on Gaza
Hamas gave a "very positive response, and it truly was almost identical to what the Israeli side had previously agreed to", Qatar foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari told reporters, without elaborating on what changes had been made to the accepted proposal.
Qatar, with Egypt and the United States, has been engaged in mediation for a ceasefire throughout the 22-month Israeli genocidal war in Gaza, but apart from two short-lived truces, the talks have failed to stop the fighting, as Tel Aviv kept adding new demands that sabotaged the deal.
Hopes for a deal were rekindled on Monday after Hamas said it had accepted a new proposal following a push by Egyptian and Qatari mediators in Cairo.
The previous round of mediation for a deal in Doha broke down in July, with Israel rejecting Hamas amendments, which sought to guarantee an end to the war on the Palestinian Strip.
"We cannot make any claims that a breakthrough has been made. But we do believe it is a positive point," Ansari added.
"We are at a decisive humanitarian moment. If we don't reach a deal now, we will face a humanitarian catastrophe that will make all those that preceded it pale in comparison," the spokesman added.
Negotiations in recent months have focused on a framework for an initial 60-day truce and the staggered release of Israelis held in Gaza, which was first proposed by US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
Ansari confirmed the current proposal included the two-month truce as well as provisions to allow for the entry of aid.
Under the terms, 10 Israelis held alive and the remains of 18 out of 36 confirmed dead would be released in exchange for an unspecified number of Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons.
Israeli forces would also reposition closer to Gaza's border to allow humanitarian aid to enter, while negotiations would begin immediately on a broader agreement.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty stressed in a phone call with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff on Wednesday, capitalising on Hamas' acceptance of the Gaza ceasefire proposal to bring an end to Israel's brutal and unjust two-year war on Gaza. According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty and Witkoff addressed the latest regional developments, particularly the grave situation in the Gaza Strip. During the call, Abdelatty emphasised the need, following Hamas' approval of the 60-day truce, to negotiate an end to the war and a just settlement of the Palestinian cause. He stressed that Israel must accept the proposal and implement it to resolve the crisis and protect the lives of captives, and to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and ensure sufficient aid reaches Gaza, which has suffered too long from Israel's deliberate starvation policy. On Monday, Hamas approved Egypt and Qatar's new 60-day ceasefire proposal after intensive negotiations in Cairo. The proposal has been subsequently submitted to Israel to determine its response. Based on an initiative by Witkoff, the ceasefire proposal envisions a partial truce and a phased release of Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Since October 2023, Egypt, Qatar, and the US have led mediation efforts to end Israel's genocidal war on Gaza. This war has killed more than 62,000 Palestinians and left over 153,000 wounded, most of them women and children. Iran's nuclear programme Abdelatty reiterated to Witkoff Egypt's call for de-escalation in the Middle East and its rejection of any military solutions in dealing with Iran's nuclear programme. Furthermore, he noted Cairo's ongoing efforts to bring all relevant parties back to the negotiating table to enhance regional and international security and stability. According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty also told Witkoff that joint Egypt-US efforts must continue to achieve peace, security, and stability in the Middle East. He pointed out US President Donald Trump's vision for establishing regional and global peace and ending decades of prolonged conflict between Palestinians and Israelis. Russia Warns of Escalating Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza
Nada Mustafa Russian Foreign Minister (FM) Sergey Lavrov said that his country is deeply concerned about the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as the humanitarian crisis that followed the October 7 attacks.
