China lauds India's swift response in rescuing crew from cargo ship fire off Kerala coast
Azhikkal (Kerala) [India], June 10 (ANI): Following an onboard explosion and fire aboard MV Wan Hai 503 off the coast of Kerala, China, expressed gratitude to Indian authorities for their swift and professional rescue efforts.
Spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Indian, Yu Jing, in a post on X said, 'On June 9, MV Wan Hai 503 encountered an onboard explosion and fire 44 nautical miles off Azhikkal, Kerala. Of the total 22 crew members on board, 14 are Chinese, including 6 from Taiwan. Our gratitude goes to the Indian Navy @indiannavy and the Mumbai Coast Guard for their prompt and professional rescue. We wish further search operations successful and the injured crew members a speedy recovery.'

The Chinese Embassy's statement came after an explosion under deck was reported aboard MV Wan Hai 503 while it was en route from Colombo to Nhava Sheva. Four crew members were reported missing and five injured in the incident. Indian Coast Guard ships have since been deployed for firefighting and rescue operations.
The vessel was carrying containerised cargo and had a total of 22 crew members onboard. CGDO on task diverted for assessment.
Indian Coast Guard units were immediately diverted for assessment and assistance. ICGS Rajdoot off New Mangalore, ICGS Arnvesh off Kochi, and ICGS Sachet off Agatti have been diverted for assistance.

‘Khaan Quest': Indian Army contingent arrives in Mongolia for multinational military exercise

New Delhi, Jun 11 (PTI) An Indian Army contingent comprising 40 personnel, mainly troops from a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment, reached Mongolia on Wednesday to take part in a multinational military exercise. The Indian Army contingent is being represented mainly by troops from a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment along with personnel from other services, the ministry said. 'One woman officer and two women soldiers will also form part of the contingent,' it added. The previous edition of this exercise was conducted in Mongolia from July 27 to August 9, 2024. 'The exercise first started as a bilateral event between the US and Mongolian armed forces in 2003. Subsequently, from 2006 onwards, the exercise graduated to a multinational peacekeeping exercise with current year being the 22nd iteration,' the statement said. The aim of the exercise is to also 'prepare the Indian armed forces for peacekeeping missions while operating in a multinational environment, thereby increasing interoperability and military readiness in peace support operations under Chapter VII of United Nations Charter', it said. The exercise will focus on high degree of physical fitness, joint planning and joint tactical drills. Tactical drills to be practised during the exercise will include establishment of static and mobile check points, cordon and search operations, patrolling, evacuation of civilians from hostile area, counter improvised explosive device drills, combat first aid and casualty evacuation, the ministry said. 'Exercise 'Khaan Quest' will enable the participating countries to share their best practices in tactics, techniques and procedures for conduct of joint operations. The exercise will facilitate developing inter-operability, bonhomie and camaraderie between soldiers of the participating countries,' it said. Meanwhile, in a post on X, the Indian Air Force shared photos and videos of a bilateral military exercise that ended on June 10. 'Exercise Tiger Claw 2025, the first ever independent Special Forces exercise, between IAF and USAF, concluded at the Garud Regimental Training Center, yesterday. Conducted at various locations in North India, from 26 May to 10 Jun 25, the exercise objectives included expanding partnership, mutual exchange of best practices in Special Operations, and joint training between the two Air Forces to develop interoperability,' it said. Movement of MV Wan Hai restricted
The movement of MV Wan Hai-503, the ship that caught fire and was drifting in the Arabian Sea unmanned for the last two days, is being contained by Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship Samudra Prahari after connecting a towline with the ship, said a statement issued by the ICG here on Wednesday night. In a daring operation under challenging situations and weather, ICG ship deployed a three-member team on an ICG Chetak helicopter, comprising of ICG diver and salvors from MERC onto the decks of MV Wan Hai-503. The team then successfully secured the towing hawser on MV Wan Hai-503, defying all the odds. Though flames have significantly subsided, with residual smoke visible from the distressed vessel, fire remains active in the inner decks and near fuel tanks. Constant air sorties are being undertaken by ICG Dornier aircraft for sea-air coordination and real-time assessment. No new explosions were reported since early morning on Tuesday. The tilt of the vessel remains unchanged at 10-15 degrees to the port (left) side. ICG Ships Arnvesh, Rajdoot, and Kasturba Gandhi are undertaking an extended search for the four missing crew of the distressed vessel, said the statement.
